Lexical fields and extended metaphor starter

(1)
Used this great little starter to get the pupils thinking about what a writer does to have impact on the reader. Used it with Year 8 to develop understanding of writer’s language and with Year 9 higher ability class to help them with developing their own written work. It’s fully group work orientated with a set of tasks to support their own analysis. Fits well with the drive on oracy if used in conjunction with sentence starters for the PPPB that followed!

Adjectives and adverb starter

Used this as a think/pair/share adjectives and adverbs starter task. Pupils worked in twos to come up with as many adjectives and adverbs as they could in two minutes. They rehearsed putting them into sentences and we finished off with some mini whiteboard work to share ideas.
