Unofficial exam paper for A Level Psychology Research Methods, 1st set [48 marks]

I have made a set of unofficial exam papers for the Research Methods section of the exam. This is the 1st set. I have made a video to accompany this exam paper showing students how to ‘decode’ the stimulus. The stimulus for this paper is an experiment testing the difference in mood between teachers who play on dance mats for 30 minutes a day for 2 weeks and those that don’t. The exam paper tests: Sampling Limitation of a volunteer sample Hypothesis Direction Hypothesis Writing Pilot Study Control of Extraneous Variables Interpretation of descriptive statistics Justification of a Mann Whitney test Testing for Significance using Critical Values Tables Peer Review Limitation of Peer Review Type 1 Error Aims of a Debrief Design a study (12 marks) Please note that the design a study for this first set is designed to be very much like the stimulus. In the other unofficial exam papers I have written, the design a study sections are a different research method to the one in the stimulus, however, because this is the first set, this one is slightly easier in that it is asking the students to design a study similar to the original, but on students. It does have elements they will need to consider carefully, like how to ensure each participant acts as their control, which obviously has implications for the experimental design they will choose). The mark scheme is comprehensive and should allow for peer marking. It includes a model answer for the 12 mark design a study question. I usually use narrow margins, so if the formatting is out, try changing the margins to narrow. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch via this website or through twitter: @blonde_pretzel or YouTube: Psychology Students. Thank you for looking at my resource.

Sign Test Assessment Activity for AS and A level Psychology

This resource has 2 questions about why we do statistical testing and the reasons for choosing the sign test. The rest of the question give scenarios and the students have to : a) calculate the value of N b) calculate the value of S c) identify and justify whether the calculated value of S is significant. YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE YOUR STUDENTS WITH A CRITICAL VALUES TABLE OF S IN ORDER TO DO PART © OF EACH QUESTIONS. Unfortunately I can not attach one here as it goes against copyright law, however, most text books have a critical values table in it, or you can Google one. If you have any questions, please tweet me or leave a comment here. @blonde_pretzel YouTube: Successful Psychology

Psychological Explanation for Love Bombing followed by Ghosting

Aimed at anyone who has experienced being love-bombed followed by being ghosted (or dumped for no reason). It uses Ainsworth’s ‘Insecure-Resistant’ attachment type to give a possible explanation. It uses the Strange Situation research and is applicable for those studying A Level Psychology, The attachment Unit, but doesn’t include any evaluation. I am making another video and resource specifically on the Strange Situation for A Level Psychology, which is better for students of psychology.

The PowerPoint and handouts accompany a teaching and a revision video on YouTube (search Psychology Students for my channel.) The PowerPoint contains everything for a full 16 mark question on the Psychodynamic Approach. The PowerPoint follows the structure for the essay. There are some YouTube videos embedded (see notes section for links, and/or hover over the pictures) to help understanding of the Psychodynamic Approach. It contains A01, A02 and A03 materials to cover everything for the exam and activities for students to do during class to help consolidation of learning. I reference all my handouts in the header which is why the handouts are labelled below: 04 - PowerPoint with activities embedded for a whole lesson (double lesson, about 2 hours 40 mins) 04a - PowerPoint Activity for students to consolidate learning 04b - PowerPoint of a memory story for easy recall of the 16 mark essay AP08 - a booklet for students to complete at home to help consolidation of learning AP12 - a short answer test (10 minutes recommended) for the start of the next lesson. AP12a - the answer sheet for the short answer test (best to get everyone to mark each other’s straight away to save time for the teacher.) NB I usually have my margins on ‘narrow’ for Word documents. I presume when you download them this will be automatic, but if the formatting seems a bit off, change the margins to narrow and it should be fine.
