I am a Science Teacher with 8+ years experience. After spending 5 years in Secondary Schools across Liverpool and Leeds, I have now settled into the Further Education sector teaching students from 16 to 68 (my oldest student so far). Teaching students from such a wide range of ages and backgrounds has encouraged me to develop resources that are designed to appeal to all learners. I tend to focus very much on developing a visual and kinaesthetic inventory to promote some fun into learning.

Atom structure and electronic arrangement and ionic bonding

(0)
Activity to arrange electrons onto electron shells and a worksheet to fill in about atomic structure and electronic structure of the first 20 elements. Designed for BTEC Level 2 Applied Science but would work well for Additional Sciences and other Chemistry lessons. Ionic bonding sheet continues on and the same activity using the electrons and shells can be used again to aid understanding of how electrons are lost and gained between metal and non-metals. Great for kinaesthetic and visual learners. Any feedback appreciated.

Column chromatography - Chlorophyll separation

(1)
Designed for my BTEC level 2 Applied Science students for Unit 19 (NQF). The worksheet has video links, a couple of questions and activities for students around the methodology and reasoning behind column chromatography. The particular focus is on separating chlorophyll in plants. I made this mainly because it is so hard to actually do as a class practical and it just made it easy to understand for my students and a simple write-up supports their assignment work for methods of chromatography. Enjoy :) NB the last question should show some indication of a row of test tubes with extracted samples in the order that they exited the column. This is obviously different to the paper and TLC where they have the colours separated up the paper or membrane.

Unit 6 Science A (AQA) revision cards

Apologies that it has taken me so long to put these up. Just double check the formatting as well as somethimes they jiggle all over the place between uploads and downloads. Core Science/Science A, tailored for AQA but helpful for all specifications and exam boards. It is unit 6 so the second half of Biology, Chemistry and Physics but if merged with Unit 5 which are already on here then it covers the full spec. Enjoy and please leave feedback :)

Carbohydrates - structure and function

(0)
1. Worksheet with questions to summarise the main information about carbohydrates 2. Summary table and sort card activity to sort the descriptions, examples and uses of the different types of carbohydrates 3. Molymod building activity - building different carbohydrate molecules from clues given *If no molymods, these could be drawn out or other molecular model making equipment used. 4. Extension activity - for students to start linking the structures and functional groups in their models with uses mentioned in the sort card activity previously Answers to summary table, sort card activity and the clues for the molecule building.

BTEC Level 2 NQF Applied Science - Unit 5 (Identifying Organic Compounds)

I have struggled to find resources for this in the past so I have made this one. It starts off with methods for the tests for: alcohols, hydrocarbons and carboxylic acids and works up to take students through results, conclusions, structures and functional groups and to the Distinction level explaining the reactions. Covers 3 pieces of criteria for Unit 5.
