These tests can be used in Algebra 2 and Regular Pre-Calculus class. The product assesses students on properties of logarithms and solving logarithmic equations. There are included common and natural logarithms. All of the equations can be reduced to a linear or quadratic form. Extraneous solutions are possible so students will need to check answers or determine the domain of the respective logarithmic functions. The resource contains multiple choice questions. Included are two different versions along with FULL typed SOLUTIONS to both (14 problems). A recording sheet is provided as well. I have also included engaging homework with pretty answers (14 problems with answer keys).

This is a fun matching activity for students to practice finding the inverse of 2x2 and 3x3 matrices. The inverse of matrix can be found using a formula (for 2x2 matrices), the augmented matrix method and/or the adjoint method ( for 2x2 and 3x3 matrices). The teacher has to decide if students will be permitted to use calculators. There are 8 questions - four 2 x 2 matrices and four 3 x 3 matrices. (All matrices selected have inverses.) Students calculate the inverse of each matrix going with a picture of a boy named. Then they look for their answers in a given table with pictures of girls’ faces and their names and find out who is the girlfriend of each of the boys. If students cut the cells of the tables, they can match the matrices and their solutions. The activity can be used individually or in pairs. Student recording sheets and answer keys are included.

This is a fun and engaging activity on solving radical equations with one and two radicals, equations with extraneous solutions included. There are two problem pages/ slides. On the first page/slide students are given 12 problems as each problem is “accompanied” by a riddle. On the second page/slide there are given the answers of the problems as each answer of a problem is “accompanied” by the answer of the riddle. 12 “false” answers are included to mislead the students if they try to guess the riddles without solving the equations. Students can draw numbered ovals (from 1 to 12) in the fields of the answers they have chosen to be correct. I would make my students show work on this activity. This is an engaging practice on applying the difference of squares formula. It consists of 2 parts as each part contains two tasks. The first part is applying the formula (a - b)(a+b)=a^2 - b^2 to simplify expressions and the second part is applying the formula a^2 - b^2=(a -b)(a+b) to factorize expressions. Detailed description: Part 1 Task 1. Students have to apply the difference of squares formula to simplify 9 expressions (problems level 1). Task 2. Students have to simplify 6 expressions as they will have to multiply binomials and also use the formulas for square of sum and square of difference (problems level 2). Part 2 Task 1. Students have to factorize 9 expressions (problems level 1). Task 2. Students will need to apply the difference of squares formula from left to right and from right to left to solve 6 equations (problems level 2). They will use the square of sum formula once and the square of difference formula also once. The practice sheets give room for students to show work. Answer keys are included.

In this 12 questions - matching game, students will solve systems of linear equations with three variables by elimination and substitution or using Gaussian elimination. Cramer’s Rule is another method that students can use to solve ten of the systems. (There is one system that is consistent and its equations are dependent and one system that is inconsistent). Students find the solution to each of the given systems of equations. Their solutions are written on twelve of 13 fish. When students arrive at a correct answer, they “catch the magic fish” having this answer written on it. It is said that only one fish is not really magic, because it doesn’t fulfill wishes. Students have to find it out. The activity can be used individually, in pairs or in groups of 3 or 4. Student recording sheets and answer keys are included.

In this partner activity students will practice · factoring quadratic binomials and trinomials and then · simplifying rational expressions There are given 8 sections, containing three problems each. The first and second task ask students to factor quadratic polynomials. The third problem requires students to simplify a rational fraction consisting of the polynomials of the previous tasks. Students have already factored the numerator and denominator so they only need to find common factors for the numerators and denominators and simplify. Partners will finally get one and the same answer. Response sheets are provided. (Students can use a separate sheet of paper to write down their solutions and staple them with the response sheets together). Detailed answer keys are included.

These are 26 animal alphabet theme task cards dealing with simplifying and evaluating algebraic expressions. Expressions are of the types ax + b + cx + d (without brackets) and a(x+b)+c(x+d) ( with brackets) where a, b, c and d are integers. Each card contains an expression labeled with a large alphabet letter. After simplifying it , students have to evaluate the expression for a given value of x. Students may sort the cards into groups as in each group there should be included all the cards having the same answer. This product can be used as a group activity. In this collaborative partner activity students will practice simplifying radicals, including square roots only. The problems gradually increase in difficulty. Radicands are whole 2, 3 and 4 –digit numbers. There are 15 sections each containing 2 examples – 1 problems for partner A and one problems for partner B. Students are instructed to simplify the radicals and to do that by inspecting each radicand for a square factor. In each section, partner A/B compares his answer with his partner’s answer. This is an engaging and collaborative partner activity on writing linear equations in slope- intercept form. There are 12 sections as in section 1 Partner A is given two points and Partner B is given a point and slope. In section 2 Partner A is given a point and slope and Partner B is given two points. In section 3 Partner A again is given two points and Partner B is given a point and slope. In section 4 Partner A is given a point and slope and Partner B is given two points… In each section the answer of Partner’s A problem is the same as the answer of Partner’s B problem. Students are instructed to compare their answers and check whether their results match. If their answers don’t match, they work together to figure out what went wrong. In this activity, students will practice solving rational equations resulting in linear and quadratics using three types methods for solving: Cross Multiplying Multiplying by the LCD Factoring to find the LCD This activity includes monomial, binomial, and trinomial denominators. The equations have only rational roots. The problems have a varying degree of difficulty. Activity Directions: There are 20 problems total, separated into two sets. Partners start solving their own set of ten equations by the most appropriate method and check for extraneous solutions. They must determine the common root between each two partners’ corresponding equations. ( For instance, the equations (1a) and (1b) are corresponding and have one common root, similarly the equations (2a) and (2b)… ). Partners record their answers and mark the common roots in a table given OR they record each common root in the area of each pair of intersecting ellipses on a figure given. The amusing part is finding an idiom corresponding to each solution sets of the partners’ quadratic equations labeled with one and the same small alphabetic letter. Activity Directions: Students start solving their own set of twelve equations by the square root method. They are given tables to use. Using table 2, each partner finds which two words correspond to each solution set of his equations. At last partners together rearrange the words corresponding to their equations labeled with one and the same small alphabetic letter and find out an idiom. These are two practice forms A and B containing similar problems on quadratic functions. Each form has eight problems. Problem 1 is finding the leading coefficient of a quadratic function f(x)=ax^2 passing through a given point. Problem 2 is finding the vertex of a given quadratic function. Problem 3 is finding the extrema of a quadratic function on a given closed interval. Problem 4 is determining how many points of intersection have the graphs of two quadratic functions. Problem 5 is finding the range of quadratic function.
