Reading comprehension passage and questions relating to the Greensboro sit-in (led by four African American students) which was part of the Civil Rights Movement. It was not the first sit-in protest but the most effective. This product also includes other associated tasks and optional map work and watching video with question sheets to complete. Content: Reading comprehension passage 10 Questions to answer – evidence in text and students’ own views Word work: Match words to sentences definition activity Word Search with Answer Key Optional map activity Optional video link (6.21 mins duration) with question sheets (2 pages) The reading passage introduces students to sit-ins as part of the nonviolent protests during the 1950/1960s to challenge the United States Jim Crow Laws. Students look for text-based evidence and also give their own views. Word work The matching activity entails students reading sentences and then matching the definition to the correct word. Word Search: To reinforce vocabulary found in the text. Map activity This is optional - North Carolina has already been identified on the map as one of the southern states that passed the Jim Crow laws soon after the Reconstruction period. Students find out which other southern states did the same then color or shade in the areas on the map. Alphabet resource for display and alphabet activities. This resource contains the following:- Teacher’s Notes • Aa to Zz frieze showing pictures beginning with initial letter. Laminate and punch holes and thread through with a string to hang around the classroom or peg onto a washing line across a wall/classroom. Aa – Zz word strips and related pictures • Laminate and cut out • Can be used as an extension activity. Children trace round the initial dotted letter which shows a picture for that letter. Alphabet cards • Alphabet cards should be printed off twice, laminated and cut out. • Children can play alphabet snap • Other games – lay out 4 or 5 letters in alphabetical order ,e.g. k, l, m, n, o, cover them over. Take a letter away without the children seeing and ask what letter is missing. • Matching lower case to upper case letters activity. Practise writing frames using Sassoon dotted font • These are in upper and lower cases. Each one should be laminated. • After focussing on e.g. ‘t’, children can practise writing over the dots and then without the dots as handwriting exercises. Alphabet Mat Practise (trace over dotted letters) Photocopy these and laminate • Children can keep it in their trays for reference; • can practise their handwriting if they finish their work early or for those children who need to practise fine motor skills. Practise writing frames using Sassoon dotted font • These are in upper and lower cases. Each one should be laminated. • After focussing on e.g. ‘t’, children can practise writing over the dots and then without the dots as handwriting exercises. Alphabet Mat • Can be laminated and blu tac to the wall in the writing/reading/book corner. • Can be used to assess a child’s phonic progress. Alphabet Pictures Games/Assessment • The pictures represent the start of a letter e.g. ‘g’ for grasshopper. The pictures are not in alphabetical order so that you have to look for the picture. • Enlarge the A4 size sheet to A3 and the sheet with the alphabet tiles. • Laminate the Alphabet Pictures grid • Laminate the Alphabet sheet then cut out each letter for use with Alphabet Pictures grid. • Children can play in pairs. A timer can be set so that children have a limited time to place the letter on the correct picture. • Players take turns to ask his/her partner to find the picture beginning with, e.g. ‘s’. The player picks out one of the letters and places it over the correct picture sound on the Alphabet Picture Mat. This resource is on the topic of Saint George and The Dragon legend. A great introduction to myths and legends. Aimed at: KS1/2 The legend of St. George the dragon-slayer is on PowerPoint. The Presentation includes whole class activities and comprehension questions. Children are encouraged to participate in discussion about the story and check their understanding. The second PowerPoint Presentation explains what mythical stories are and why they were told (6 Slides). The third PowerPoint Presentation is on different dragons for whole class activity and to prepare children for their worksheet activity. The resource also contains:- Flexible detailed lesson plans covering 3 lessons (includes learning objectives and plenaries). Each PowerPoint slide is referred to in the lesson plans. Lesson 1: Children are presented with the legend of St. George and then there are 7 comprehension questions. The Myths Presentation is also referred to set the story in context. Differentiated worksheets - With support - LA children read, cut/paste sentences to match pictures; MA/HA write sentences for each picture using time words. Extension: Complete George’s Day Factsheet (colour in/3 questions). Lesson 2: The lesson focus is adjectives. Children review describing words using the Dragons Presentation. Build a word bank of adjectives; model sentence for describing dragon on Slide 12). Differentiated Activity 1 - LA children label the dragon and then write simple sentences after colouring it in. MA/LA - Draw/colour in their dragon and write sentences describing it. Early finishers: Print off one or two dragon slides for children to describe. Lesson 3: Retelling myth in own words. Quick review of the story. Children draft their story and also use their description of their dragon in the previous lesson to add into the story. There is a worksheet to write up the final draft.

