PRIMARY LATIN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS

(0)
PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These Latin animals flashcards / display posters create a fabulous Latin look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Latin as a real language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Latin. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Latin from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarise themselves with how Latin words ‘look’, and how they are represented in the written form. My younger Latin students really love the animals flashcards / posters, and when we look for cognates and near-cognates, they really like to compare the Latin and English words. I’ve found that they also help very young children develop their growing understanding of the animal kingdom. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are 20 masculine, feminine and neuter animals. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as ursus and lupus. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: ***bear : bee : bird : butterfly : cat : dog : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : rabbit : spider : squirrel : turtle / tortoise : wolf *** There are two sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters: one with a colour background, the second with an animal footprint background, so 40 posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last for years! Have a browse in my store for more Latin flashcards / classroom display, and a wide range of other Latin teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! PRIMARY SPANISH FRUITS FLASHCARDS POSTERS

PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 FRUITS CLASSROOM DISPLAY POSTERS My younger students love to see Spanish displays in the classroom, and they also work really well for older beginner Spanish learners too. There are25 fruits, definite article, feminine and masculine, singular and plural - that’s so useful as a way into the concept of gender. I tend to vary my displays quite regularly, and have different posters up at various times of the school year. We use them as speaking and pronunciation prompts, and for guessing, vocab and spelling games too. We don’t actually learn 25 fruits at this stage, but I use a range that includes some that children may not know yet, such as starfruit and redcurrants. That’s ideal for discussing healthy eating, and for generally developing children’s vocabulary in their own language too. The posters work really well as flashcards too, and they’re great for introducing and practicing language with a ‘low-tech’ method, giving us all a break from the whiteboard, which children definitely enjoy! The fruits are: green apples red apple bananas cherries dates fig green grapes red grapes kiwi lemon mango nectarine olives oranges papaya peach pear pineapple pumpkin raspberry redcurrants rhubarb starfruit strawberries watermelon The posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or black wave. There are two non-editable files in a zipped format. They’re copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. PRIMARY FRENCH HALLOWEEN NUMBERS 0-20 GAMES CARDS

Primary French FSL French Immersion These French Numbers 0-20 Halloween games cards are great for practising numbers in French with a focus on addition and subtraction - they also offer a really useful opportunity for multi-skill and cross-curricular learning. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. My younger learners really love to work with the cards, and we play as often as we can in the run-up to Halloween. There are lots of games they like to play, and I’ve described several of them in the resource file. I always do a quick warm-up and recap of numbers before we play any number games, and the simple forwards and backwards counting presentation is ideal for this. There are 72 calculations in total - 36 addition and 36 subtraction. The answer cards are marked with a plus or minus sign. This means that there are 144 cards in total - it’s quite a bit of prep, but do laminate them if you can, as they are far more user-friendly, and also last for many Halloweens! FRENCH CLOTHES FLASHCARDS POSTERS

PRIMARY FRENCH KS2 FRENCH KS3 FRENCH CLOTHES FLASHCARDS POSTERS instant introduction to 20 clothes items in French. The fashcards / posters also give the learning environment a fabulous*** French*** look and feel, promoting French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your learners. They also help learners familiarise themselves with both the ‘look’ of French words, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The target language features singular and plural nouns with the indefinite / partitive article, some with colour and adjectival agreement, which is a great opportunity to begin to compare French to other languages learners may speak or know. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from, other languages, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts, and how adjectives may change according to gender and number. This is really useful for both current and later learning. It doesn’t matter if some of the items don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards / posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts. The 20 nouns are: cap * coat * dress * glasses * gloves * hat * jacket * jeans * jersey / jumper / pullover * scarf * schoolbag / rucksack * shirt * shoes * skirt * sneakers / trainers * socks * sunglasses * T-shirt * tie * trousers There are four poster headers: les vêtements, Qu’est-ce que tu portes ?, Qu’est-ce que tu as ? and Qu-est-ce que c’est ? The labels/answers correspond to the question format. This really does help to promote speaking in the classroom, and I often use the posters for quick speaking refreshers at various points in an individual lesson, or across a series of lessons, really getting the most out of the display. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. PRIMARY LATIN VEGETABLES BINGO

