The aim of this activity is to encourage the students to read food labels in order to collect and analyze nutritional information and have them think critically about the products they buy for food. It is suggested for implementation in 7 and 8th grade. As a first step, discuss with your students about the food pyramid as a tool for recording and assessing their food choices and then use the nutritional information worksheet to practice data collection from food labels and promote informed nutritional choices.

This resource comprises classroom and laboratory activities about one of the most important functions of the ecosystem. It aims at detecting student prior knowledge on the subject and through each activity to complement student knowledge and develop student skills about all the factors that play key role in photosynthesis. My students have been especially excited with the starch photography experiment, in which they printed pictures on plant leaves. This activity has recently been implemented in the form of a summer workshop for the visitors of a Science and Technology Foundation dedicated to contribute to the education of young people. It is aligned with NGSS Disciplinary Core Ideas LS2B and C, Crosscutting Concepts: Energy and Matter and Science Practice: Engaging in Argument from Evidence. The educational material consists of the worksheet that guides the teacher and students step-by-step through all the important topics about photosynthesis in a comprehensive way.
