quick interactive activity we can give our students to do individually to consolidate the difference between the preterite and the imperfect tenses in Spanish. The reason for this activity to be done individually is because it has explanations (formation, uses…) on the slides that students can click on if they’re stuck. See preview for options.

A competitive reading activity called question trails to make reading more fun. This question trails exercise is based on a text on Afroperuvian music (AQA AS Spanish - El patrimonio musical topic). Activity took 2 hours to create but it was well worth it - students worked in pairs and had fun trying to complete the activity first. Rewards can be given for extra motivation to the pair finishing first. As students will have to read the text carefully, the whole activity will easily take around 20-30 minutes to carry out, depending on ability. All instructions and handouts required are inside of the pack. Answers included too. Could stretch the activity even further by having students write a summary on the text once the competition is over. A different and fun way to get students reading for detail without complaining!

A translation maze inspired on the language from pages 86 and 87 on the Viva 1 textbook, topic ‘como es tu casa o piso?’ (module 4.4). All instructions are on the resource, and should be displayed and explained to students before starting to play. Aim: to find your way out of the maze by shading a path of correct answers. You get out when your path connects the entrance with the exit boxes. If you don’t know this activity it has, in essence, the same principle as a bingo. It takes quite some time to run, as there are 18 different questions/rounds and children get very excited by shading the boxes and counting how many left they need to shade before they get out of the maze! The teacher should then check the answers (all included) of any child claiming to have got out of the maze: note they should be perfect or close to perfect translations to be able to call a winner. If you were to get through the 18 rounds and no one has managed to get out of the maze (unlikely), go back to question 1 and get them to translate the opposite sentence until someone can win. This activity tends to work wonders with any age group and is a nice alternative to bingo. It’s also easily editable - you might find the sentences I’ve used are too challenging for your class. Unit 3.2 from Mira express 2

A lesson I created to teach Unit 1.4 Adonde vas? based on Mira 2 express textbook. It contains a ppt presentation, a quick human sentences starter activity and a grammar worksheet I made myself to work on the present and near future tenses.

One document includes questions from units 1 to 3 based on mira 2 express, and the other one (summer term assessment) includes a wider range of topics and roleplays to be prepared. Mark-scheme also included to help you grade these on the spot.

A ppt which covers the relevant language to teach Module 1.2 ‘De vacaciones’ from the Viva 2 textbook. You will find plenty of vocabulary for students to be able to talk about what they did in their holiday, sequencing each activity properly (list of extended sequencing phrases included) and understanding the preterite tense of -ar verbs, with practice included. Ppt contains vocab sheets if you print these for your ss; a vocab test on verbs and ideas to put all skills into practice, as well as a few starter activities. Check out the notes pane - often you will find instructions to tasks and extension ideas. Bundle on the whole module also available on my profile.

A 54-slide ppt which covers the relevant language to teach Module 3.2 Te gustan las ciencias? from the Viva 1 textbook. Ppt recaps opinions and adjectives and adds new ones to describe both subjects and teachers at length. There is quite a lot to practise adjectival agreement and plurals. There are differentiated and challenging activities to practise all skills with your students, a range of starter activities and 2 different vocab tests at the end of the ppt. You will find all materials to teach module 3 in my shop. Check out the bottom notes on each slide - you will often find instructions to tasks.

Unit 2.5 from Mira 1 express on the topic of food. It includes a wide range of activities and grammar worksheets.

A straightforward ppt which covers the relevant language to teach Module 3.1 Que estudias? from the Viva 1 textbook. Ppt introduces school subjects, parts of the day and recaps days of the week so that students can talk at length about what they study and when. By the end of the unit, students will be able to also say what their favourite day is and why. Ppt includes a number of starter activity ideas plus 2 different vocab tests. Check out the bottom notes on each slide - you will often find instructions to tasks.

3 differentiated sentence builders I created to get students speaking about: Kapitel 3 - Was machst du in deiner Freizeit? Kapitel 4 - Was gibt es in deinem Klassenzimmer? Kapitel 4 - Was gibt es in deiner Stadt? These have proved successful with my students, as they haven’t not only aided with speaking tasks, but they’ve loved to refer to them for writing tasks as well, as they know exactly what to do in order to produce high quality sentences. Each builder includes step by step ideas on how to extend sentences to go from a grade B to A*.

This resource covers unit 5.2 from the Stimmt 1 textbook ‘Wir gehen einkaufen’, dealing with souvenirs (using ich mochte). 25 slides with vocabulary and exercises following closely pages 100 and 101 from the textbook and including variations and additions to it. NOTE: for instructions on what to do in some activities, look at the notes pane.

7 different boards where students highlight items based on the groups given in each board. With this resource, students will be reinforcing common grammatical points they get mixed up: personal pronouns: s/he, we, they high frequency reflexives, stem-changing verbs and irregular verbs verbs in the 1st and 3rd person, singular and plural por/para ser/estar preterite, present, future & conditional haber, ser & tener in the 3rd person singular Answers included; some boards require students not only to highlight but also to write the correct answer (e.g. in por/para). A popular resource among my students, as it’s an alternative way of doing revision for which you just need a bunch of different highlighters.

These are good to do as starters before a module exam is going to take place, or as revision before end of year exams. PPT contains 5 slides, 2 for module 1 - mis vacaciones (I did this twice in the year so I designed two versions); 1 for module 2 - todo sobre mi vida; 1 for module 3 - ¡a comer!; and 1 for module 4 - ¿qué hacemos? They all include items from each sub-unit within the module, ensuring everything is revisited. Each slide contains 12 questions ranging from very easy - easy - challenging - difficult for students to translate into either language, or come up with a short explanation / phrase. The harder the question, the more points they can take if they get it right. The idea is for them to do it at the back of their book / on a MWB. Answers appear on click. Allow at least 15 minutes of the lesson for it to be done properly.
