Week 2 of 6- A no-prep lesson that explores photography and digital collages using iPads, and celebrates the use of nature within art. Improves digital literacy and Includes non-digital alternatives. Perfect for teaching in Fall, Summer or Spring with Grades 1-3! This product contains a 21-slide Teaching PowerPoint that guides students through learning the basics of photography and different shots that artists use. Children are encouraged to be out in nature, taking photos using these different shots ready for those images to be edited and manipulated when back in class. The Teaching PowerPoints guides children through the use of PicCollage (a free app) to create digital collages. This activity can be conducted as a class, or in smaller wellbeing groups to work on mindfulness or calming SEN children during the chaos of the school day. The focus is on gaining digital literacy skills, such as photo editing, uploading and downloading images from Google, cutting out images from their backgrounds and arranging them aesthetically. This lesson is likely to take 1.5-2 hours, involving a short stop outside to take some photos that could be as short or as long as you like! If you don’t have access to outdoor space for your students, images from online search engines could be used! Week 1 of 6- A no-prep lesson that opens a course on the use of nature within art. Gets children outside exploring, and it is perfect for teaching in Fall, Summer or Spring with Grades 1-3! This product contains a 13-slide Teaching PowerPoint that guide students through learning the basics of groupings in nature (flora and fauna), and walks them through exploring the outdoors, taking an interest in the world around them and creating a collage using the objects they find, pens and paper. This activity can be conducted as a class, or in smaller wellbeing groups to work on mindfulness or calming SEN children during the chaos of the school day. The focus is on talking about the items that they find, exploring patterns in nature, and lateral thinking when creating a collage based on examples on the slides. Week 4 of 6- A no-prep lesson that explores colour theory, mixing paint and the art of impasto painting. Children in grades 1-3 will learn which colors mix together to create others, in addition to monochromatic, analogous and complementary color schemes. A perfect art unit for Autumn, Spring or Summer! This product contains a 19-slide Teaching PowerPoint that guides students through previous weeks’ learning (watercolours, critiquing peers’ work, photography basics) and develops their art foundation knowledge by looking at colour theory. Children will be introduced to new vocabulary such as primary, secondary, evoke, emotion, analogous, monochromatic, complementary and Impasto. This activity can be conducted as a class, or in smaller wellbeing groups to work on mindfulness or calming SEN children during the chaos of the school day. Week 6 of 6- A no-prep lesson that explores mixed media collage, combining all skills taught in this unit to create a final piece. Additionally, children in grades 1-3 will learn how to evaluate their efforts and complete learning journals. This product contains a 11-slide Teaching PowerPoint that guides students through previous weeks’ learning (with linked, bespoke vocabulary-matching game hosted on WordWall©) and develops their understanding of how to create a mixed media collage. Sometimes, the way children present their research findings in art isn’t up to scratch with their practical work. This resource gives children the opportunity to show their findings neatly (with sentence starters, word banks and prompts to help guide their writing) and give opinions on the artists’ work.
