Nazi Germany Revision lesson 1 (From Weimar problems to the popularity of the Nazi Party)
This is a revision lesson to look through some of the events in the Nazi Germany such as Hitler becoming a Chancellor (exam question wit success criteria and peer-assessment help slide), Versailles Treaty (video and a task), problems faced by the Weimar Governemnt (video and a task) and a source-based exam question asking students to explain why people supported the Nazi party. The latter also has an example (see file attached). I have also included a settler and a Team Challenge activity (see file attached) that asks students to answer the questions . I usually give one sheet to each table and set the rewards for the ones who will finish it first.
Was Hitler successful in fighting Depression?
This lesson is about the evaluation of Hitler's success in fighting the economic problems. This lesson includes a stand-up question in the beginning that I use to check whether anyone remember's anything from the week before, a settler, a starter (examination practice), Ask a question! activity (students have to ask each other a question in each others exercise books, change back, answer and peer/ self assess it), All Read Round Robin on the success of Hitler's policies (handout with some info attached separately - can be used as a worksheet) and a peer-assessment of the last task as a plenary. And... Food for thought on the quote by A. Hitler!
The Night of the Long Knives
These are two lessons about the Night of the Long Knives. I have included two of them because we actually did both lessons but omitted one of the activities do it is the same in both lessons. Basically pix and mix if you want!
Both lessons include different settlers and starters (WJEC exam questions) and a some information on the SA and the Night of the Long Knives together with analysing its impact and the overview of the Hitler's road from Chancellor to Fuhrer. I sued quite a few videos which I included either amongst the files or by way of establishing a YouTube link.

Hitler Youth
This is a lesson on the topic of Hitler Youth. It starts with a relaxing settler, then continues onto a scrabble starter (children love it!), Learning outcomes, ask a question (use the table on the slide afterwards to give examples for the questions), an information slide about main youth groups, activity slide (with a link to a video and tasks on the basis of the same) and a revision task not to forget the keywords!
Women in Nazi Germany
This lesson is about the women in Nazi Germany. I have also included two printouts for the activities to simplify the completion of the task.
Lesson includes the code starter (with a legend - it is really fun once you know how to quickly create them!), exam question for a starter (see pptx print out attached), model answer for the latter, peer-assessment slide, learning grid activity (you would probably need to print this one out as they can play it as a board game, asking each other question on the topic), a differentiated spider diagram activity based on the video and a 'blind date' activity related to the topic (see docx worksheet which I have taken from elsewhere so it will also be attached in the free uploads). The lesson is finalised by a 'draw and label' plenary activity on Nazi women and a food for thought slide!
How successful were Hitler's social policies?
This lesson is about the success of Hitler's policies regarding childbirth and women. The lesson includes a settler, a starter (exam question), a model answer for the latter featuring success criteria, followed by a peer-assessment slide, learning task grid (better to print it out - you will need some dices as well!), an activity with classifying the statements as successful or not and a slide with an 8 mark exam question (see handout), model answer with success criteria highlighted and a source-analysis plenary task. Finally, I have finished the lesson with a Food for thought slide, as usually.
How successful were Hitler Youth policies?
This lesson is created to help students to evaluate the success of Hitler Youth policies in Nazi Germany. The lesson begins with a settler, exam question as a starter, model answer and success criteria, peer assessment slide and a SPAG control exercise (students exchange exercise books to check each other), Hitler your posters comparison, All Read Round Robin activity related to reading the sources of people who were involved in the Hitler Youth activities, and an example of a Maths exercise from the Maths book to discuss the propaganda influence on education. The handout to help out with the exam question and reading the sources in the end of the presentation (one of them is in bigger font for SEN).
Holocaust Revision / Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
This resource is based on the fact that students are watching the movie named above and the teacher is stopping it to ask the questions and students answer the same. The lesson includes a settler, homework reminder (I tend to ask for the same to be completed in the google classroom), Learning Outcomes, slide with some questions (you can find the timings for the scenes online), Oracy activity, Ask a question (read the instructions on the slide, I use it quite often and question starters are provided on the next slide), mini-plenary and a 'Make your own Quiz Quiz Trade' slide in case you have some time left. This lesson can be broke into several lessons, depending whether you have time to watch it all at once.
Education in Nazi Germany
These are two lessons (one is modified for a different group - beginning is slightly different) on the topic of Education in Nazi Germany. The lessons include such activities as settler, starter, exam question with a model answer and success criteria as well as a research task (using book / internet) together with some revision exercises such as Quiz-Quiz-Trade and Keywords revision. I also enclose a handout that I use to print for the students so they do not read the sources from the board.
