Explore word building for students with this Say It, Join It, Write It activity.

Perfect for EYFS students who are practising word building with CVC words, this activity encourages the children to look at the picture, say the word, then look at the letters and join the ones that build the word.

Students can then copy the word into the frame.

Students can listen carefully to the sounds they hear in each word, as they look at the graphemes they can see in the ‘join it’ section. Ideal for supporting children to develop their word building skills, this activity is great for children to try in phase 2 phonics lessons. Especially at Halloween :)

This is a pdf resource.

Mark Making worksheets are the first steps when teaching children how to write letters

It can help improve their fine motor skills can boost confidence to encourage using a pencil.

To make the activity fun, have children choose a different colour pencil for each section. Sections can by cut out so children can choose any design they want to trace.

This booklet also contains a full traceable alphabet, shapes and numbers that students can progress to.

Using this resource with SEN children:
This resource was designed with my ASD son in mind. He particularly disliked mark making but by cutting out each section, allowing him control over what he would use to trace with (pencils, crayons, felt tips and sometimes finger paints if he needed to) he could engage with the task on his own agenda. Allowing him choices, allowing him to find materials that felt appropriate for him to use ensured he could access the activity.

Ms. Wildflower

This is a great resource for EYFS/KS1 learners.

They are useful as they help your students build a better understanding of their first sounds. They can see different examples of letters of the alphabet and it tests whether your students know what each word begins with. This helps them to work out the sound of the letter.

This activity also boosts their knowledge of sounds. They might have seen one of the pictures names written down and it gets them to associate different alphabetical letters with different images. Having space to write the letter gives your class a head start with spelling too.

There are two versions of this activity; one to trace, for those learners that are still working towards forming their letters correctly and one activity to write, for those learners who can independently form letters correctly.

This is a .pdf resource. If you need it amended to suit your class in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me at mswildflowerteacher@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Louise
