They will look at a range of book extract describing characters looking at this in practice. They will then look at the character description of Miss Trunchbull and be tasked to identify the different descriptions before writing their own character description using the plan and word banks provided. This three-week unit of work is based on the text Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman and the Talk for Writing model with a baseline assessment- planning- imitation- innovation- independent application- final assessment. The pupils will learn what the features of newspaper reports are and how to identify bias. They will look in detail at a ‘model text’ and will learn this off-by-heart to help them reproduce similar sentence structures and vocabulary in their own writing. Through teacher modelling, they will embellish the class version on kidney xenotransplantation before writing their own independently using the techniques they have learnt. In this lesson, students will look at examples of reversible physical changes and irreversible chemical changes involving reactants and products. They will categorise different changes accordingly and will learn what indicators to look for to determine whether something is an irreversible change. Using the experiment proforma sheet, they will carry out four different irreversible change experiments and will discuss their observations before being given scientific explanations for each. In this lesson, students will learn about the British Empire before the Victorian era and how is developed throughout the Victorian period due to Britain’s military and industrial dominance. They will learn about the trade and imports from different countries across the empire and will be tasked to label countries on a map from 1920. Water resistance is a force that tries to slow things down that are moving through water. It is a type of friction and sometimes called drag. In this lesson, students will learn what water resistance is and how it affects us. They will learn about streamlining and how we make things streamlined in order to reduce water resistance. They will also learn about upthrust and how this enables boats to float. They will complete a quiz mid-way through to check understanding. They will then carry out an experiment to investigate how the shape of aluminum foil affects how it behaves in water.
