ENGLISH VERBS LIST FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS FREEBIE #4
ENGLISCH ESL EFL ENGLISH COMMON VERBS FOR GERMAN-SPEAKING LEARNERS OF ENGLISH English language verb reference resource for German-speaking students focusing on high-frequency English verbs. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference, either in class or at home. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
This list is a fourth collection of 25 high-frequency English verbs that students will meet in the beginning to intermediate stages of English learning programmes. They are common English verbs, so they will see, hear and use the verbs regularly in daily life. They include regular and irregular verbs, and are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize English verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in German - at that point they can move on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning 25 verbs all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English verb vocabulary - embedding the verbs into long-term memory will come through frequent usage.

GERMAN CHRISTMAS VISUAL VOCABULARY LIST FREEBIE
PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY WORDS & PICTURES A great German Christmas picture & vocabulary reference resource for younger learners of German. It works well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
There are 20 common German Christmas words with pictures that I’ve found ideal for children learning German. I’ve used the definite article, with masculine, feminine and neuter - there are some plurals too. I use this to stimulate discussion about gender and forming the plural in German. It’s also great for promoting discussion about***Christmas traditions and practices in Germany, and other German-speaking countries***, comparing them to other Christmas customs with which students are familiar. Over time, I encourage students to add to the list - by the end of their German learning program, they’ll have a comprehensive German Christmas vocabulary bank.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - Christmas colours (which I tend to use as part of a German Christmas display), and blackline snow.

SPANISH NUMBERS 0-21 WORD WALL FREEBIE
PRIMARY SPANISH KS2 SPANISH KS3 SPANISH NUMBERS 0-21 WORD WALL! It’s easy to create an instant introduction to numbers 0-21 in Spanish with this set of word wall cards, featuring beginning numbers that I like to share with my young learners of Spanish. They’re really useful during the introduction phase, and we also use them for developing language skills and awareness in general. We like to do number guessing and calculation games at regular intervals too.
There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the words are definitely big enough for children to be able to read from a range of locations in the classroom. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or black wave. GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER
GCSE GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER a great way of practising, reinforcing and revising how to conjugate all the various verb groups and tenses/moods in German. I use them in a range of learning contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons.
Each workbook is structured as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German : English and English : German
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. Students also note down any new verbs they discover, which enables them to build up a really sound verb vocabulary bank. We also use this to guide our whole-group discussions about conjugation and German grammar, and learning and progress in general - this is a really successful and popular activity.
There are 6 pages in the answer key - for me, answer keys are an essential and integral part of learning with these kinds of workbooks - they give my students an additional opportunity to engage with language.
This sampler demonstrates a range of conjugation challenges, with the answer
key immediately following the relevant conjugation questions. It will definitely give you an idea of what the quick conjugation workbooks look like, and how they are structured, and whether you think they’ll work well for your students.

ITALIAN NUMBERS 0-31 I HAVE, WHO HAS FREEBIE
PRIMARY ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN KS2 ITALIAN Italian Numbers 0-31 Io ho Chi ha? This is a lively & communicative whole-group language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to count from 0 - 31 in Italian. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too.
The aim of the game is to create an Italian number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card zero, and ending with the final card, trentuno. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the game for my young beginner learners, but I’ve also played the game with my adult learners, who really enjoy it too - the monster theme is popular with everyone! The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are starting to familiarize themselves with the written word. Try to print in color if you can - it adds to the visual appeal of the game, which is a real motivator for learning.
Download, print out, laminate, cut out & shuffle the cards. I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I often play too - students really do enjoy it when I join in, and they seem to work that little bit harder on their concentration, reading out loud and pronunciation. Students walk around the room, talking to each other in their best Italian accent, sharing the information on their cards, until they have arranged the numbers in the correct order. The game works best played against a timer, regularly over a longer-term series of lessons - can students beat beat their own time record? I always do some high-speed counting warm-up activities, forwards & backwards, to get everyone ready to play!

BACK TO SCHOOL FRENCH GREETINGS BIENVENUE BUNTING It’s great to create a new look for the new school year - I use bunting not only to create a real French look and feel in the learning environment, but also to promote everyday language and core vocabulary for learners of all ages. ADVANCED GERMAN A LEVEL GERMAN FUTURE PERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced German students who have a sound understanding of conjugation and tense in German, are working regularly with the notion of a range of tenses and mood in German, and have a solid grasp of verbs that are conjugated with either haben or sein in the relevant tenses. It’s actually really useful to introduce the future perfect tense in German fairly closely with the conditional perfect tense, as the patterns are identical, other than the auxiliary tense, and it allows students to compare and contrast the tenses, and to practise both fairly simultaneously - in my experience, students do not confuse or mix up the tenses when they’re learning and using them together… The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs.

PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS Numbers 0-10 and Numbers & Roman Numerals 0-20: 20 differentiated word searches with answer keys : two sets of ten differentiated word searches @ £1.75 each I’ve found that word searches are the ideal activity for young and beginner students of Latin to engage with the written word in Latin, at the same time developing essential beginner Latin vocabulary. They’re really versatile too - great for cover lessons, as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when you’re introducing this particular target language in Latin. They are easily differentiated - and the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grids with arrows.
The focus is on key beginner Latin vocabulary:
Latin numbers 0-10
Latin numbers & Roman Numerals 0-20
In Set 1, There are five Latin-Latin grids - the prompt words are in Latin, and the grid words are also in Latin. Each grid is progressively more challenging. There are also five English-Latin grids - the prompt word is in English, and students have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. On each grid there’s a number list they have to complete too for extra consolidation and practice. The grids are in landscape format.
In Set 2, there are 5 Latin to Latin grids, where learners are prompted with the Latin words, and look for them in Latin in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. Grid 5 increases the challenge by prompting the Latin numbers as gap fills. There are 2 English to Latin grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing in Latin, they also complete the Latin word list on each page. Grid 8. is also Latin to Latin, where learners have to make a simple calculation in order to establish what Latin word they are looking for in the grid, and again they write out the Latin number in a separate column. Grids 9 & 10 prompt with Roman Numerals, and learners also complete the word column in Latin. The grids are in portrait format.
There is an answer key grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are an essential and integral element of the learning activity: they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, also helping them develop more independence in their learning. They genuinely enjoy correcting their own - and especially each others’ work - and they’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing!

The focus is on common separable prefixes such as***ab, an, aus, ein, um*** and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs.
Grammar books are not consistent with grammatical terminology, so in this context, the conditional perfect is I would have opened or I would have got up for example. I’ve used hätte & past participle or wäre & past participle as ich würde aufgemacht haben or ich würde aufgestanden sein are no longer commonly used in the way that ich hätte aufgemacht or ich wäre aufgestanden are for example. The conjugation is structured in the same way as the Konjunktiv II Plusquamperfekt, which is often called the pluperfect subjunctive in English grammatical terminology, though of course, the usage is different.

PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN NUMBERS 0-21 WORD WALL I like to display key vocab in my language learning classrooms - word walls are a simple and effective way of doing that - this set offers an instant introduction to numbers 0-21 in German. We use them for number guessing and calculation games as well as quick vocab and spelling quizzes too.
There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the words are definitely big enough for children to be able to read from various locations in the classroom, so that we can really make the most of our learning display - we do lots of mental maths, spelling and vocab games, as well as pronunciation practice for example. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag or black wave. I always laminate/print my word walls on robust card stock - they last for absolutely years!

SPANISH NUMBERS 0-31 I HAVE WHO HAS FREEBIE
PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH NUMBERS 0-31 Tengo ¿Quién tiene? This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to count from 0 - 31 in Spanish. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too.
The aim of the game is to create a Spanish number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card cero, and ending with the final card, treinta y uno. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the game for my young beginner learners, but I’ve also played the game with my adult learners, who really enjoy it too - the monster theme is popular with everyone! The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are starting to familiarize themselves with the written word. Try to print in color if you can - it adds to the visual appeal of the game, which is a real motivator for learning.
Download, print out, laminate, cut out & shuffle the cards. I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I often play too - students really do enjoy it when I join in, and they seem to work that little bit harder on their concentration, reading out loud and pronunciation. Students walk around the room, talking to each other in their best Spanish accent, sharing the information on their cards, until they have arranged the numbers in the correct order. The game works best played against a timer, regularly over a longer-term series of lessons - can students beat beat their own time record? I always do some high-speed counting warm-up activities, forwards & backwards, to get everyone ready to play!

GCSE FRENCH IDIOMS French Speaking Practice Encouraging students to speak can be quite challenging in the languages classroom, and I’ve found that even my more advanced learners can be quite reluctant, especially if the group is fairly large. I use a range of strategies to promote speaking, and idioms, proverbs and fun expressions which sound quite strange when translated literally are really popular - for example, we have regular competitions to see who can get the most idioms or expressions into dialogues and conversations. This works really well for students of all stages and ages. The posters show the literal translation, which generally sounds very odd, such as this particular idiom C’est pas tes oignons ! - It it not your onions! and the correct corresponding translation. We also discuss other possible translations into English, which helps them understand the concept of translation, and that there are potentially many correct ways of expressing meaning accurately. The posters also lend the learning environment a real French ambiance, promoting the everyday use of French.
There are two backgrounds - the French flag looks great, but definitely uses a lot of ink, so you may prefer the poster without a background - this looks just as good! Keep checking back for more posters if you like them, as I have a huge collection!

GERMAN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS #1
PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN ANIMALS DEUTSCHE TIERE FLASHCARDS POSTERS These German animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous German look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of German. They introduce learners to a range of animals in German from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how German words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. My younger German students really love the animals posters, and like to compare the German and English words. I’ve found that they also help very young children develop their growing understanding of the animal kingdom. We don’t necessarily learn all the animals, but we do use them for pronunciation and speaking practice, and for memory games too. Students definitely notice the different words for the, and ask why some animals are der, and others are die or das. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender.
Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating.
There are 20 animals using the masculine, feminine and neuter definite article, which again is a great opportunity to begin to compare German and English, looking particularly closely at capitalization of nouns. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as Bär and Wolf.
The animals are:

There are two sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters, two backgrounds to choose from: animal footprint or German flag. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely remain in excellent condition for years.
