With an overview of structure and a look at how structure relates to genre, this whole session is planned for about 3 hours and has a number of videos which may interest your students. Intertextuality will certainly challenge learners and push those who are more advanced to look for this.
It’s a great structural feature to focus on and has appeared in new specification exams. It inspires interesting predictions based on intertextual links.
This session goes through Paper 1 - Question 5, descriptive and narrative writing, as a practice session. It starts off comparing the mark scheme to an example with a task, following a set of animated annotations which are to be discussed as a group.
Then move onto approaching an image for description and this includes an example, too. There is a list of figurative features which can be amended, as well as a task on making epic connections in creative writing.
Following this, there is a small focus on titles and sentence starters.
Finally, there is a writing challenge which uses a starting sentence and Christmas icons to stimulate and focus writing.
As an added bonus: there is also a Christmas Full Paper 1 mock paper included.
I wrote the example text myself and all top quality images are from www.pixabay.com - where all images are free for use, even for commercial purposes.

It covers a grade 5 mark scheme for content and organisation, activities for creating features, the Action genre is focused on and both language and structure. It has tips for creating, extending and advancing similes and much more!

Great for introducing nonfiction or revising.
This set is for the first two questions of Paper 2. AOs 1 & 2. With an interesting Earth/Mars comparison starter (with animated explanation for afters) - this set looks at both freak weather from 1814 and 2016, from the ideas of conspiracy theorists and religious beliefs of divine intervention.
Strategy included for covering Questions 2, 3 & 4 and two fully animated answer slides for the two Question 1 activities as well as some example annotations - step-by-step guidance for Q4 and example paragraphs for 2 & 3. The whole session is animated with click-by-click/step-by-step animation and looks very impressive with the Morph transitioning.
Handout included and, as always, would appreciate any feedback. =-)
All images taken from www.pixabay.com - where top quality images and short HD videos are free to use, even for commercial purposes…
This resource is a full Paper 1 resource which could have been split into 5-6 individual sessions. - covering every one of the five questions - 80+ slides - I use this for a full revision resource…
Question 1 activities include one chosen to be a little tricky and has a warning with all the sound effects.
Question 2 covers relationships between siblings via language in GOT.
Question 3 looks at structure in the Maze Runner and looks at narrative openings.
Questions 4 has a fantastic group activity where groups must consider a well-known trial and come up with a verdict and sentence.
Question 5 does in with a descriptive focus using a M&S add and some other techniques and images.
Exam-style questions & Academic Objectives, throughout.
It has embedded video clips for use without reliance on connection. It has vast animations which contribute to activities, sound effects and song clips. As well as activities relating to each of the five questions, it also includes timers and initial preparation tasks/group work along with a secondary text-based, timed, activity to assess. There are book recommendations, RRPs and a Partridge in a Pair Tree…(not). But it is quite detailed.
Run the slideshow to see the effects and how it all works. It has had a great deal of work put into to in order to make it fun and enjoyable.
Texts Featured:
The Magicians - Lev Grossman
A Game of Thrones - George R. R. Martin
Treasure Island - RLS
The Maze Runner - James Dashner
The Electric Michaelangelo - Sarah Hall
It also makes use of the Oscar Pistorius trial for Q4. It has no graphic information or images but encourages students to use evidence to form an objective assessment and evaluation.
Structure has been given some serious attention here because it was new when I made this resource.
I use over about 6 hours.
Please also note that this is aimed at 16+ but can easily be edited to fit a younger audience.

Another detailed, complexly animated presentation with mark schemes, language features, tips, images, example answer, various tasks and homework.
There is a great set of tasks which are there to solidify the use of Adjectives and Adverbs. Students may need some support with them but answers are animated on slides.
It goes through strategies for approaching images and is actually two sessions in one.
Session 1 focuses on Adjective/Adverb use and revisits some language & structure features as a visual reminder. There are then images split and annotated with animation to demonstrate how to approach the image and how important it is to plan. There are plenty of images for students to choose from and plan around.
Session 2 is more focused on Titles and Genre - there is a set of tasks and animated lecture slides to provide ideas for tackling a narrative title in Paper1, Question5, as well as an example upper level creative response based on example plans provided in the powerpoint. .
Two sets of objectives, one of which I print out and get them to stick in their books for a visual aid to remind them of the lessons when they look back over their notes in revision weeks.
This is a well-researched and in-depth overview containing 54 slides and a lot of interesting facts and details about the intricacies of Language & Sexuality in contemporary culture. THere is a matching 3o page booklet with references on slides throughout.
An in-depth introduction to American English and some example vdeo clips embedded to save reliance on internet connection.
This has been well-researched and has embedded videos to contextualise learning. Maps, charts, statistics…
Covers all of Paper 2 and is great for revision weeks.
This is a fully animated powerpoint presentation with tasks that run on a click-by-click basis. Answers are animated andi t is easy to follow, has an example of each of the questions with a preparation task leading into each. Mark schemes are included and a set of unique sources and exam questions with embedded timers and a range of texts.
This is a three hour set of sessional activities with a glossary page and marking criteria that could easily be extended and streched out. The PPT works, hand-in-hand, with the booklet and it would be a good idea to pilot the delivery as the animation work click-by-click/step-by-step.
This was originally created for resit students which is why it’s in such a condensed format and has an exam-style task on contraception.
Hope you find it useful!
DETAILED & HEAVILY ANIMATED!
This is a full intro/revision session that could be run-through quickly or spread over a few sessions.
It has 3x examples for each of the three main reading questions and an exemplar creative piece which is higher level, covering writing.
These all feature on slides with notes attached for most answers with rough guidelines and examiner comments.
There are animated group activities and discussion prompts which help the use of the PPT flow, click-by-click, and a hand out which includes a level 3 mark scheme for Q5.
Use this incredible story to provoke some fantastic responses - there is nothing graphic here. But there is a short clip from the film which just provides some context and an interpretation of the extract - as well as a discussion prompt.
Please note - this does not mention PEE or any other acronym. Please add these should you so wish.
Let me know what you think!
Alert Video Embedded Within the Title Slide - Resources cover SENSITIVE ISSUES…
Be sure to gain consent and warn students before use…the video will help with that! This is great for anti-bullying week and will certainly make students think and provide ample natural opportunities for discussion…
This is detailed, animated set covers AQA 8700 - Paper 1 Section A - Reading and includes example responses, differences between Language & Structure, Prep’ tasks and exam-style tasks for Questions 1 - 4 from Paper 1.
This is a fantastic story to use and provides a great opportunity to promote an open culture in which people are encouraged not to be afraid of asking for help or voicing their concerns or opinions. Serious issues are brought to light via interesting and thought-provoking tasks on language analysis, structural analysis and evaluation.
I left Q5 because it was hard enough reading a few hundred stories about abandoned animals in the Summer 2019 paper. I couldn’t face it so there is a homework task slide to link to Q5.
It could be used to introduce or revise Sec. A because it assumes some knowledge but has some detail, also. It also has timers and mark schemes and anything required for tasks in a handout.
Based on the visits of two presidents from recent times and the 1980s, to the UK, this full intro/revision set has over 30 slides and an original exam-style paper, as well as the sources on an A3 sheet for pair/group annotation work. There are example answers which are based on different questions and an opening to a Q5 response.
Run the fully animated slide show to see how it all moves in Office 365. There is also a card matching game built into an intro to Q4. Each examplar is based on a different question to what is in the paper itself and so there is plenty for students to model their own responses upon.
