I used this lesson as a practical way of teaching the theory of how deoxygenated blood becomes oxygenated. I had previously taught a lesson on this so the students had a prior understanding of the heart & blood vessles, and used this as a consolidation lesson / to address misconceptions.
The starter recaps previous learning to label the features of the heart. The rest of the lesson students work in small groups following the journey that blood takes around the body. I did this in the sports hall as there was more space available!
Worksheet included to give some writing tasks to support the lesson. Students really enjoyed the lesson!
Structure strips to help writing answers to long answer questions. Designed for the Edexcel GCSE PE New spec 2016.
Question
Evaluate why the redistribution of blood flow is necessary during a hockey match. (9 marks)
Explain how the skeletal and muscular systems work together to bring about the kicking action shown in Figure 1 as the striking leg moves from Position A to Position B. (9 marks)
Structure strips also available for component 2.
I created this lesson using last years assessment to help my students understand how to answer questions & get them used to understanding what questions are asking for.
The lesson looks at 3 questions from component 1 - on muscle actions, heart rate and antagonistic muscle pairs.
Includes printable slides to use as support in lesson. The powerpoint breaks down the question & includes model answers & mark schemes to self assess!
I have also created a similar lesson for component 2!
I created this worksheet to use as a home learning task for my GCSE PE group after teaching the 1.1 & 1.2 from Component 1. (Skeletal system & muscular system),
KS3 fitness 10 lesson scheme of work.
Incudes:
Fitness testing lessons
Circuit, interval, kettlebell training
Calories lesson
Boxercise lesson
Team challenge
Lessons include resource cards to support lesson, learning outcomes, questioning ideas, differentiated activities. Alternative ideas given depending on equipment / space available.
All the lessons are ones I use when teaching fitness at KS3. The space I would use to teach these lessons would be in a ‘old school’ style gym, with rowing machines, battle ropes, dumbells, kettlebells, skipping ropes, hurdles, step up boxes, medicine balls. Some lessons have alternative suggestions if you do not have access to all equipment.
I have found these lessons really useful to incorporate lots of GCSE content in them which helps give students prior knowledge of some topics they will cover in later years.
Created for the Edexcel GCSE PE (New Spec).
Powerpoint includes 3 questions from component 2 - health & performance. (3-6 mark questions).
The focus of the lesson is to help students gain a better understanding of how to interpret questions & know what to include in their answer.
Includes a table of common command words and a brief definition.
Demonstrates how to break down a question before attempting to answer it.
2/3 questions provide model answers which students can assess (WWW/EBI) before answering the question for themselves.
Final question gives students the mark scheme after they have completed it - hopefully hteu will have a better idea of how to gain full marks by this point!
Visual Powerpoint timers included - encouraging students to work on the questions for a realistic amount of time.
