I put this together because I saw one on here and then got a real excitement for it and made a full walkthrough presentation with example answers for every question. I hope you find the Paper itself useful as an extra - we know these papers are still rare so I made it as close to a real one, structurally, as I could. Check out my FULL PAPER 1 Walkthrough for this paper! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/aqa-new-spec-gcse-english-language-paper-1-game-of-thrones-unsullied-full-intro-revise-pack-12128418

This 28 SLIDE ppt & handout have been designed to be visually impressive… the graphics were a joy to put together. Heavily animated and laden with activities covering AO1-3 - this action-packed set of 3-4hrs worth of sessions consists of: introductory/formative/summative tasks, embedded videos for use without the need for the internet - animated into images of retro and modern hand-held gaming consoles, and has some quite accessible texts from which to produce some great answers. Has a 1970s arcade advert and a 1990s one. Really nice to compare. The set leads nicely into a Question 5 resource I put together on Gaming & Grammar. See my shop for a discounted bundle!

Updated - Animations had been stripped…they’re now back… Take your AS/A level Eng Lang students through the ages via this quite detailed 2-3hr session. Visually pleasing and videos, embedded for ease of use, are also placed into an old TV Set template. It adds a bit of charm to it but is just a gimmick. My students made notes from slides but all images are of good enough quality to print if you right click them and save as image. I used some of them to make a display with students but they created a giant timeline on a wall with craft materials. Any feedback will be welcomed as it was my first year and some of my students did well so it would be good to improve and update.

This free resource is just a compilation of images taken from AQA Yr 7, 8, 9 books (less than 10% of each and shared for educational purposes ONLY) and put into a displayable format in order to run students through the basics of AO1. It has all answers animated into it, step-by-step/click-by-click, and some handwritten ones that can easily be replaced. Went for the authenticity of a pen on a Microsoft Surface…it looks pixelated in the preview but once downloaded as a PPTX file it’s very smooth and gives a feel of authenticity as examples of what students might have actually written. If you like the animation - have a look at my other free resources which are available. I do put a great deal of effort into the free ones as well as the sold ones - please review and let me know what you think, especially if you think there can be any improvements. I’ve had some external feedback for this. Some the answers were not from the correct lines - this was to gear students for the following task, however: that wasn’t clear - so I’ve modified and added some guiding notes. Hope you find it useful!

This set of Structural Analysis sessions spans a number of lessons and goes into some depth for the latter part of AO2. There are some basics about structure and some stretch & challenge terms and examples of every kind of embedded media there is. The intertextuality lesson is one of the most enjoyable ones I’ve used as it demonstrates how it is a feature that is all around us. Imagine what your students could have said for this with the 2019 Summer paper 1 - Protagonist ‘Alice’ and all the sophisticated links to the metaphorical rabbit hole she ventures down… There is also a lesson for Halloween on AO2 but both language and structure to help with the difference. Also, check out the totally free Global Warning lesson I’ve added to my shop which would complement this pack. Grab Yourself a Bargain NOW!

Features texts and embedded mini clips from Disney’s Hocus Pocus and the sequel & Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas - no internet connection required! There are timers on independent tasks and a matching, colour-coded handout with anything needed to complete tasks. Homework slide with a short task linking to AO4 but can easily be deleted and/or replaced for your own scheme. It can also be split into two sessions for both parts of AO2.

AQA 8700/1 GCSE English Language - Narrative Openings - Paper 1 Question 3

Introduce your students to the significance of narrative expositions with this collection of famous movie openings. Be aware that this was created with adults in mind so there is quite a selection of them and you can therefore skip/delete any you deem to be inappropriate. Mainly used as a group discussion tool for those who are disengaged - Film and Music can be more engaging for 16-18 resits, too. Students are to take note of each opening - Asking: What makes the opening interesting? How are we introduced to characters/setting? Are there any pivotal events which might foreshadow later events? Are there any interesting plot devices? What contrasts are present? Generic markers present? Helps students to understand how much they can talk about in just the exposition of every narrative.

Another detailed, complexly animated presentation with mark schemes, language features, tips, images, example answer, various tasks and homework. There is a great set of tasks which are there to solidify the use of Adjectives and Adverbs. Students may need some support with them but answers are animated on slides. It goes through strategies for approaching images and is actually two sessions in one. Session 1 focuses on Adjective/Adverb use and revisits some language & structure features as a visual reminder. There are then images split and annotated with animation to demonstrate how to approach the image and how important it is to plan. There are plenty of images for students to choose from and plan around. Session 2 is more focused on Titles and Genre - there is a set of tasks and animated lecture slides to provide ideas for tackling a narrative title in Paper1, Question5, as well as an example upper level creative response based on example plans provided in the powerpoint. . Two sets of objectives, one of which I print out and get them to stick in their books for a visual aid to remind them of the lessons when they look back over their notes in revision weeks.

Alert Video Embedded Within the Title Slide - Resources cover SENSITIVE ISSUES… Be sure to gain consent and warn students before use…the video will help with that! This is great for anti-bullying week and will certainly make students think and provide ample natural opportunities for discussion… This is detailed, animated set covers AQA 8700 - Paper 1 Section A - Reading and includes example responses, differences between Language & Structure, Prep’ tasks and exam-style tasks for Questions 1 - 4 from Paper 1. This is a fantastic story to use and provides a great opportunity to promote an open culture in which people are encouraged not to be afraid of asking for help or voicing their concerns or opinions. Serious issues are brought to light via interesting and thought-provoking tasks on language analysis, structural analysis and evaluation. I left Q5 because it was hard enough reading a few hundred stories about abandoned animals in the Summer 2019 paper. I couldn’t face it so there is a homework task slide to link to Q5. It could be used to introduce or revise Sec. A because it assumes some knowledge but has some detail, also. It also has timers and mark schemes and anything required for tasks in a handout.

THIS can be used as an introductory session or extension one. It has a set of 3 car ads embedded for the starter activity - Evaluate which car is best. Fully animated with the mark scheme and a set of 3 evaluation statements which are different in complexity. The text extract is from Helen Simpson’s ‘Constitutional’ - a little story called ‘The Door’. Use the exam-style tasks in class and as homework for further practice.

AQA 8700/1 GCSE English Language - Complete P1 Set - Bird Box

This is a full intro/revision session that could be run-through quickly or spread over a few sessions. It has 3x examples for each of the three main reading questions and an exemplar creative piece which is higher level, covering writing. These all feature on slides with notes attached for most answers with rough guidelines and examiner comments. There are animated group activities and discussion prompts which help the use of the PPT flow, click-by-click, and a hand out which includes a level 3 mark scheme for Q5. Use this incredible story to provoke some fantastic responses - there is nothing graphic here. But there is a short clip from the film which just provides some context and an interpretation of the extract - as well as a discussion prompt. Please note - this does not mention PEE or any other acronym. Please add these should you so wish. Let me know what you think!