KS3 LATIN PRIMARY LATIN BINGO LATIN VEGETABLES 100 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS & 40 CALLING CARDS Children absolutely love to play bingo - it’s perfect for language learning. These Latin vegetables bingo games are differentiated, with varying degrees of challenge, and a multi-skill focus. I’ve selected the following vegetables, and I always include a mix of masculine, feminine, neuter, singular and plural, as I’ve found this a great way of helping beginner Latin students develop their familiarity with basic grammatical concepts: the mushrooms the cauliflower thee carrots the lettuce the cucumber the tomato the cabbage the potatoes the garlic the broccoli the peas the onions In this set I’ve included 100 differentiated bingo grids and 40 calling cards - 20 in Latin, and 20 in English - I always play with English calling cards too, as I’ve found it’s a really great way of further consolidating vocab - students have to focus carefully on the language ‘switch’! It’s definitely useful to have calling cards, so that you can keep track of what you’re calling out, and it also lets students be the bingo master or mistress too, meaning they can play quite independently. I differentiate my bingo games by using picture-only cards, which are great for general vocab consolidation and listening skills. There are 40 9-square grids in total, and there’s a set of color (which I sometimes laminate so that I can just get them out whenever I need to - make sure students have wipe-clean pens on their tables!). I’ve also included the same grids in black and white - simply print these out. I sometimes give out pages with four grids on, and let students choose which order they play the grids in - they have multiple pages - or sometimes, I get the students to cut out the grids, place them in a small bowl or similar on tables and they then randomly choose grids - depending on the size of your class, you will definitely have several winners per game! The grids are designed for all the squares to be crossed off in order to win the game. I also use word-only grids to help students focus more on their reading skills, so I’ve included 40 Latin word-only 9-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). The mixed word and picture grids are ideal for additional challenge and differentiated - there are 20 of these. There are 6 non-editable files in a zipped format. GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 DISPLAY POSTERS FLASHCARDS These German numbers display posters / flashcards create an instant introduction to Numbers 0-31 in German, also giving the learning environment fabulous German look and feel. I’ve found that having new and high-frequency language displays also helps promote German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of German learners. The posters help students familiarize themselves with how German words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The font is big enough for students to read in various locations in the classroom - I find this really important so that we can get the most out of any particular display - for example we use them for spelling and mental calculation games at certain points in the lesson. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag or black wave. Laminate or print on card stock - I always do this with my displays - they hang a lot better, and I recycle them for many years. SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES #1

(0)
PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES Sopas de letras are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 33 Spanish Christmas words, which I also use as a prompt to stimulate discussion about Spanish Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. There are 5 Spanish to Spanish grids, where students are prompted with the Spanish words, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! There are also 5 English to Spanish grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Spanish equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in Spanish, they also complete the Spanish word list on each page. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are absolutely essential for me, as they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, help them develop more independence in their learning. There’s a Spanish-English Christmas vocabulary reference sheet - you can either laminate this to share around small groups of students, or give one to each student to stick into their learning workbooks as a general reference resource. Students will have to look carefully at some of the words they’re looking for, as they may appear slightly differently - for example, they may have to find the gifts and work out what that is in Spanish - only the prompt the gift appears in the reference list. Have a browse in my store for more Spanish Christmas activities, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES

CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEYS, GRID TEMPLATES & CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY LIST Word searches a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This resource combines two sets of Christmas word searches, with Set 1 designed more for KS2, and Set 1 for KS1 - of course, it depends on your learners, and what stage they are currently at in their learning. Christmas Word Searches #1 The set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on a wide range of Christmas vocabulary, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. There are 48 Christmas words featured, which is a great way of stimulating discussion about cultural, religious and national traditions and practices. There are some religious words in the searches, such as Nativity and Three Kings/Wise Men. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - consolidating not only new words and vocabulary, but also working on reading, writing, spelling and English Language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. There are also four question and answer key grid templates for learners to create their own searches for each other - this is a really popular activity, and I’ve found that my learners often like to create grids for family at home too. The templates enable learners to apply language practically and creatively, which is really important at this stage of language development. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet, portrait format. There is also an answer key for each word search. Christmas Word Searches #2 This set features five differentiated word searches, again with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. For additional consolidation, they also rewrite each word in the word column. There are also five question and answer key grid templates . Encourage learners to include other Christmas words that aren’t included in the grids. We also discuss Christmas traditions and practices in our home and other countries, and this gives an additional opportunity to add words and phrases they can use in their own word searches. These word searches are in landscape format, mirroring the direction of reading and writing in English from left to right, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet. The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. ITALIAN ERE VERBS PRESENT TENSE

GCSE ITALIAN PRESENT TENSE -ERE VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE I’ve found that these are a great introduction to, and consolidation of, conjugating Italian verbs. There are 25 high-frequency regular and irregular -ERE verbs in the present tense. I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the formal Lei form being identical to the conjugation of singular pronouns. The workbook focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, but I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, students whose first language is English do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation in both languages, and I frequently see attempts such as io sto lavorare for I am working or similarly io faccio lavorare for I do work. I refer frequently the difference in usage, and this is important particularly when explaining when and in which contexts to use the simple present and the continuous / progressive present tense. The Challenge One Answer Key has both simple present and continuous present tense to help embed this notion a little more. The structure of the resource is as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Italian-English and English-Italian Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1 each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2 gives the infinitive of each verb in Italian, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 3 students write the corresponding Italian verb conjugation, and its infinitive form, from an English prompt. answer key I encourage my students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps template regularly, reflecting not only on the verbs and conjugations they feel confident about, but also how they think their general skills in Italian might be developing through the activity - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. They note any new verbs they learn, which helps them to build a really comprehensive verb vocab bank. We also use this to guide and inform whole-group discussion about progress and learning in general, which is a really useful learning activity in itself. SPANISH IR VERBS PRESENT TENSE

