Hi welcome to my shop! I'm currently Head of Humanities, but I've also been head of department at a number of other schools, not to mention head of year. So I have a lot of high quality resources to share. I take real pride in trying to ensure my resources are well presented, clear, easy to use and of course challenging and engaging for the students. They have taken me a lot of time to make, but hopefully they will save you a lot of time. If you have any feedback then please review me!

Papua New Guinea - Fantastic Places

This lesson can be a one off stand alone lesson or can be used as part of a ‘Fantastic Places’ unit (also available at my shop) It is a really interesting lesson that looks at the unique fascinating lives of one of the isolated tribes in Papua New Guinea. An important lesson as these people may be some of the last who are able to live their lives in this way. The students have really enjoyed this lesson whenever I have taught this lesson.

Christian attitudes to homosexuality - Interview Lesson

(0)
This lesson looks at the various Christian attitudes towards homosexuality. It investigates three different perspectives (Liberal Protestant, Evangelical Christian and Roman Catholic) and why they believe in this view. This lesson can be used for KS3 or KS4. There is a model answer included (this is based on the GCSE Edexcel SoW) but can easily adapted for another SoW. Students then look at a flawed model answer and are asked to improve it. They are also encouraged to consider their own views, why they hold those views and whether their views mirror one of the religious perspectives studied in the lesson. Overall a fantastic lesson.

How to use my planner - Study or homework planner

This powerpoint (with activities) can be adapted to your own personal use or planner design. It is designed to help tutor and pupils to ensure they are using their homework/study planners correctly and effectively. It also helps to promote consistency and efficiency and help to improve h/w recording across our school. This was a problem at my school until I created this presentation, and now it is much much better!

Community and being a good neighbour

This lesson gets students to think about what being part of a community means and why they should try to be kind to other people. This is a PSHE lesson but would work just as well in Citizenship or as part of a tutor time program. It focuses on the idea of the Social contract (i.e. treat others as you want others to treat you) by looking at case studies of poor behaviour. The students really enjoy this lesson.

An excellent lesson that gets the students to work as a teams to solve various problems. Unsurprisingly this lesson involves a lot of teamwork with fun activities that get the students off their seats and competing with each other in groups. The main feature of the lesson is a plane crash activity that is both challenging and fun. The students LOVE this lesson!

Muslim Attitudes to Drugs and Alcohol

This lesson get the students to explore the Islamic teachings about the use of drugs and alcohol. It uses different teachings from the Quran to explain why Muslims have the attitudes they do towards drugs and alcohol. The students will also be asked to consider whether or not these views should still be held today, and if not what the counter arguments could be. A good lesson to highlight student attitudes and misconceptions.
Weimar & Nazi Germany Loop revision game

Weimar & Nazi Germany Loop revision game

(0)
This is a Loop revision activity for Nazi Germany. It works on the same principle as flash cards, but the key words on one side don’t match the definition on the other side. In order to complete the Loop they need to find the student who has the key word that matches their definition (read the instructions below). It is a really fun activity that I mainly use for revision but can be used as a starter, a plenary or a fun activity. Instructions for use: 1 - Download and Print off the sheets. 2 - Cut around the outside edge of all the cards. 3 - Fold over the cards in the middle and glue them so on one side you have key words and on the other side you have definitions. 4 - Laminate the sheets (optional) 5 - Cut out the individual cards. 6 - Give out ALL the cards (at least one per person) 7 - Choose a random student to read out their definition, the rest of the class listen and whoever has the correct key word SHOUT IT OUT! 8 - This second student then flips over their card and reads aloud their definition. 9 - You keep going until you complete the loop and get back to the first student TIP 1 - To make it more effective and more competitive you should time each successful loop and post the times. Get the students to compete to try to beat their past times and other classes times. TIP 2 - Want to make it more difficult? Make the students swap cards every time someone makes a mistake or every time someone calls out. That way they will follow the rules and be forced to learn all the cards.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2023 - Ordinary People

This assembly or tutor time presentation covers the history of anti-semitism and the reason why HMD was established. It includes a script (in the notes under each slide and in a seperate document) which explains each slide clearly but in some detail. It covers the 2023 HMD theme ‘Ordinary People’ and covers its relevance in the world today. The presentation looks at the reasons for anti-semitism and how this racism was turned from prejudice, to discrimination, to persecution, to genocide. It also looks at more recent genocides in the 20th and 21st centuries, and discusses why people still hold racist attitudes and ideas today. It finishes by looking at what we can do to combat racism in our every day lives. A really interesting, well presented and well made assembly.

This assembly addresses the gun epidemic in the USA, by looking at: -The history of guns in the USA -The causes of the gun problem -The NRA -Trump and the Republican party And causes for optimism for the future. It was written in the aftermath of the Parkland School Shooting but is just as applicable to any mass shooting in the USA (update in light of the tragic 2022 school shooting at Robb Elementry school). This is a well presented, well research, topical and very interesting assembly that covers the gun debate in some detail.
Getting ahead of the competition

Getting ahead of the competition

(0)
This is an outstanding assembly about the future and the choices students will have to make to get ahead of the competition. This is a perfect assembly for student building up to their exams. The assembly gets them to think like employers and ask them who they would choose when faced with three applicants and ten different areas. For each area (such as punctuality, references, experience, appearance etc.) the students are presented with three options and they have to pick the one they think would make the best impression. The point being these are all situations they may well be faced with in the future and they need to make the right choices to get ahead. This assembly also includes a video (which is optional based on how much time you have) as well as a powerful message. This assembly was delivered to year 11 and year 13 but would also be suitable for KS3. The assmbly should take about 15 to 20 min to deliver (less if you don’t show the video clip).

What are Human Rights?

This is a clever lesson where the students are introduced to human rights and have to imagine a word where the students take place in a market place activity to buy and sell human rights. This was made for a citizenship lesson but could easily work in a geography lesson, or humanities or RS. A fun but informative (and important) lesson,
