A very simple and quick task designed to help students sort through types of sources and data. Use near the start of any research methods topic. Useful for pre and post-16

This is a basic revision sheet for Research Methods. Mainly suitable for IGCSE students, especially weaker students, but could be used elsewhere if enlarged to A3.

Very basic task about choosing a research method. Create some introductory questions yourself and get the students to figure it out. Useful as introduction, revision, MIC etc.

This is a large mix and match task covering a lot of the key terms for any Research Methods course. Very useful for revision.

A 4 page booklet on Public and Personal Documents, plus a little advantage and disadvantage sheet. Easy to follow. Takes one lesson, maybe longer.

This task is designed to be completed at the end of each method. It takes approx ten minutes, and students have to state how reliable, valid, representative and generalisable each method is on a sliding scale, then justify the answer. Could be cut down to just reliability and validity for GCSE.

These are some resources to develop knowledge and understanding of Life Chances. Specifically focused on IGCSE Sociology. The Life Chances cards should be used as a ranking activity.

This is a task to indicate the difficulties of welfare spending in poorer countries. Print the sheet off and enlarge to A3. Give students a budget (i start off with 200 Billion) and let them spend. They have to spend incrementally, so if they want everything in one area it costs 55 Billion). After they have done this, slash the budget to 30 billion and do the same task.

We all know that Sampling is one of the most boring topics on any Sociology syllabus. Here are all the resources you’ll probably need to get through it at any post-16 course. It’s a dry topic but this covers all the bases I should think. All of it is pretty self-explanatory and tasks do lend themselves to linking to Methods in Context.

Sorting task just highlight in blue New Right policies, and in red the Social Democratic policies. Easy to use and then provoke discussion. Sheet to be filled in afterwards.

This is a collection of resources and activities to help get through Official Statistics. Should work for any curriculum and lead to some relatively interesting discussions. Change the postcode on the research task to areas you are familiar with.

This is a one page Powerpoint slide designed to be printed off as a full slide, laminated and kept on the desks in a classroom. It could also work as a display. It contains key terminology, explanations of command words, spelling guide, useful connectives for essay writing, golden rules etc. Predominantly for A-Level but could easily be used elsewhere. Also useful to give electronically to students.

This is a basic task which should be completed near the start of any research method topic. It’s a pretty basic sort the cards out into the right box task, the actual table should be printed on A3 and the cards cut out on card. Once stuck on correctly, students should have this table on their desks whilst each individual method is being taught.

Pretty detailed matching task on Sociological concepts. Ideal for AS revision.

This should be enlarged to A3. Designed with IGCSE in mind but could also be used for AS level. Fine for all syllabus.

This is just designed to help students structure a research project in Year 10. It’s designed to have students go over previous topics, then work to put some ideas together. Some of it will need adapting, the section on Chinese consent forms probably not relevant to a lot of people. Insert the PPT where the blank page is.

Again, just some basic resources for Non-Participant and Participant Observation. No PPT but you can easily work through the tasks. Pretty self-explanatory. On Observation techniques the 2nd task has a table to complete it on the 2nd page.

Print this off double sided and complete at the end of every method. Even the small ones like Semiology. I’ll stick this up for free so I can get a one star review and someone telling me it doesn’t contain any information.

Just some resources for AS Level Sociology on types of Experiments. Use in conjuction with the Reliable-Valid worksheet I uploaded. Simple, but effective. Enough to get some good discussions out of the class. No PPT. I never bothered with a PPT for this topic. I used videos of Milgram, Jane Elliot, Stamford Prison Experiment and Bandura’s Bobo Doll.