GCSE SPANISH KS3 SPANISH KS4 SPANISH PRESENT TENSE IR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency Spanish IR verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for KS3 Spanish students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in Spanish. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, with the Spanish present tense, I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the singular pronouns, including for example the singular formal pronoun Usted form being identical, which is fairly standard, but the conjugation of the formal singular Usted does frequently lead to errors at this stage of learning. The resource is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Spanish-English and English-Spanish, useful for longer-term reference too Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in Spanish across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in Spanish, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in Spanish. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding Spanish verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from a Spanish prompt. ESL EFL ENGLISH DATES DAYS MONTHS SEASONS TASK CARDS are perfect for advanced beginner English to intermediate English students, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of this essential English language in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in English in general, and certainly in English dates, days, months and seasons in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. There is a significant amount of practice and consolidation of language and grammar, such as word order, punctuation, nuances of spoken versus written language, tense, and ordinal / cardinal numbers. This maximizes the learning potential of the activity, which I take further when we look at multiple choice questions seeking to identify errors - being able to identify errors, and explain what is inaccurate, is a really important language learning skill, and really helps students progress in their learning. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: 36 differentaited question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper answer recording sheet I tend to use these for more formal assessment purposes, so for class work, my students use their work notebook, which also saves on prep and paper. answer key students can assess their own or each others’ work, which helps develop independence in learning, and is also a great teacher time-saver! There are two written recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One: This challenge requires students to write the corresponding English word or phrase from a Latin prompt. The words and phrases are in random, rather than category order - this challenges the memory more than when the vocab is in the order learners first learn it in. Written Recall Challenge Two: This challenge requires students to write the corresponding Latin word or phrase from an English prompt. The words and phrases are again in random, rather than category order. I encourage students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps page regularly, reflecting not only on the words and phrases they feel confident about, but also how they think their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing are developing - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last for years. LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS 0-20 WORD SEARCHES

(0)
PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS 0-20 10 differentiated word searches with answer keys focusing on Latin Numbers & Roman Numerals 0-20 ideal for beginner Latin learners of all ages - I’ve found that word searches are the ideal activity for young and beginner students of Latin to engage with the written word in Latin, at the same time developing essential beginner Latin vocabulary. They are easily differentiated - and the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grid with arrows. The word searches are really versatile, and I use them in lots of different contexts, such as starter and refresher activities, fun-time fillers, sub lessons, or free-choice activity at any time during the school year. There are 5 Latin to Latin grids, where learners are prompted with the Latin words, and look for them in Latin in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. Grid 5 increases the challenge by prompting the Latin numbers as gap fills. There are 2 English to Latin grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing in Latin, they also complete the Latin word list on each page. Grid 8 is also Latin to Latin, where learners have to make a simple calculation in order to establish what Latin word they are looking for in the grid, and again they write out the Latin number in a separate column. Grids 9 & 10 prompt with Roman Numerals, and learners also complete the word column in Latin. There is an answer grid for each word search, and this is essential for helping students develop more independence in their learning - they also give students an additional opportunity to engage with the target language, and are a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! ITALIAN REFLEXIVE VERBS LIST FREEBIE #1

GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN REFLEXIVE VERBS LIST I give my language learners of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive Italian vocabulary reference bank over the course of their language learning programme. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their Italian when they have a good grasp of core high-frequency Italian vocabulary. They’re great for quick Italian vocabulary quizzes too. There are of 25 high-frequency Italian reflexive verbs in the infinitive form, alphabetically both Italian-English and English-Italian - my students get these pretty much at the beginning of their program, even before we start to work on conjugation. If my group is small, and depending on the particular work we’re doing, I provide students with a set of double-sided and laminated reference resources. My language students all have a reference file or folder, again from the beginning of their learning, and part of helping them develop independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, is to give them opportunity to keep their learning resources in good order, and easily accessible. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I tend to use for vocabulary display, and black wave. I use a background for vocab lists, as feedback from learners over the years suggests that a visual can be helpful when learning what can be a large amount of new Italian vocabulary. Have a browse in my store for more Italian vocabulary lists, and a wide range of other Italian teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too!
