I drew this little soft winged beetle (Malthodes minimus - Malthodes minimus) for my class after I spotted it on some blossom in a tree, on my Rydal Water walk in the Lake District, Cumbria. We used it as part of our minibeasts of Britain lessons as we explored the importance of the food chain, types of food creatures eat, habitats they live in, and role of insects in the environment. An augmented reality version of this page is available in the published book on Amazon. This will allow students to colour in the picture and then see it on their smartphone or tablet computer, along with further details from the National Curriculum. Money Trees and British Traditions

(0)
For hundreds of years, all across Britain, people have traditionally added coins to certain trees, in the belief that the tree spirits of the forest would bring them good luck. But be sure to never remove any coin from a tree, because this will bring a curse upon you!! I will be putting together this collection of photos as I encounter money trees on my row around the coast of Great Britain. But one of the best places to find such a tree, is on the Coffin Route between Rydal Water and the village of Grasmere in the Lake District.
