This is a set of 30 carefully and colourfully created PowerPoint slides introducing clauses. As always, if you have any questions about this resource please ask away. If you have any problems with the resource or find any typos or other errors, do let me know and I will endeavor to address the issue as soon as possible.

Activities to support introduction to Shakespeare's language
This is an aid for students being introduced to Shakespeare’s language. It consists of:
Two versions of a 25-word matching activity where students have to match the Shakespearean word to the modern equivalent. The words have been selected based on some of the most frequently recurring Shakespearean terms.
Examples provided of the words in use with quotes taken from Romeo & Juliet
Two examples of subject-verb-object inversion.
Two crosswords, one where students are given the Shakespearean term and have to find the modern equivalent, and one vice versa. The words are the same as the ones from the earlier activity to help consolidation.
This set of activities was designed to be used in conjunction with the PowerPoint presentation “Introduction to Shakespeare’s Life, Times & Language”, but can also be used independently.
English narrative short story structure plan
This handout guides the student in developing a creative story by prompting them around the use of structural devices and character / plot development. As both PDF and editable PowerPoint. PDF can be made editable by first converting to PowerPoint with a free web-based file conversion tool.
Linguistic devices poster & worksheet with examples and activities
This document includes a two-page poster with 18 of the most commonly used linguistic devices including a definition and statement of effect or purpose and a worksheet with examples and activities to assist understanding and retention. When teaching linguistic devices I have been struck by how quickly students forget them and / or mix them up. Often they are able to name the devices but are not as able to grasp the intended use or effect on the reader. For that reason I have found it useful to have a poster on the wall covering the main devices and to reinforce understanding with activities such as the ones here.
The first activity is one where students are given the device name and have to provide a definition and statement of effect / purpose, together with an example.
The second activity is one where students are given a definition and have to match that with the appropriate name from a box below.
The third activity similarly has students matching an example of the device in use with the appropriate name.
At the end of the document there is also a list of sample sentence stems which students can use when performing analysis.
I am always happy to receive feedback as to how these materials worked for you.
