Geometry All Around Us - Suitable Grades 2-5 - Project Based

(0)
Geometry all around us is an excellent add on to your geometry unit. For many of your students, geometry is purely and solely used and heard of in Math. It is something they learn in school and is often set as homework. Most students do not see the relevance of geometry outside of the classroom. Therefor this project has been designed for students to gain an insight into the world of geometry our everyday lives in our natural and man-made world. Goal Working in small groups of 4 or 6, your students will create a collage showing examples of geometry in the world. They will also be writing a summary of their collages, highlighting examples of geometric shapes and principles. ** Skills your students will cover Identifying examples of polygons and other geometric shapes in the natural and man-made world Classifying line segments as parallel or perpendicular Classifying two-dimensional shapes by their sides and angles Communicating Math ideas Using technology (if you are using a computer) Identifying line and rotational symmetry Please note: Watermarks/blurred images will not be in your downloaded file! Separate Salt from Water - STEM Activity - STEM Experiment

Can you really separate salt from water? Is it possible once the salt has been dissolved? Please note this involves hot water - that’s why its graded between 3 and 5. This is suitable for younger students if supervised. This experiment could also take a few days to see results. Best done over two lessons (not back to back). Throughout this experiment your students will test two theories. Those who think you can separate salt from water will be on a quest to prove the theory right. Those who think it cannot be separated will also be on a quest to prove their theory right. What’s included in this resource Teacher Notes Material + Checklist and Prediction sheet Experiment instructions Conclusion sheet Assessment of knowledge sheet - Did your students actually understand the experiment they performed Please note: Watermarks/blurred images will not be in your downloaded file! Along with an A4 size printout, there is also 4 mini ones to a page which can be cut and stuck in books or sent home as a reference for parents. There is also a section for you to add notes. Back to School Activity: Getting to Know you Task Cards: Film Themed Border

This is a fun way to engage your students and have them rotate between partners. To make this getting to know you activity more exciting I created a space that was film based. Partners took it turns in interviewing the other and recording their answers. I also had students work in small groups of 4 and playing with the cards in a make shift go fish style. Lots of fun was had all round! What you get 28 Film themed getting to know you cards 4 blank film themed getting to know you cards Suggestion I highly suggest laminating and printing enough that half the class has access. By laminating you can also use dry erases to write the answers on. Suitability I have listed this resource as ‘not grade specific’ simply because any age can play it and it can be used as an enhancement in other activities. However, this has been primarily designed with Kinder- Grade 2 in mind.
