Is China the World's workshop?

One of my favourite lessons looking at factories in China, focusing on the inside of one of China’s Foxcon (Apple) factories. Students begin by looking at how many of their clothes/belongings are from China. After writing down their objectives, students learn the terms NIC and globalisation before homing in on Foxcon.

This is the 8th lesson of my year 9 tourism unit. The lesson looks at tourism in a HIC. First students locate Dubai and look at why people like to holiday there. From this students learn the impacts of tourism in Dubai before designing their very own hotel for Dubai.

This is the third lesson that I have created for a unit titled: Who are the Masai Mara. The lesson starts with a short starter followed by objectives. The students then locate the Masai Mara tribe and learn some quick facts about them. The students then ‘go on a safari tour’ collecting facts to answer their worksheets. Following this carousel activity are a few short videos. The lesson ends with a plenary. Students loved this lesson!

This is the 5th lesson for my year 9 tourism unit. The lesson looks at the pro’s and con’s of cruise holidays. After learning what curise holidays are and learn the pro’s and con’s the students design their very own, eco-friendly cruise ships!

This is a lesson that I have created for a unit titled ‘Impossible places’. The lesson starts with allowing students to guess what the lesson is about through various clues followed by objectives. The students then locate Las Vegas and outline some of its key features. The lesson is then divided in to two sections, physical and human causes for Las Vegas’ water shortage involving some climate graph work. A very enjoyable lesson to teach!

This is a fantastic lesson that has been created for my impossible places unit. The lesson starts by looking at the Burj Kahalifa, followed by objectives. Then students locate Dubai, look at what it is like to day using video, and then the lesson focuses on Dubai’s buildings and man-made islands. The lesson ends with a plenary.

Following from this, the students identify the pro’s and con’s of tourism in Cancun through writing how different people feel about tourism there (i.g the local people, visitors, hotel manager and the president of Mexico)

This is a lesson that has been created for Year 8's for a unit called 'Development and resource issues'. The lesson looks at why rich countries are getting richer, focusing on the four job sectors to explain this. A great, fun and challenging lesson!

This is the third lesson of my China unit. The lesson begins by allowing students to identify their differences between their own school day to a school day in China. Following from this the students have a chance to write letters to a pen pal in China to discuss their school days. There is also an exam question activity too.

The second lesson of my tourism unit for year 9’s. Students spend the first part of the lesson looking at the different types of tourists. Then, they cut out their choice of holiday from a brochure before explaining the human and physical attractions and the type of people that would enjoy that type of holiday

This is a lesson that I have created for a unit titled ‘Impossible places’. The lesson looks at Antarctica primarily looking at it’s location, climate and animals. The lesson begins with an odd one out activity followed by objectives. The students locate Antarctica and create a table outlining the difference between the Arctic and Antarctic. Students then complete an animal fact file for some of the animals found in Antarctica. (sometimes I place teddy bears around the room with each sheet at treat it like an expedition!) This activity comes with differentiated work sheets. The lesson ends by looking at a short video and a short plenary. A great lesson that students can really get their teeth into!

Lesson 3 for year 9 looks at the changing tourism in Great Yarmouth. The lesson begins with locating Gt Yarmouth before comparing tourism there in the 1950’s to present day. In the same lesson students learn the Butlers Model and use it to explain tourism in Gt Yarmouth.