This pack relates to euros and euro cents currency. Updated 17 May 2022 to include two versions of the original Presentation and worksheets showing the different ways euros/cents are written. Aimed at KS1/Kindergarten/Grade 1 and ESL/EFL students. The presentation can be used as follow-up to the first pack and builds upon the skills students have learnt previously. It still uses a step-by-step approach to teaching money but using higher value coins. This pack contains: <strong>A comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation (53 Slides) - divided into convenient sections. </strong> 1.Reviewing coins and their values, money exchange and using the 50c, €1 and €2 coins. 2. Using €1 and €2 euro coins. Using combination of coins to equal the value of the one euro and two euro coins. 3. Using euros and cents together - this is explained in the presentation with various whole class activities 4. Giving change from €1 and € 2 euro coins. The Presentation also includes whole class activities and different strategies students can use to work out money problems. This resource relates to matching a mixture of CVC words to pictures. Learning aims: To read and match CVC words to pictures by segmenting and blending. There are two parts to this resource: 1. Play as a game to practise blending and segmenting; 2. For the teacher to assess children's progress in reading CVC words. This product contains: - Teachers' Notes on suggested activities - 8 phonic CVC Phonic Boards 1 to 8 containing clipart pictures - 72 word cards - 24 alien words/pseudo-words - 8 Phonic CVC Screening Check Sheets The boards are colour-coded with the word cards. On each board there are 9 cvc pictures and 3 alien pictures. There are 9 real word cards and 3 alien/pseudo-words for each picture board. Learn to read consonant, vowel, consonant(cvc) words via games - children choose any board number (Board 1 to Board 8) which are colour-coded with the word cards, e.g. Board 1 (yellow) with yellow word cards. H/she chooses a board and read the word on the card and cover the picture that matches the word. The alien pictures can be covered with any of the pseudo-word cards. Children can play in twos/threes - choose the colour of their boards and word cards. Shuffle the set of word cards and lay them face down on the table. They take turns turning over a card. If a card matches their board colour, s/he reads the word and covers the picture for that word. If the colour does not match or s/he cannot read the word, the word card is put back face down on the table. Using the word cards only - shuffle a selection of cards and the child reads as many words as s/he can. Additional use to check progress: For the teacher/assistant - Optional 8 Phonics screening check sheets - On each sheet there is a list of words that correspond to the set of word cards. Select a set of cards and as the child reads each card you complete the phonics screening sheet. Please see preview pane of a completed phonic board with cards. These are Spring phonics worksheets relating to beginning consonant blends or clusters. They are ideal for reviewing work on blends and for writing simple sentences using beginning blends. There are also differentiated multiple-choice worksheets whereby students select the correct blend to complete one or two words in a sentence. Content: Consonant blend worksheets Writing simple sentences Missing consonant blends worksheets Fun colour by Code Activity – great for early finishers Consonant blends worksheets: There are 7 consonant blends worksheets containing 9 blends pictures on each sheet with incomplete words. Students select the correct missing blends from the grid using the picture clues. Version 2: The cut and paste sheet contains part of the consonant blend word. Students should write in the missing blends to compete the words and then cut out and glue on the worksheets 1 and 2. This product relates to UK sterling money pounds and pence. Its aim is to encourage students to use different skills to find solutions to a two-step problem. Aimed at: Keystage 1/Lower Keystage 2. Ideal for revising adding up coins and to finding how much more money to pay for an item. The worksheets start off with small denominations and then it increases to 50p and £1. There are 60 differentiated worksheets.
