Radical Equations - Partner Activity

(0)
This is an engaging and collaborative partner activity on solving radical equations. There are two problem pages/slides. Each page/slide consists of four sections. In each section partners are given a radical equation involving one or two parameters. Partners have to solve the equation for given value(s) of the parameter(s). Partner A will solve the equation for one value(s) of the parameter(s) and partner B will solve the same equation for another value(s) of the parameter(s). As the students obtain similar equations in each section they can help each other with methods. There are included equations with extraneous solutions. This product can be completed individually as well. Some of the problems (for instance the problems of partner A) can be solved as classwork and the other (the problems of partner B) can be solved as homework. Students can record their answers on the next two pages/slides in tables. Answer key pages/slides are two and they are contained at the end of this document. NOTE: This product is created as a Google Slides product. I have converted it to PDF item here. I have included 2 PDF files - the one has each slide as a page and the other has two slides on a page for easy and more economic printing!

The problems increase in difficulty with each next slide. Here are the type of the equations included: 1 and 2 slides/pages) Radical = Number (the radicand is linear function) 3 and 4 slides/pages) Radical = Number (the radicand is quadratic function) 5 slide/page) Radical = Radical ( the one radicand is linear and the other radicand is quadratic function) 6 slide/page) Radical = Linear Function (the radicand is quadratic function) 7 and 8 slides/pages) Radical + or - Radical = Number (the radicands are linear functions) This product can be also used for independent practice having 4 different forms, extra practice and homework. Answer keys are included. NOTE: This product is created as a Google Slides product. I have converted it to PDF item here. I have included 2 PDF files - the one has each slide as a page and the other has two or three slides on a page for easy and more economic printing!

Logarithmic Equations of Type log(base a)(kx+n)=b - "Find the Names of 12 Brightest Stars" Activity

(0)
This is a fun activity on logarithmic equations level 1. Students are asked to solve 12 logarithmic equations of the type log with base a from (kx+n)=b, where a,b,k and n are constants. Then students search for their answers in a table with names of astronomical objects (stars, asteroids, satellites, comets) corresponding to given numbers. Finding their answers students also find the names of 12 brightest stars. Students record the number of the problem matching it with its answer in a small text box provided. I have included the answer key and two tables with extra information for the teacher to inform students (if they are interested) what object is behind each name they have met in the table with answers. NOTE: This product is created as a Google Slides product. I have converted it to PDF item here. I have included 2 PDF files - the one has each slide as a page and the other has two or three slides on a page for easy and more economic printing!

(0)
This is fruits themed maze on solving exponential equations using natural logarithms. Students start solving and use each answer to navigate through the maze. Students will need to solve 12 problems properly to complete the maze. The maze has two ends, one is the true end. This is made with the purpose students to hesitate what is the true way until they solve the eleventh problem. The solution of the 12th equation is clear without solving. Students can draw a line to display their answer path. There is included a page/slide with a table where students can record at least three rows of the solution of each problem to show the most important part of their work. I have also included a slide-sample how students can do this. Answer key is included. NOTE: This product is created as a Google Slides product. I have converted it to PDF item here.

Logarithmic Equations - Partner Activity

(0)
This is a collaborative and engaging partner activity on logarithmic equations of the following types: ▸ log(base b) f(x) + log(base b) g(x) = c ▸ log(base b) f(x) - log(base b) g(x) = c where b and c are constants and f(x) and g(x) are linear functions involving a parameter a . (Students are given the values of the parameter so they will NOT solve a parametric equation). There are possible extraneous solutions so students have to determine the domain of the logarithmic functions for each equation. Activity Directions: There are 10 sections as in each section partners have to solve a logarithmic equation involving the parameter a for two different given values of the parameter. This is a wonderful way for students to work on different, but similar problems and it encourages them to help each other with methods. Student recording sheet and answer keys are provided.

Logarithmic Equations with the Same Solution - Group Activity

(0)
This is a collaborative and challenging group activity to practice solving logarithmic equations. Students will apply the properties of logarithms: • One - To - One Property • Product Rule • Quotient Rule There are given six groups logarithmic equations of different types ( total of 24 equations). Most of the equations need to be transformed from logarithmic to exponential form. There are included equations with common and natural logarithms. Extraneous solutions are possible. Activity Directions: Each member of a group is asked to choose one of the equations from group A to solve it. Then members are instructed to search for one and only equation of each of the other groups of logarithmic equations which has the same solution as their own initially chosen equation of group A. A proposal strategy for a group of 4 to handle this task: each partner solves one equation of each group and then members sort the equations into groups according their solutions. Students solve equations on a separate sheet of paper and then show solutions to the equations having the same root on the recording sheets provided. Answer keys are included.

Exponential & Logarithmic Equations - Self-Checking Practice (with Hints)

(0)
This is an engaging and self-checking teachers themed practice on exponential and logarithmic equations. The problem pages/slides are eight. On each slide/page students are given one exponential equation to solve for x and one logarithmic equation to solve for y, students are also given a hint - a system with two variables as it is known that the roots of the equations satisfy this system. Students can solve the system or just substitute the values of x and y they have obtained in it to check whether their work is correct. (Each equation and system are thought to have only solution! Some logarithmic equations have extraneous solutions. Systems are linear, nonlinear, consisting of exponential and logarithmic equations and containing radical equations ). There is also a table provided where students can record their answers. Students can work individually or in pairs to complete this activity. Answer key is contained at the end of this document. NOTE: This product is created as a Google Slides product. I have converted it to PDF item here. I have included 2 PDF files - the one has each slide as a page and the other has two or three slides on a page for easy and more economic printing!

Exponential and Logarithmic Equations - Thanksgiving Cards For Partners (48 problems)

(0)
These are 12 Thanksgiving task cards for partners – a total of 48 problems in which students will practice solving exponential and logarithmic equations. There are one exponential (equation A) and one logarithmic equation(equation B) on each card. The equations involve a parameter. Students are asked to solve each of the equations A and B for two given different values of the parameter. Thus, students have four problems per card – problems Aa, Ab, Ba and Bb. Students can work in pairs (partner activity) or in groups of three and four (group activity). The equations require the use of logarithms and exponentials as inverses. Exponential equations include problems that can be solved using a common base along with problems that require logarithms (a^x=b and a^(cx +d) = b, where a=b or/and a≠b). Common base problems require combining exponents using laws of exponents. Logarithmic equations include basic logarithmic equations ( log (base a) x = b and log (base a) (cx+d)=b ) and some problems in which students must apply the properties of logarithms (adding and subtracting logarithms). The cards can be used individually as well. The teacher or student can choose which problems to be solved – like problems 1Aa, 2Ba, 3Ab, 4Bb, etc. Student recording sheets and full solutions (handwritten clearly) are included.
