This bundle contains 3 week-long literacy units aimed at year 2. The three units cover historical figures from the KS1 history curriculum: Florence Nightingale Mary Seacole Edith Cavell They could be used separately or in conjunction with each other to form a historical comparison. All three units follow a similar pattern. The first two lessons in each unit are comprehension lessons. The third lesson allows for vocabulary building through drama and written activities. The fourth and fifth lessons are writing and editing lessons. Children learn to write a diary, a letter and a newspaper report. Each of the units include a pdf plan and non-editable PowerPoint. This resource is designed to use with year 2 children in preparation for the SPaG SATs. The activity allows children to practise word class problems; a topic which has appeared a number of times in past SPaG papers. There are 5 different activities, all based on the SATs questions: One activity asks children to tick whether they think the underlined word in a sentence is a noun, verb, adjective or adverb. There are 5 worksheets with six questions on each. One activity asks children to circle nouns in a sentence, progressing from one noun up to three, with six sets of ten questions. One activity asks children to circle adjectives in a sentence, progressing from one adjective up to two, with four sets of ten questions. One activity asks children to circle adverbs in a sentence. There are two sheets of ten questions. One activity asks children to circle verbs in a sentence, progressing from one verb up to two, with four sets of ten questions. Answers are included.

An enjoyable five day poetry unit to use with KS1 during the summer term. During the unit, children have the opportunity to read, study and learn two poems; one about water and one about the beach. They take a seasonal walk on day 3, in which they gather vocabulary, before spending two days writing their own poetry. All activities are engaging and interactive and allow children to work as a whole class, in groups, pairs and individually. As well as gaining experience of poetry, they also spend time learning about verbs. Everything you need to teach the unit is included in the price.
