This is one of my favourite resources, I’ve used it for a few years and have got some excellent results in terms of table knowledge and speed and the kids love the challenge and speed and the improvement they see. It is a really simple and easy to use resource - I print half size and back to back to save paper too. I’ve used in year 6 and included decimals, but great lower down too especially for the tables check. The pack provides 14 different tables resources to use once a week. Included: 14 tables squares all differentiated from 2’s to decimals! (each evel up adds a table in learning sequence) in increasing difficulty. Ths is editble so coud be changed and added to if needed Coloured blocks for wall display MOST IMPORTANTLY - ALL ANSWERS!! This is how I have run it in my classroom: Every child starts in the first level (yes, this is easy for some but it proves they know their tables inside out and back to front AND out of order!) They get 15 minutes to complete the challenge every week - I let them read as they finish so it is silent for everyone else. On the first level they need 24 answers but by the time they are on platinum they need to answer 180 questions! They have to complete each level twice (but that bit is u to you!) with NO errors - the minute they get a question wrong I stop marking (helps to reduce those ‘silly mistakes’) When they complete the grid correctly I hve always allowed them to move up the wall display (small photo of each child). This is obviously dependent on your class though, some yers I haven’t done this if the children didn’t want to. I then had myself or a TA (they are ace :-) or the children mark their answers. It’s quicker to mar than it sounds as if they get one incorrect you stop marking. LEVELS: Red out of 24 2’s and 10’s Yellow out of 36 add 5’s Green out of 48 add 4’s Blue out of 60 add 3’s Orange out of 72 add 9’s White out of 84 add 11’s Black out of 96 add 6’s Pink out of 108 add 7’s Turquoise out of 120 add 8’s Purple out of 132 add 12’s Bronze out of 144 add 13’s Silver out of 156 add 14’s Gold out of 168 add 15’s Platinum out of 180 add decimals (rarely needed!!)

Lovely week of English work for year 5/6 - carefully planned reading sessions based on poverty of life near a river resulting in the children creating a blackout poem using the text. Uses questions around pictures, uses and teaches examples of figurative language. Discusses and teaches high level vocabulary. Finishes in the children creating blackout poetry of their own using the guided reading text. Planning frames included and editable copies of the text.
