Year 6 WW2 Guided Reading Activities

(12)
KS2 Year 6 World War 2 Guided Reading Activities Three texts linked to WW2 with comprehension questions. I have also included the sheet I used to encourage the children to make up their own questions, considering what type of question they’re asking. Anne Frank Background Blitz Report The Lion and the Unicorn(scanned book with questions on most pages) I used these in whole class reading sessions where children took it in turns to read the text to the class before we discussed the questions. They were then given time to record their own answers.

Homework spelling and handwriting sheets

(12)
12 weeks worth of graduated HFW spellings and handwriting patterns. Each document has four pages for differentiated homework. I used these for a year 2/3 class who covered P6 - L4. I have used a font that I paid for at home, you may need to change it to your school font.

Medium Term plan - Mini Science Investigations.

(6)
After discovering my new class had poor investigation skills, I set up an investigation to do every week. You'll need to do your own risk assessment (especially for the slime - I got in a science PGCE student to help!) but mostly is silly fun with science to get them excited and making predictions. There's also an assessment sheet which I gave to all the adult helpers to mark when any child used any of the skills. (I would recommend a ratio of 1:5 for the gathering of evidence and supporting the overall process)

A plan for making shadow puppets with a powerpoint to project onto a screen, also link to where you can find a video (which I just used the audio from) to give you sound if you don't want to write your own script. Plus 2 evaluation sheets, one for those with more precice handwriting and another for the more sprawling style!
KS2 SAT Buster Reading CGP 'walkthroughs'

KS2 SAT Buster Reading CGP 'walkthroughs'

(2)
KS2 SAT Buster Reading CGP ‘walkthroughs’ PowerPoints to accompany the CGP Reading workbook for the following texts Non-Fiction: Dare to Dance; 1950’s Drive In; Inside the World of Jam Fiction: Underground City; The Old Photograph; A Visit to Baba Yaga Poetry: Lost Dog; The Gentlemen in Grey; Kite Flight I used these to support my less able and on track children to prepare for their reading SATs. These power point breaks down the texts into paragraphs, challenges them to develop their vocabulary and dictionary skills and goes through each question one at a time, highlighting where the answer is taken from. Best used in a whole class setting where every child has their own SAT buster book to write their answers in. Each of these PowerPoints was used for a guided reading session of 30 minutes and took two or three days to complete.

Guided Reading Questions

Guided Reading Questions

(1)
This contains an A4 page with 3 or 4 questions for every chapter of 'The Secret Mountain&' By Enid Blyton, except for the last four chapters that have blank pages for the children to use their own ideas and prove they have developed an understanding of different ways of showing you&';ve read a text! The book I used is a dual edition 'Secrets: The Secret Mountain & The Secret of Kilimooin&'. If you use a different version of the book you may need to change the page numbers in the headings. Good for more able younger readers. All the questions are linked to AFs.

Rising Stars Year 6 Reading Comprehension 'walk-through' FICTION

(1)
Only appropriate to use if your school uses the Rising Stars comprehension books for year 6. I have scanned in each of the texts and questions to guide the children through the comprehension. Each text has a thesaurus challenge which supports children’s vocabulary aquisition. All PowerPoints have the answers on the last slide so the work can be marked. I anticipate each Powerpoint will take approximately half an hour to run through.

5 little ducks

(1)
A sheet to cut and laminate - the top two rows have five little ducks and the numbers below them, then you have a row of ducks to cut out individually and stick on top of the first lot so you can see how many ducks you have left when you remove one as you sing :-)
