Two short lessons designed for the Safer Internet Day 2023 to tackle disinformation and encourage fact-checking through education. First lesson: disinformation. It includes basic online practices that spread disinformation to raise awareness and discuss where they have seen these techniques used in the internet. Second lesson: debunking. Students are encouraged to check claims seen on the internet. It includes a slide with several fake news for students to debunk. Developed using the guidelines from the European commission.

Everything you need to deliver a whole unit of plants for Year 8. Easily adaptable and suitable for Year 7, 9 and for an online learning approach. The topic is divided in 7 parts: Photosynthesis: lesson + mini plenary based on an exit ticket. Leaves: lesson + mini plenary based on an activity to boost the students’ memory with a label exercise. Two investigations that can be followed without lab practical so that it can also be easily done in online learning. Roots: lesson + 3 self-assessment questions Transport of water and minerals: lesson End of unit questions Revision: 20 minutes of revision activities + slides for students to check the right answers. It can be used as revision or assessment. Several slides contain notes with suggestions for the lessons such as starters, links with other topics or opportunities for differentiation. Coincides with Cambridge Checkpoint textbook/scheme of work, but can be used alongside any other SOW. There are two documents with the relevant images for printing and a target list for students to revise. All pictures have been sourced from the creative commons website. This resource contains a power point with a “sudden death quiz” about pathogens and immunity (KS4 level). Easily adaptable and editable for other levels. There are 15 questions with interactive buttons. Only the right question leads you to the next one. Wrong questions lead you back to the beginning of the quiz. It is a great resource for revision that can be used as a class by projecting it on the whiteboard or it can be shared with students for them to navigate it on their own. You have the editable power point for you to add questions or edit them to increase/decrease difficulty. To add questions, you can just copy the last slide before the “well done” slide and move the interactive buttons to match the right answer. In presentation mode the only way to go to the next slide is using the interactive buttons, the mouse or arrow keys will not work (kiosk mode). Press Esc to stop the presentation. You also have the “show” version of the power point that can be shared with students so that they can use it as revision.

The objective of this activity is to introduce students to science while fostering team collaboration and getting to know each other.
