Ratio using the Bar Model Treasure Hunt This treasure hunt activity promote cooperative learning and engagement by pupils working in pairs to find the correct answer. This treasure hunt activity has been prepared to practice skills of ratio; sharing amounts using the bar model and solving problems of more/less. It was designed to support the KS3 White Rose Hub scheme of work for Year 8, Autumn term scheme of work. It is differentiated to three levels of difficulty; red, amber and green and is developed with KS3 bar model in mind, but could be used for Foundation GCSE students. This Treasure Hunt activity has been prepared to practice skills of rounding, as needed in many GCSE questions, rounding up to significant figures. There are three treasure hunts of increasing difficulty, with red the easiest and suitable for those entry level/Foundation covering rounding to the nearest 10, 100 etc. The amber level is suitable for GCSE students and covers rounding to given decimal places as well as nearest km, m, cm and therefore pupils are required to know their metric conversions. GCSE 9-1 Maths Exam Bills, Statements, Credit, Debit (Task Cards) This is a set of thirteen different task cards on bills, pay statements, bank statements, credit and debit in which pupils need to find the missing values. This download also includes a free complementary starter activity “9-1 New Spec Bills, Statement Quick Fire Questions”. Pupils complete the ten quick fire questions on slides 3 onwards on mini white boards. We recommend you use this starter to ensure terminology such as debit and credit are understood and methods are discussed with each question. Each question helps to introduce terminology and recap basic skills of addition, subtraction and multiplication in relation to bills, pay statements and bank statements as required in the new GCSE 9-1 mathematics specification. This purchase includes four different fortune tellers (cootie catchers in the US) on BIDMAS/PEDMAS the order of operations and also blank fortune tellers so pupils can create their own. Each fortune teller has eight questions requiring students to use the order of operations to perform calculations . The corners of the cootie catcher indicated the differentiation which is to three levels (easy, medium and difficult) and the fourth corner is a “pot luck” section. Math Art combines the fun of colouring and the consolidation of mathematical skills Ideal as a plenary activity to determine what learning has taken place, alternatively use to determine pupils prior knowledge to a topic and of course great for revision. In this math art activity pupils need to calculate missing angles, including isosceles triangles, parallel lines and polygons. Pupils start where indicated, make a note of the letter in the middle of the row (cross it out to keep track) and then work out the answer to the question below. They then find this answer on the top row and again make a note of the letter underneath, thus collecting the punchline ‘because they have sine and cosine to get a tan’.
