A well presented lesson serving as an introduction to Slavery by introducing topic keywords. Students are engaged through detailed, well presented resources. This lesson covers Elizabeth I’s religious settlement. 4 Mark exam technique has been incorporated into the lesson. The lesson has been written for KS3 however it would be useful for LAP GCSE students studying the Elizabethan module for their GCSE.

This lesson details the progression from Motte and Bailey Castles to Stone Keep Castles in Medieval Britain. The lesson contains a 4 mark describe question to reflect on prior learning. The content covers the structure and features of stone keep castle and then looks further (through means of a carousel activity) advantages and disadvantages of stone keep castles. This would lead well to insert a Paper 1 ‘Interpretations Q’ for the new Spec AQA paper.

This lesson is designed for my current Y11 students starting AQA Paper 1 (Old Spec). It covers the content to the event through a detailed piece of writing which students work on independently at first then in groups to complete a worksheet. Students then use their knowledge of the event to practice and self mark a 6 mark question with heavy scaffolding to help students understand accurate exam structure. The lesson content covers the events of 1936 and the reaction of the leading European powers at the time (namely Britain & France) to Hitler’s violation of the Treaty of Versailles. Students consider how/why was Hitler able to get away with it and begin to consider how this could lead to WW2. Please review!

This lesson is the 4th lesson in my Slavery scheme of work. This Middle Passage lessons looks firstly at the journey and experience of slaves through the middle passage via the medium of a storyboard. Using a pack of resources, students then to consider in groups the Time/Author/Purpose/Place of each source. Like in all my Slavery lessons - I show students a clip from ROOTs for them to visualise the Middle Passage - however this is not an essential part of the lesson! If purchased - please review!

This lesson has been created on Microsoft Powerpoint and the accompanying student worksheets have been created on Microsoft Word and Powerpoint . Teacher Notes & Answers have been added to the notes section underneath each relevant slide on the Powerpoint. Please check these before delivering the lesson to your student. They offer excellent source analysis support for teachers new to the topic. This resource is Lesson 2 in my Holocaust scheme of work. It’s aim is to explore the ways in which the Nazi’s used propaganda and stereotyping to humiliate and discredit the Jewish race in German society. This is to help students begin to understand how the Nazis then were able to turn society against the Jewish people and other minority groups which then paved the way towards Holocaust and eventual mass murder. This lesson is very heavily focused on working on students source analysis and interpretation skills using antisemitic propaganda that was distributed by the Nazi party in German society in the 1930’s. This lesson includes suggested learning objectives and outcomes and has been designed to be taught over the course of one hour - although it may run over. The utmost care has been taken to ensure this resource has been created with the utmost respect to the victims of the holocaust and to ensure that students have the opportunity to connect and empathise to the human beings to whom the attrocities of the holocaust were committed.** There a no graphic images of corpses in this resource.** I really hope you enjoy teaching this lesson to your students as much as I do! This lesson is the first of 2 detailing slave auctions. It makes links to human rights laws today and it practices skills of source inference and empathy. To access this lesson to its fullest extent Roots Slave auction is best to be watched. It is better to watch the fuller thing on DVD but below is a quick Youtube link to the auction.

This includes assessment for the new style questions 1 - 3 (and Q4 to bring the paper out of 20). 2 interpretations on women are offered and the 3 new style questions to accompany. In addition the paper also incorporates a feedback and review lesson helping students (and teachers convert grades to the new 1 - 9 grades based on percentages. This is the grading system we have created for the use in my history dept. It also offers a conversion back to old levels and old lettered GCSE grades to help students understand their new grades better. Also attached is an alternative assessment I used with my Y9s which asks students to answer Q4 & 5 style questions. The assessment is for students who have been studying Paper 1D AQA new spec - economic boom and the roaring 1920s.

This lesson has been created for KS3 history students and is the first lesson in a series on the Titanic. Students will specifically look at why the Titanic is so famous and investigate, using data, whether women and children really were prioritised to be saved first. The lesson looks firstly at prior knowledge then a literacy comprehension tasks to pull out out facts about the Titanic and gain a broad understanding about why the Titanic is so infamous. Students then look at data showing the different social classes aboard the Titanic and the mortality rates of the passengers. Students use cross-curricular skills and produce a graph showing this data and then using closed questioning for direction students explain the patterns they notice between mortality rates and class of passenger/sex and age of passengers. Squared or graph paper is ideally required to complete this task easily and neatly. The lesson offers an opportunity for independent work and a paired activity in the format of a plenary game. when exploring the different inventions and the inventors developed during the 18th Century. A homework opportunity is provided and accompanying homework slips are included in the supporting resources. All accompanying resources are included in Microsoft Powerpoint format and suggested learning outcomes provided with space for you to add your own accompanying grades. I have taught this lesson to all Y7, Y8 and Y9 depending on where the Titanic falls in the schemes of work. I really hope you enjoy teaching this lesson as much as I do!
