Algebra Ten Review Fortune Tellers
This purchase includes ten different fortune tellers (cootie catchers) each differentiated. The ten algebra topics included are;
Simplifying expressions
Evaluation/substitution
Expansion of term over a bracket
Solving 1&2 step equations
Mix of four above.
Solving Inequalities
Factorising
Expansion of binomials/quadratics
Factorising quadratics a=1
Factorising quadratics a≠1
In each cootie catcher there are eight questions requiring students to use a variety of algebra skills such as solving equations and evaluating expressions through substitution. The corners of the cootie catcher indicate the differentiation which is to four levels (easy, medium and difficult) and the fourth corner is a challenge section.
Blank version is also included as you can ask pupils to create their own questions and answers; ideal as a homework task and that’s next lessons’ starter sorted.
Fortune Teller activities, or Cootie Catchers in the US, are a great childhood game remodeled to test mathematical skills. Check out our blog post for further information.

Ratio Simplifying and Sharing (Quiz Quiz Trade Cards)
Quiz quiz trade activity is a Cooperative learning activity
This resource has been updated and now includes 36 QQT cards which cover the following increasingly difficult questions;
simplifying ratio
sharing amounts in a given ratio
Solving ratio problems
Each pupil is given a question card (print laminate and slice). Set three minutes on the clock.
Pupils stand-up and pair-up, one quizzes, ones answers, roles are reversed and then pupils trade cards and move on.
Pupils must be encouraged to coach each other in finding the correct answer (peer assessment).

Standard Index Form (Collect a Joke)
This is a collect a joke activity which requires pupils to collect the letters to give the punch line to a bad maths joke!
Pupils start where indicated, make a note of the letter in the middle of the row (cross it out to keep track) and then work out the answer to the question below. They then find this answer on the top row and again make a note of the letter underneath, thus collecting the punchline ‘because they have sine and cosine to get a tan’.
Easily laminated to be used with whiteboard pens time and time again.

Fan and Pick promotes cooperative learning, creating situations for discussions around finding the correct answer and not just what the answer is.
They can be used as a plenary activity to determine what learning has taken place, used to determine pupils prior knowledge to a topic and of course great for revision.
This Fan and Pick has a set of 12 question cards, differentiated by hotness and covers simplifying ratios and sharing amounts by a given ratio.
