Ppt presentation I created to teach the present continuous for KS4 students, however it can be easily adapted to any ability group due to the nature of the activities. it provides an explanation of what it is (uses), time indicators, formation (endings) and main irregular forms. It then includes 5 different activities: 2 controlled practice activities (translation); 2 guided practice activities (building sentences from an image and sentence completion (differentiated) and 1 freer practice activity (students to think creatively and build sentences using the present continuous based on stimuli dice; it allows them to produce different outcomes, as it’s an open-ended activity). Answers, where applicable, are included.

What you will find on this ppt is: types of accommodation; facilities (using habia, tenia); adjectives to describe the accommodation & facilities (using era); location phrases (using estaba en); some authentic hotel reviews for students to work on positives and negatives; a listening activity (teacher led) based on Conti’s technique faulty echo; a speaking and a writing activity to put it all into practice. A very simple lesson containing 5 mini-activities to do in pairs based around 2 TV guides to exploit this type of authentic text. It’s highly based on the textbook but extending it. It also includes a British TV guide example to work on speaking. As this is done towards the end of the module, I’ve included 2 noughts and crosses sheets for students to do in pairs and thus review vocabulary from module 2.3 Prefiero las comedias. PPT contains a total of 8 slides (1 of them being the answer sheet to the noughts and crosses game).

competitive reading activity called question trails to make reading more fun. This question trails exercise is based on AQA AS Spanish textbook page 34, text called “Hasta los 14 no deberian tener movil”. Activity took 2 hours to create but it was well worth it - students worked in pairs and had fun trying to complete the activity first. Rewards can be given for extra motivation. As students will have to read the text carefully, the whole activity will easily take at least 30 minutes to carry out. All instructions and handouts required inside of pack. Answers included too. A different and fun way to get students reading for detail without complaining!
