A simple but engaging revision game to revise 10 key quotations from each scene. Start and scene 1 and roll the dice. The students can advance if they can analyse the quotation they land on. You can differentiate it easily by asking for two inferences per quotation and asking for links to specific A0s. Dice not included.

Analysis of 6 key quotations linked to the theme of guilt in Macbeth.

A resource to support students aiming for high marks on question 9 of the Edexcel GCSE Music examination. There are 10 points per set work which students can revise from which aim to either link to the genre, link to characteristic features of the piece/genre or explain WHY the composer chose a certain aspect. This has been used with a cohort of students for revision and half of the cohort achieved 9 or above /12 on the essay question.

This popular resource includes 3 grade 9 Romeo and Juliet responses, 1 grade 8 response and 1 grade 7 model response to 5 AQA style GCSE examination questions on Romeo and Juliet. The exam questions and extracts are included beside the model responses. I have tried to produce responses at the level reasonably expected of a high-level GCSE-aged student within 45 minutes of examination time. Sometimes when teachers write exemplar responses, they produce such a high level of analysis that students find them overwhelming. I tried to avoid that. Includes a grade 9 model response to a question on adults and children. Includes a grade 8 model response to a question about male hostility and asks students how they could turn it into a grade 9 response through deeper language analysis (A02). This resource is ideal to use to show students how to write successful answers that meet the criteria for A01, A02 and A03. I have also included a sixth examination question so that students can have a go at an exam question themselves using my 9 step method.

It can be used to memorise quotations and explanations or to support exam-style answers on characters or themes. Includes a pdf version and an editable version. Also includes a blank version without the explanations which you can use to help test students on whether they can explain the quotations. Complete lesson analysing Fred’s character in A Christmas Carol. Differentiated starter activity. Detailed annotation of 8 key Fred quotations with 4 detailed inferences for each quotation. The annotations are animated to appear one by one so you can talk them through. Students are then given a model paragraph and asked to use their notes to write the next paragraph(s). The plenary invites students to consider the strengths and weaknesses of Dickens’ characterisation and asks students to think about Fred’s one-dimensionality.

My students voted this as their most useful revision resource for A Christmas Carol. First ask students to annotate the top 50 quotations in the text and then give out the answer sheet to check their responses. For weaker students, there is a matching version where students match the 50 quotations to 50 brief explanations. Also contains more advanced notes on my top 20 quotations linked to A01, A02 and A03. For students wanting a comprehensive knowledge of the text there is also a 100 quotation version with meanings, methods and message briefly explained for all 100 quotations.

A 45 minute (871 word) high level top band response to the following question: Starting with this extract, how does Dickens present Scrooge as an outsider to society. Includes the extract. Also includes 6 revision cards looking at 6 quotations about isolation.

‘A thesis-style introduction that demonstrates your understanding of the question can be a really helpful way of starting your answer. It shows that you are ‘in charge’ of your essay and that you know what you think. It can provide a strong foundation for the rest of the essay. Keep referring back to the introduction to create a coherent response.’ AQA examiner’s report 2022 Creating a thesis-style introduction is a challenge for many students but is essential in helping students to reach levels 4-6 in the mark scheme. I have produced a simple 3 point structure to help students quickly generate a thesis statement in timed exam conditions. There is an example of the 3 point structure being used and then students attempt to imitate the structure for 4 other exam-style questions.

This resource contains 15 AQA style exam questions for Power and Conflict - one for each poem. There is a grid to help students create two lines or argument for comparing the poems. The grid contains information about power, conflict, key quotations, structure and context for each poem. A PowerPoint is also included to help model how to plan lines of argument on the interactive whiteboard. Also includes 4 differentiated writing frames to 4 actual AQA power and conflict past exam questions. Each writing frame has 3 tiers of difficulty to allow for the fact different students in the class require different levels of support and guidance in the run up to the examinations. Tier 1: Students add the analysis of the quotations. The topic sentences and recommended quotations are already filled in for them. Tier 2: Students must pick their own 3 quotations from each poem and analyse the quotations. Tier 3: Students must pick their own topic sentences, quotations and then analsyse the quotations.
