How to get our students ready for the new GCSE. This lesson is a preparation for Y11 students based on the new French GCSE. Research have been made to find out what exactly our students need to do to succeed next year. This lesson should take about two weeks. The first week should be an explanation of the content of the GCSE and how to get the maximum marks and the week after students will be practising the past papers.

The starter activity is a translation ( preparing students for the new GCSE ). The purpose of this lesson is to introduce the irregular verbs in the past tense. <br /> 4 skills covered. <br /> Whole activity class: Ball game. Students have one minute to say out loud one word and pass the ball to another student ( finding out the irregular verbs in the text). If the ball touches the floor they’ve lost. Give them 3 chances only. Timer on the board... <br /> Students will come up at the end with their own rule on how to form the past tense with irregular verbs.

This lesson is on the past tense using the auxiliary Avoir with regular and irregular verbs. <br /> The do it now task ( to complete in 5 mins when students entering the classroom) is a fill gap activity where students need to come up with the rule on how to form the past tense with Avoir based on the previous lesson ( Present tense and introduction of past tense ). <br /> The stater activity is translation of verbs. <br /> The main activity a whole class activity: 3 main players. Differentiated activity. <br /> Weaker abilities: Player 1 <br /> Higher abilities: Player 3 <br /> Students need to come up with the sentences and take turns, player 3 at the end can snitch other players by creating a sentence in the past tense without using the vocab above. Reward for the winner. <br /> <br /> Last activity is an assessment for learning before the plenary and homework provided.

End of term assessment based on Bébé Lilly song. You will find the song on Youtube. <br /> The first activity is a gap fill of the lyrics. The verbs conjugated in the past tense are provided on the side. Song should be played twice. <br /> In the second activity students write 3 examples of regular forms of past tense and 3 examples of irregular forms of past tense from the lyrics following the example. Then, they will turn the phrases that you have written above staring with she (don’t forget the auxiliary)... <br /> There are 5 activities on the assessment. Should require 40 min. The correction is also included in the package.

Introducing MRS VAN DER TRAMP verbs. <br /> Do it now is a translation activity ( new GCSE) + review of how to form the past tense with Avoir. <br /> Main activity: Under students' desk is placed either a card with some elements of the verb Etre and they have 70 sec. to detach it run to the board and put it in the correct order . Following the conjugation of the auxiliary, a piece of paper with MRS VAN DER TRAMP written on is hidden in the classroom, students will run to find it and have to explain what MRS VAN DER TRAMP is. <br /> At home they will complete the rule on how to form the past tense with MRS VAN DER TRAMP. <br /> This lesson worked very well and students were all engaged throughout the lesson.
