This resource has been particularly useful for training pupils to listen during unstudied works, but can be used for works they have to study for GCSE and A levels as a training exercise for exams etc.
This resource gives all the basic resources for a project on sustainability. There is a letter inviting students to design a new school that your headteacher wants to build. There is a list of sustainable elements with prices that your students can use to design the school sustainably. There is also a criteria sheet (which was co-created by students) that they can self and peer assess as they go, and you as the teacher can use as well if you desire. This is a great fun way to assess your students understanding of sustainable design practises.
This activity is designed for use during Transition time from one year to another. It is a great icebreaker for the children to learn about each other, and about where things are kept in their new classroom. I used it at the beginning of the year and it was a great success. You can edit to make it appropriate for the children in your class.
This presentation introduces pupils to the genre of advertising music.
They must use their understanding of music analysis to analyse the examples given - scaffolding questions are asked.
The second activity asks them to create their own advertisement for a particular product - using melody, rhythm, lyrics and basic accompaniment.
This document is a list of the different types of song or instrumental piece that you might find in a Musical.
Useful for a revision hand out or could be used to further explore Musical Theatre.
This is a lesson Flipchart. The Flipchart was made for Active Inspire boards.
This lesson was used with a higher level Year 4 class - real world maths! They had to use their knowledge of odd and even and addition to figure out the barcode trick, and check that the barcodes were written correctly. This was great fun, and really tested some of their skills.
This worksheet provides score examples for pupils to play this style of music working in groups and provides some information about the culture and meaning behind the musical genre/style.
Pupils are given examples of Indonesian Gamelan that can be played on xylophones or glockenspiels, tambourines, cymbals etc.
Then pupils are asked to create their own with template given.
A fun and active lesson.

This lesson is created as a Flipchart for use with Active Inspire software. It works with older versions of Active Inspire.
This flipchart is one that I have used with bi-lingual children to discuss tense, and assess their abilities to change tense in speaking and writing, as well as noticing grammar and punctuation issues. It could work well in any classroom if you are putting a focus on tense and error correcting.
This lesson is written in a flipchart created for use with Active Inspire programming.
This is a lesson that I used to teach the children in my class about algorithms and programs in computing. It is an unplugged lesson, no computers required! It explains how coding works in a child friendly way. I used it with Year 4 at the beginning of our coding topic.
I created this Minions warning chart for my class this year. I printed this in landscape A3 and then printed and laminated little tags with the children's names on - but you could use pegs, or sticky labels as well. This works really well as my children love Minions and we always have a discussion about how some people are heading towards the 'purple' minions. I have used quite strong wording on this chart, as my class can be quite challenging, but you can alter this to use your own, or your schools' preferred language if you like.
This presentation and worksheet is a lesson in itself!
Pupils are given the worksheet with songs and the musical elements on it - and the presentation gives basic information about 5 Early musicals including West Side Story, My Fair Lady and Guys and Dolls.
Pupils listen to each song in turn and use their worksheet to analyse each piece of music.
A great fun lesson!
New! Flipchart has been replaced by a PPTX.
This is a lesson I have used with children who did not work well together in groups. There is discussion about what it means to be a team, they have to define what groupwork is, and there is an exercise which will make a great display (a good reminder if it is placed in the classroom). This could be used if group work behaviour is slipping, or at the beginning of the year to re-enforce the idea of working in teams/groups.
A great way to teach aural skills and rhythm in a fun way.
Works exactly like bingo - make sure pupils have one of the two different sheets - never just do it with one sheet.
First person to get 4 in a row, and stand up and shout BINGO wins.