Victorian Britain - 5 lessons
This is a collection of 5 lessons on Victorian Britain. We have discussed living conditions, Workhouses, crime and punishment, prisons and schools. All lessons are based on COPA approach (content, origin, purpose, audience) with the task to analyse the source being the main one.
All lessons contain settlers and kagan activities.
Nazi Germany: Great Depression and the end of parliamentary democracy
The lesson for GCSE History about the Development of the Nazi Party, for instance, the impact of the Great Depression, The Bruning, Von Papen and Schleicher Coalitions, an exam question and a usual Plenary and Food for thought. I am usually using the WJEC book and a revision guide as an additional resource in case they need a reference or a mean to get 'unstuck' when completing an exam question task. They are also using it to draw a timeline / summarise main facts via spider diagram. I have used Section 7.2 of the Revision Guide in this instance.
Medieval England - 5 lessons
This is a collection of 5 lessons on Medieval England that I teach in my school. We discussed life in villages and towns, Black Death, its consequences and crime and punishment.

2. The Rise of the Nazi Party - Munich Putsch
Two lessons for GCSE History about the Rise of the Nazi Party, featuring some major facts from the early DAP, Munich Putsch, an exam question, a worksheet with Peer Assessment, a Plenary (SMSC) and Food for Thought slide with few useful links and a quote by Hermann Goering. There are two lesson simply because I was slightly changing them for y10 and y11 at the time, they are similar, but there is a different exam question which you may want to change in case you are using different exam board / specification.
The worksheet was definitely taken from TES, for which I would like to say thank you for a great idea.
I will put the worksheet out separately for free under the name 'Was the Munich Beer Hall Putsch a success of a failure?' for whoever wants to use it.
3 lessons - How has religion affected life of people in Tudor England?
These are three KS3 lessons about:
1. General attitude to religion in Tudor / Medieval England;
2. English Reformation
3. Religious Rollercoaster - motivational triggers in the end - creating / drawing a rollercoaster in relation to change of religion in Tudor England.
I have mostly used the BBC Horrible Histories videos as I find them quite useful and children really like them.
I am also including COP(A) task in nearly every lesson and peer assessment related to the same.
Popularity of the Nazi Party
This is the the lesson following the Development of the Nazi Party for GCSE History. It has a settler, starter (short exam question), a QQTrade activity, Ipad research slide (I just give them an Ipad / Chromebook to search for the information but you can also give them a book or a document with information to complete the task on the election of success of the Nazi Party). There is also an activity with a video about Hitler becoming a chancellor, an exam question, a plenary and Food for Thought. The printout for the exam question activity is the last slide of the presentation.
Consolidation of Nazi Power
This lesson is about the Consolidation of the Nazi power. It includes some exam practice, Quiz-Quiz trade activity (see worksheet attached) and an Ipad research activity with a true/ false plenary. In my experience, when you cannot book the Ipads or any other resources, you can have a look for a useful information on the internet and print a page for students to find the answers.
Nazi Political Control: Fear
This lesson is on the topic of Nazi Control by way of fear. The lesson starts with a settler and continues with a starter (exam question with a success criteria and some tips as well as a model answer, peer assessment and SPAG control slides), Learning Outcomes, Team challenge slide (I usually print one for each table, asking them to compete with other tables), a Fear diagram and a Round Robin activity to discuss the same. Finally, I ended this lesson with an Oracy task designed to discus the quote by Adolf Hitler. I have also included the Team Challenge answers in the end of the presentation.
Nazi Police State
This is the lesson on the Nazi Police State. It includes a settler, a starter (Scrabble activity), Learning outcomes slide, information research slide with a structure of the Nazi State (with some tasks organised as CEK plus extension task), source analysis task (oral - describing the Nazi Propaganda poster), exam question based on the same poster (with success criteria and a model answer, peer assessment and SPAG activities) and plenary introducing discussion on Pastor Martin Niemoller's famous quote.
Nazi policies to address economic problems
This lesson is about
The lesson includes a settler, and exam question (WJEC, as usually), All Speak Round Robin activity of the economic problems in Nazi Germany and an I-pad research slide on the ways HIler tried to address the economic problems of the country at the time. As per my previous lessons, it is very easy to adapt 'I-pad research' slide to your needs by providing them with a reference to the pages in the book or by printing some summary out (I like using BBC Bitesize). I then finished the lesson with a 'Keywords' plenary which you can organise however you prefer.
Reichstag Fire
This lesson is about the Reichstag Fire and Enabling Act. You have probably noticed that I like including activities whereby students are researching the topic themselves and revise some of the past themes. This lesson includes a settler, WJEC- style exam question, Peer-Assessment, Ipad Research slide with instructions, a source worksheet (available for free as well because I think I could have used someone's worksheet to create this one), a plenary to revise some dates / events (I used BBC bitesize to prepare this one) a food for thought slide.
