A Level Lighting Lesson - can be used as distance learning/ Covid isolation work

This lesson is designed for A level students to revise and understand specific lighting terminology. This has been taken directly from the Edexcel A level glossary for lighting. Students then have a technical question for Section B at the end of the powerpoint in order to apply what they have learned through writing a paragraph with the teacher. This can be a resource where students self-teach in isolation and learn the terminology independently.

This lesson contains the terminology for set and stage designs at A level. This has been taken directly from the Edexcel glossary of terms. Students read the set text extract and then learn the terminology necessary. They then create their own set designs and put this into action with an opportunity for development at the end. This is all able to be done at a social distance.

This is part of a series of lessons for technical isolation work. Please see my other resources. This lesson will require students to have access to Youtube. They will learn about the different types of sounds in sound design. Then they will pick a scenario that they are to create the sound for. They then write a paragraph at the end of the power point. There is a voice recording to guide the student through the paragraph writing.

This is part of a series of design lessons that students can complete independently at home. Please look at my other resources. An independent learning resource for students to learn about many different theatrical lighting terms and the impact that it has on an audience. At the end there are tasks for students to complete helping them to describe lighting states and how to design them.

Frantic Assembly Chair Duets lesson social distancing

(1)
This is an adaptation of Frantic Assembly’s Chair Duets. Social distancing suitable in practical learning. It is a double lesson where students create a sequence of movements (using principles of chair duets) but have adapted to suit current covid restrictions. Students face each other. There are useful resources on there such as music and contextual references to add to the piece later on. There are also videos of strong chair duets.

Expressionist theatre/ Expressionism lesson

(1)
This full lesson teaches A level students the specific features of Expressionism with the aim to focus this on Machinal by Sophie Treadwell. However I have made this lesson so that you can adapt it to suit your text. It looks at the influences of art onto different elements of theatre such as lighting, set and performers. This aims to cater for the Edexcel Drama and Theatre studies set text (Section B) in the written A level exam. It can also be used as a revision resource/ independent work.

WJEC Eduqas Stimulus 1 Devised home learning/ live lesson

This was a live lesson that I completed with my GCSE students who are looking at devised theatre with the new stimuli from WJEC eduqas exam board. The tasks are suitable for home learning independently or can be taught in a live lesson. This is an easily adaptable lesson but the outcome is that students are exposed to the 1st of 4 stimuli from the 2021-2022 stimul from WJEC Eduqas drama. This resource is easily adaptable to suit your style of teaching. I have a lot of home learning and socially distant resources on my page for all secondary school years. I have resources on all 4 stimuli and have created a bundle

This lesson is a home learning/ live lesson for devised work with the new stimuli for WJEC Eduqas stimuli for 2022. The lesson is very easily adaptable and involves students doing a lot of discussion, but can develop this into research tasks for their own individual focuses. I have lots of home learning and socially distanced lesson plans

Frantic Assembly Reverse Movement Social Distanced workshop

This technique is a simple but effective string of movements to establish relationships between characters in the passing of time. It can be done with individuals maintaining social distancing whilst effectively exploring an interesting concept. Frantic used this in their production of Tiny Dynamite. This is ideally for A level students doing devised work, but it can be tailored to GCSE students too. I have loads of socially distanced lessons if you’re doing practical work with practitioners/ Machinal.

KS3 resource booklet distance learning/ isolation work

This resource has general tasks set that are easily adapted to any topic in drama. There are a series of different tasks that students can work through independently. The idea is that the student has a limitless budget and is in charge of a theatre company. They have to oversee the technical choices as well as considering their school topic/ play they are currently studying. There is a total of 8 different tasks in this booklet and will easily cover a 2 week isolation period. This can be done handwritten or electronically. Suitable for years 7-9. (Lower Year 10 possibly)

KS3 Theatre Review lesson Home Learning/ Isolation work/ Remote Learning

This resource is a lesson focused on writing an introduction to a theatre review. Students have to find out information of a particular production (example is Peter Pan in lesson) based on questions. They then have to complete other tasks, resulting in them writing their own introduction. Great for developing literacy skills in lockdown. It also includes voice instructions to aid access for those who struggle with reading. Easily adaptable for Year 8 or 9 I have lots of home learning resources on my page.
Drama Paragraph Structure Hard to Swallow Mark Wheeller

Drama Paragraph Structure Hard to Swallow Mark Wheeller

This lesson aims to address the problem of students not linking an explicit contextual factor into paragraph writing. I follow the WJEC Eduqas exam board for drama but this could also be used in English too. This lesson was produced with the purpose of adopting the principles of WALKTHRUs (Tom Sherrigton and Oliver Caviglioli) for good teaching. This structure is aimed at KS4 students. It contains lots of resources and principles that I use as well as a Socrative quiz (you can delete as appropriate).

Hard to Swallow Pub Quiz Revision task

This quiz is designed for a double lesson or 100 minute lesson, covering all bases for the written GCSE WJEC Eduqas paper. On the tables of the groups I would place crisps and apple juice to give more of a ‘Pub Quiz’ feel, rather than just a test. My students loved this idea and preferred it a lot more that just a typical quiz.

Limitless Budget social distance/ isolation/ home learning resource

This resources is a booklet with several different tasks in that is left open to the topic that you are studying. This can be used in Drama/ English (if studying plays or literature). If students are currently off school and are isolating, this can be set over 2 lessons where they complete every single task to do with a given topic (chosen by the teacher). They can complete this electronically or by printing and completing by hand. It is also my ‘go - to’ for cover work if I’ve not got anything up my sleeve. I have lots of socially distanced workshops and lessons if you would care to browse.

This lesson is a costume lesson that allows students to independently work from home, focusing on what to include in a description for a written paragraph. There are voice recordings on the slides to talk through what the students need to know for each slide. This is great to set for a class if they have to isolate.
