This lesson is PERFECT for an end of term Computing lesson or as a really FUN introduction to Scratch Programming. The 17 slide PowerPoint guides acts as your FULL lesson planning, guiding students through the process of making a racing car game in Scratch. It introduces and explains key terms like Spite, Stage and Variable as the lesson goes along too. If you wish, you could give students the glossary handout to complete throughout the lesson as seven key terms have been highlighted in PINK text to be written into the glossary and defined as the lesson progresses (optional extra!). The lesson includes a short peer assessment activity to look at each other’s games and offer pointers for improvements. In addition, the code on the handout could be annotated by students as a homework task or additional plenary. The lesson includes an extension challenge for higher ability students (fully differentiated by outcome, task and resources available to students). This would really suit KS2 or KS3 classes. My students LOVED it; I’ve used it with all of my year 7 Computing groups as a fun end of term lesson AND with my lower ability year 9 Computer Science GCSE group as an ice breaker introductory lesson to programming basics. Instructions for teachers on how to create and use look up tables within Excel to calculate grades from scores automatically. Equally, you might use these instructions when teaching this skill to students. I hope these instructions are fairly straight forward. I used Excel 2013 for the print screens, though the skill is similar in whatever Excel version is being used. Great for staff training. ALL staff should know how to do this to save time when tracking data. Enjoy!

This is a four page student booklet that shows an example balance sheet and profit and loss account. Students should complete all speech bubbles noting what each area of the financial documents shows OR how they’re calculated. Eight product posters that have now adopted brand names as their generally accepted nouns. Includes an introduction poster and conclusion. Whoever views this display needs to select a name they’d call each product… they add up a score and then the higher the score the more influenced someone has been by brand names. Great for Open Evening, particularly if two learners could lead it to discuss results to prospective parents.

This resource depends on you teaching Business Ownership first (sole traders, partnerships and companies). Students should be given a printed version of the puzzle (the one with two pages). I get them to work in pairs as they can both be cutting at the same time to reduce ‘cutting time’. They both cut out one of the pages then get to work creating a triangle solution by connecting matching statements. There is only ONE way the puzzle will become a triangle correctly, so it’s trial and error but a GREAT task to consolidate learning of Business Ownership topic. I then get learners to stick their puzzles down on A3 paper (two sheets, because it just sticks over one A3 page). Alternatively, you could cut the puzzle and laminate for year on year use. I’ve included the solution. To ensure ALL students can access it, I print the solution on A3 paper and stick it in the corridor. Each pair gets a few chances to go out and take a peek, if needed. Finally, I’ve included a plenary to review the tarsia puzzle and a homework true or false activity on Business Ownership, this might work well as a homework task to see what students have learnt from the puzzle. FULL lesson on Business Communication Methods (no lesson plan, just worksheets in booklet). These are best used AFTER you’ve taught, or at least introduced, verbal/non-verbal communication and internal/external communication. I actually mark page 2 of the booklet as a test out of 20 to assess understanding of the topic. Space on the front for teacher assessment WWW and EBi. They find a scary image that, if their users hit the wall of their maze, will flash on the screen (after slides are linked). I don’t want students having nightmares though, so I have provided an alternative ‘nicer maze game’ too! Included is a student handout, PowerPoint to act as a short lesson guide (two versions - scary and nicer) as well as a scream sound for students to use if placed on a shared area.
