This is an English Reading lesson activity that was used for a Year 1 / 2 class for an ECT interview. The activity was based on the book Dragon Post and was a prediction lesson. This lesson is aimed at around 30 minutes. The book Dragon Post will be needed for this lesson.
Within this pack there is:
A lesson plan for the lesson activity with assessment for learning opportunities and opportunities for progression with higher ability children. The lesson plan highlights previous knowledge (year 2 children using prediction in year 1), National Curriculum links, Learning objective, Success criteria, introduction, direct teaching, independent task, plenary and assessment points. The lesson plan is fully editable.
A learning objective with success criteria suitable for a mixed year 1 / 2 class due to link to the National Curriculum.
A “word bucket” for children to access spellings with phonics set 2 and 3 sounds identified. The word bucket is fully editable.
A powerpoint used in the lesson. The slides include: a slide to show the learning objective and success criteria, a prediction slide which shows question prompts after reading part of the story, a slide which has stem sentences to help children with writing their prediction, an assessment for learning opportunity slide to add the subordinating conjunction because into their sentences.
Lesson used as part of an interview suitable for a Year 3/4 class. I received great feedback for this lesson.
A prediction lesson using an illustration from the book ‘Journey’ by Alex Becker.
This resource includes:
A lesson plan
Word Bank
Sentence stems for predictions
PowerPoint for the lesson
L.O - To predict what might happen next using illustrations.
I used one image from the story due to the time I had in my interview but this lesson could be tailored to include more illustrations depending on the time that you have.
Interview English Reading Activity Year 3/4 Class.
Based on looking at the front cover and title of the book Journey by Aaron Becker.
I have another 30 minute Reading Activity interview lesson for the same year group based on the same book in my shop
I completed this activity for a Year 3/4 as part of an interview for a teacher job. I had 15 minutes but this activity would be better suited for 20 minutes and can be adapted for a 30 minute reading lesson or longer.
Included in this lesson activity is:
Lesson presentation with the “L.O- To predict what might happen using the title and illustrations”
Word Bank with key words
Sentence Stems
Lesson Plan for the activity
Last slide of the presentation is the front cover without the title that can be printed for the “what can you see activity?”
Worksheet for the activity “what do you predict the story is going to be about?” and then “now you have seen the front cover, can you add more detail to your predictions?”
This resource contains 3 sheets:
1 x Long oo
1 x Long i
1 x ur
Each sheet has 20 words that can be used to write in the correct sound for each sound family.
Plastic Pollution Planning Sheet and Non-Chronological Report Template
These resources were made for an English lesson (curriculum links to Eco school) where the children researched, planned and wrote a non-chronological report on plastic pollution.
This resource contains:
A word document with 2 pages. This is the plastic pollution planning template. One page has headings for the children to use to guide their research. I have also added another table with headings that can be added by the children (High ability children or older year groups who can have more independence when thinking of their headings for their Non-chronological report.
A 2 page PDF file that can be used when the children come to write their non-chronological report. I have aimed this resource at my year 2 English class but you may wish to use for other year groups as appropriate. On the 2 page PDF, there is space for a title, subheadings, and pictures as well as smaller boxes for did you know? facts.
I designed the PDF on an A3 template so should be ready to go as A3 when printed.
