Full lesson PowerPoint (plus suggested practical activities and independent learning tasks) sufficient to teach a broad range of abilities about gas pressure and air pressure. The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers.
This full Lesson PowerPoint will allow you to teach students the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry content on breaking down hydrocarbons (cracking) and comparing hydrogen versus petrol as fuels for vehicles. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers.
Note: this lesson covers the Edexcel Paper 2 specification point on hydrogen fuel cells which is relevant to both Combined Science and Triple Science students: “Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of using hydrogen, rather than petrol, as a fuel in cars”
For full coverage of the Triple-only Paper 1 content, evaluating hydrogen fuel cells alongside chemical cells, see my separate lesson “SC16a Chemical Cells and Fuel Cells”.
Full lesson PowerPoint (with suggested practical activities) sufficient to teach a broad range of abilities about combustion of different fuels. The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers.
You'll also need to download the FREE worksheet "8Ea Products of Combustion" from my shop.
Full Lesson PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lesson on Dynamic Equilibrium. The resource is easy to follow for teachers and readily accessible for students. For Combined Science, Foundation students only need to cover the first two objectives; Higher tier candidates also need to learn about factors affecting the position of the equilibrium. Triple Science students also need to do the follow-up lesson (SC15b) on Factors affecting Equilibria.
A clearer version of the worksheet can be downloaded from my shop in needed. Search for "GCSE Chemistry Haber Process worksheet to go with lesson CC12a SC12a “Dynamic Equilibrium”.
This PowerPoint will allow you to deliver the GCSE 9-1 Chemistry Core Practical in which electrolysis of copper sulphate solution is performed using copper electrodes.
It includes the background theory that students need to know. The experiment is complex and time-consuming, so I have suggested some short-cuts and have provided easy-to-follow methods to share with students. I’ve also included exemplar data for students to analyse if their experimental data is not sufficient.
The resources are easy to follow for teachers and readily accessible for students. This is required learning for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and High-tier.
Other GCSE lessons (including other lessons on Electrolysis) are available from my shop. They can be purchased individually or, alongside this lesson, as part of a whole-topic bundle.
Full Lesson PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on Uses and Properties of Polymers, and also on the Problems with Polymers. Sometimes covered across two lessons, I have combined both into a single lesson for efficiency. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers.
Full Lesson PowerPoint (with engaging practical demonstration) sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lesson on Group 1, the Alkali Metals.
The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers.
You will also need to download my FREE resource “SC17a Alkali metals worksheet” from my TES shop.
This full Lesson PowerPoint will allow to teach the Higher-only specification points on Electrolysis, focusing on oxidation and reduction at the anode and cathode in terms of loss and gain of electrons. The lesson also introduces the concept of half equations and provides practice at writing these.
I deliver this lesson after first exploring the basic principles of electrolysis in my earlier lesson “Electrolysis (CC10a / SC10a)”.
The resource is easy to follow for teachers, readily accessible for students and is appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes, HIGHER TIER ONLY.
This bundle meets all specification points needed to teach Topic 25 “Qualitative Analysis: Tests for Ions” and Topic 26 “Bulk and Surface Properties of Matter, and Nanoparticles” from the Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Separate Science Chemistry course. These topics are for Triple Science classes only, they are not needed for Combined Science students.
The bundle includes five full lesson PowerPoints (one of these can be used to deliver two lessons) and associated resources, plus my overview and equipment lists for all Year 10 and Year 11 Combined & Triple Science.
I have many other GCSE lessons and bundles available so please check out my shop, OnSpecScience.
PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on Alcohols and Ethanol Production in one single lesson. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers. Best taught after completing my lesson SC22a on "Alkenes and Homologous Series", which provides an intro to the structures of the alcohol homologous series.

PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on Condensation Polymerisation. Consistent with the Chemistry specification, this lesson focuses mainly on drawing and understanding esterification between single carboxylic acid and alcohol molecules, rather than polymer chains. However, it does extend to encompass formation of polyesters for high-end students.
The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, HIGHER TIER ONLY. Best taught after completing my lesson SC22a on “Alkenes and Homologous Series”, which provides an intro to the structures of carboxylic acids and alcohols.
**For one of the final summary tasks, you will need to get hold of Pearson Edexcel worksheet SC24c.2 “Monomers and Polymers”. Failing this, you could use slides 10 & 11 to prepare your own card sort which would substitute for the worksheet. Students’ progress can also be assessed simply using the yellow and pink box tasks on slide 9.
**

You will also need to download my free worksheet “SC26a-b Materials Research sheet”.
This PowerPoint (containing a worksheet) will allow you to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lesson on Electroplating (Triple Science Only). It also contains slides that provide essential background for the Core Practical involving Electrolysis of Copper Sulphate (CC10a). The Core Practical prep can be taught separately but I find it fits better alongside electroplating for Triple Science classes.
**Be aware: this lesson works best if you have access to Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Chemistry textbooks. It’s not essential; other resources can be used and all information needed for students to complete the worksheets is found in the slides. However, if textbooks are available, the worksheet can be completed as an independent learning task. **
