I give my students one of these “weekly wonders” each week to help them focus on a specific chunk.<br /> Each of these 10 weekly task includes<br /> -specification points to encourage focus</p> <ul> <li>a list of learning tasks to complete (eg suggested cards to make, short questions to answer, definitions to look up and revise, hints and tips)</li> <li>a set of short questions to check knowledge</li> <li>exam style questions, adapted from various sources to test understanding and the mark schemes for self assessment.</li> </ul>

<p>An ideal first lesson for Yr 7 (or possibly an induction/transition lesson)</p> <ul> <li>Powerpoint including clear instructions for practical and starter activity on safety and identifying hazards. Only equipment needed - universal indicator and a big bottle of sparkling water (needs to be fresh to see a good colour change on heating)</li> <li>Worksheet on identifying common hazard symbols.</li> <li>Hw sheet for a safety poster</li> <li>Bunsen burner “licence” certificate for students to be given after they have shown independence in lighting and using the bunsen burners.</li> </ul>

<p>I created this for my last couple of revision lessons with GCSE separate science physicists and for combined/trilogy physicists.<br /> I’ve got a “physics on a page” (if you print double sided it makes one A4 page) per exam, for reading through. The idea is to condense the absolute essentials onto 1 page for a final review.</p> <p>I’ve also made a “fill the gaps” version so that they can work through and just fill in, making sure students are engaging with the work. I’d also suggest using them for students to cut up/copy onto flash cards to make bitesize chunks of information</p>

<p>For secondary school/sixth form - organised into rounds, to break it down.<br /> All the answers are in the “notes” bit of the powerpoint. The music round - I just play clips online as I go along but the other 7 rounds should all be straightforward.<br /> It is designed to last an hour (maybe more) so could be shortened for form times etc.</p> <p>I have borrowed some questions from other quizzes to put all this together, so thanks for all who have shared.</p> <p>Happy Christmas Quizzing :)</p>

They are designed to support the students during the work by breaking down the skills being assessed into more specific tasks for the activity they are completing, making it easier for them to see what they should be doing to acquire the skills. <p>Working Like a Scientist - 10 lesson unit of work (including powerpoints and resources)<br /> I designed and made these resources as an introduction to GCSE Science for the end of year 9 or start of year 10<br /> The idea is to introduce some of the key language and skills needed for GCSE science, so that they can be referred back to during required practical work and built on over time.<br /> The lessons are</p> <ol> <li>Variables</li> <li>Equipment and measurements</li> <li>Safety</li> <li>Planning and method writing<br /> 5, 6 and 7 - maths skills, including data handling<br /> 8, 9 - Graphs</li> <li>Equations.</li> </ol> <p>Each lesson can be standalone, but designed to run in series. There are worksheets and other activities.<br /> Whilst I originally designed this for blended learning (partly online) and it worked very well across the ability range with Year 9, it would work even better if taught in a lab with examples of equipment, practicals and perhaps some mini investigations built in.</p>

Focussed on electricity and electromagnetism (P2 and P7 in AQA GCSE)<br /> Use with students to pick out key points that should be included and to show them what a good answer looks like. I suggest getting them to write their own perfect answers and making a “cheat sheet” for the topic to show what common sentences should be included for any questions on eg Motors as a follow up.</p>

<p>This is a bundle of short revision activities for GCSE Physics (trilogy or separate). These could be used as quick revision starters or “Do it now” tasks throughout the year or use them all together in a revision quiz lesson.</p> <p>To use as a quiz: Divide class into teams - the teams have to complete a sheet and then bring it up for marking - as you mark put the points score up on the board (excel spreadsheet perhaps or whiteboard). This keeps the pace fast - either have a set time per round or each team can complete at their own pace (with bonuses for finishing first).</p>

<p>Are crunchie bars as strong as bone under stress? A-level physics home learning activity.<br /> A practical that can be completed at home using simple equipment to help A-level physics students develop an understanding of compressive stress.<br /> The worksheet guides students through some measurements they can do at home using crunchie bars. There are also some analysis activities and practice at using the equation for calculating stress.</p> <p>I designed this for my year 12 students to complete at home during lockdown. They’ve enjoyed doing it and got quite good results, so I hope your students enjoy too.</p> <p>Note - this is a resource I created, but is based on a similar idea I found in an edexcel book</p>
