This is the third in a series of 1 hour lessons for Module 3 - plant transport. This lesson covers transport within plants and recaps water potential. I usually carry out an osmosis in aubergines practical. The download includes a detailed Ppt, with integrated tasks, and worksheets.

A lesson designed to illustrate the division of labour within cells using the production and secretion of a protein. Ppt, worksheet, starter and plenary included. Students should work in small groups (possibly with mini white boards) to establish the step by step process which results in the secretion of a protein. Once they have come up with their own ideas they can then attempt to order the statements from the pre-prepared sheet. If this is done correctly students should be able to use previous notes on cell structure to identify the structures involved and the order of the steps. The lesson is finished with a short test as a plenary.

Ppt which consists of learning outcomes, starter and a cell drawing activity. I always get students to draw diagrams from some prepared kidney slides. Students also have a list of rules for making biological drawings. Pupils can then assess each others cellular drawings using their cell drawing rules.
