A 2 page handout on postcard writing in French. Well laid out and easy to follow. Different key phrases are laid out under headings e.g. accommodation, weather, present tense activities, past tense activities etc... A go-to handout for postcard writing. Perfect for Irish junior cert higher level and can easily be amended for ordinary level too.

A complete lesson based on food which can be used to consolidate students’ understanding of the vocab, to facilitate group work/class activity and which also serves as an oral exercise. First document is a survey where students have to walk around the class trying to find other students who like/hate/are allergic to certain foods. The questions must be asked and answered in French. Where the survey is complete, the students are given the worksheet. Here they have to categorize the food items under headings (start/main course/dessert) and also have to write answers to 4 French questions as if they were ordering food in a French restaurant. Students like this lesson as it gives them a chance to get up and move around the class. Suitable for all age groups/levels.

A written piece based on pastimes in the format of a letter. English questions follow. Can be used as homework or in class. Useful for assessing students vocab and also to revise letter format and key phrases for letter.

A 15 slide PPT presenting 14 French idioms/phrases e.g. to go off in a huff, to put the foot down, to grab a bite to eat. Each idiom is useful for the students' written exercises for example the diary entry. Comes with a worksheet in which students have to translate sentences using these idioms, from English to French. Also very useful when studying passé compose as most sentences on the worksheet are to be conjugated in the past tense.

A 2 page worksheet based around clothes and colours in French. Will help students to learn the vocab. Includes translation exercises, reading/learning task & small written tasks using agreements. Could be used as a work sheet, homework or exam.

A lesson based on the possessive adjectives in French. Firstly, I use a word document which displays the possessive adjectives in an easy to follow grid. I copy this and distribute to students for their folder/hard back copy or alternatively, it could be projected and taken down. The second document is a word doc worksheet on which the students can practice what they've learned by filling the missing possessive adjective into each sentence. This is a starter worksheet and so, I have noted on it whether the noun is masc/fem'/plural. The final document is another cloze test that could be used for homework, in class or for an exam. Students must insert the correct possessive adjective in the blank space and then must translate each sentence from French to English.

Two worksheets based on ‘La Météo’- The French Weather Forecast. Each worksheet has a map of France and a simple weather forecast. Students work in pairs to read the description written on their page to their partner. Their partner must listen carefully and draw weather symbols/temperatures etc on the weather map on their own page. Then swap roles. This activity allows the students to practice their oral skills as well as their listening skills. It also allows them to practice key weather phrases and compass points in French. A worksheet based on Belgian singer/songwriter Angele. The worksheet begins with a short comprehension followed by English questions. This gives an overview of her life and how she got into music. Second exercise is based on her song ‘Tout Oublier’. Students must watch the music video and put the images from the video in the correct order. Finally, there are selected words from the lyrics of the song and students must catagorize the words e.g. an adverb, a past participle, an infinitive verb etc… I use this resource with my TY classes as Angele is very current. Detailed notes based on 'le formulaire'/filling in an application form- which appears in the Ordinary Level Leaving Cert exam. Includes notes on short and long questions and also translations of key question words.

Five resources based on francophone artist Stromae. I use these resources in my Transition Year module and also with my ordinary level leaving cert classes. First is a worksheet and youtube link. Students watch an interview (in English) with Stromae and must note in English as many interesting points as they can. They then have to use the facts/info to make 8 sentences in French about Stromae (can be done individually or as a pair activity a good opportunity to use dictionaries). Listening activity in the form of a gapfill exercise using the lyrics of ‘Formidable’. A word bank can be given to facilitate differentiation if needed. The next activity and worksheet are based on the song Papaoutai. Firstly, there is a listening activity where the lyrics (printed in the larger font) are laminated and cut up into small chunks of text. Students work together in groups to listen to the song and re-order the lyrics correctly. This listening task is followed with the worksheet which takes a closer look at the lyrics. Students are asked to find different types of words/grammar in the text (e.g. an infinitive verb, an adverb etc…), then have to catagorize positive and negative adjectives and finally have to translate some potentially new words from the lyrics. There are two lyric sheets here for both of the songs mentioned about that can be used for a sing-a-long class activity (Students love it!) . Final worksheet is adapted from an authentic text (le Figaro) and is a quickfire interview with the artist. Accompanied by English comprehension questions. A 9 slide PPT which presents 'plurals' in French. The PPT firstly explains regular plurals, gives examples and has an exercise to follow. It then explains irregular plurals and again gives examples and has an exercise. Also explains how to change the definite and indefinite article. Transitions and animations are already included.

A short 7 slide PowerPoint Presentation based on prepositions. Explains what a preposition is and focuses on prepositions of time/when to use them. Also included is a list of most useful/common prepositions in English which students can translate using a dictionary or you can go through in class. Final document is a worksheet with translations English-French.
