This Mini-Lesson explores positive self talk which is the key to building self esteem… Persistent low self-esteem can impact an individual’s life in many ways. The constant exposure to negative feelings can trigger depression, anger, guilt, shame, anxiety or sadness. These emotions can feel overwhelming at times.
One way that can really help is to change the negative self-talk into positive self-talk. This in turns help to build self-esteem. By improving self-esteem, the student is better able to emotionally regulate which serves to improve many areas of their lives. This mini-lesson serves to change the negative self-talk scripts that students often gravitate towards and move to a more positive and constructive self-talk script.
The example of a spider and its web is used. The more you tell yourself NEGATIVE self-talk, the more it will stick. The more you tell yourself positive self-talk, the more it will stick. Just like a spider catching food in it’s web. Once it’s caught…it’s hard to get out. So, the students are empowered to make a choice - to have either positive or negative self talk stuck in their web!
This resource includes many self-talk affirmations and scripts that the students can read and include on their own “self-esteem” spider web. They can choose which ones they want to apply to them. Included are a couple of reflective exercise activity sheets to help students to reflect and gain insight into what is happening for them. This is a great resource for students who would like to explore self-talk and self-esteem!

Este libro de trabajo ha sido diseñado para que los más pequeños exploren la autoestima y los sentimientos.
Los niños con autoestima generalmente se sienten bien consigo mismos. This is a fun, creative and engaging intervention for students to explore honesty and integrity and reinforce positive behaviours. This intervention is great for students who have difficulty with persistent lying. This intervention helps students to embrace honesty and integrity and project their internal beliefs, fears and values about themselves onto a truth hero that they create.
Within this intervention the truth hero is encouraged to play two truths and a lie so that they play intentional truth telling and lying. Reflecting on the positive impact of telling the truth including on building relationships and trust with friends is explored in creative ways.
Although this isn’t a directive/skills-based intervention, this mini-lesson has been successful at supporting students who have a history of lying.
This therapeutic intervention requires the therapist to be very curious and unconditionally accepting of the truth hero that the student creates and imagines.
Remember the vital role of empathy and at the end of the intervention thank the student for sharing what they would look like as a truth hero to support integration.

All Therapy Resources pride ourselves on creating therapeutic, behavioural and educational resources that we use in-house within our own practice. This means that our resources are tried and tested by a team of Allied Health professionals - Counsellors, Occupational and Speech Therapists, Behaviour Practitioners, Play Therapists and Psychologists - so we know they work!
Because we are fortunate to have such a wonderful and diverse range of clients, our resources cover a broad spectrum of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) topics. These include resources on Impulse Control, Anger Management, Anxiety, Mental Health and psychotherapy treatment, DBT and CBT interventions, Social and Friendship Skills , Conflict Management, SPED, Individual and Group Curriculums, Executive Functioning, Classroom Management, Career Exploration, Counselling Documentation and even Professional Development. We want to see everyone thrive, and our resources can help ensure that you can too.
