This baseline test is suitable to quickly get information of the proficiency level of a potential EAL student to inform your teaching.
It consists of 100 multiple choice (3) questions.
The number of correct answers will inform about your student’s proficiency level (new to English / early acquisition / developing competence / competent / fluent).
The test is divided in 3 sections. Section A tests the general understanding of English, e.g. interactions with a question and having to choose the best answer (conventionalisms). Section B purely tests the learners’ grammatical knowledge (verbs (participles, passive voice, collocations, etc)
Resource includes:
baseline test (100 questions)
answer key
proficiency bands
Mega bundle for Kapitel 3 "Bleib gesund”, including all units (1-4) covering the topic of food, drink and healthy living.
An extensive (90 slides) powerpoint, containing plenty of activities both from the textbook and created by me, including a lot of extension tasks to stretch high attainers.
NOTE: look at the bottom of the slides (not in presentation mode) for instructions on what to do in each activity.
Viva 3 - Modules 1-4 retrieval practice starters for exam revision
These are good to do as starters before a module exam is going to take place, or as revision before end of year exams.
PPT contains 4 slides, 1 for module 1 - somos asi; 1 for module 2 - oriéntate; 1 version of module 3 - en forma; and 1 version of module 4 - reciclamos. Please note unit 4.3 is the only unit from module 4 I based this on, as we don’t teach anything else from that module, so if you want to add content from other units, you’ll need to edit the activity. All the other slides include items from each sub-unit within the module, ensuring everything is revisited.
Each slide contains 12 questions ranging from very easy - easy - challenging - difficult for students to translate into either language, or come up with a short explanation / phrase. The harder the question, the more points they can take if they get it right. The idea is for them to do it at the back of their book / on a MWB. Answers appear on click.
Allow at least 15 minutes of the lesson for it to be done properly.
This resource includes a 43 slide ppt presentation I prepared to teach the new Edexcel International GCSE 9-1 for my Year 5 (11) group. As the textbook isn’t great, I created a few extra resources to combine with working on the textbook.

3B Shopping and money matters --> subsections 3B.1 to 3B.3.
I have different bundles available on my profile for each textbook topic.
A ppt which covers the relevant language to teach Module 4.1 Te gustaria ir al cine? from the Viva 2 textbook.
You will find plenty of vocabulary for students to be able to:
talk about what places there are/aren’t in their city/town.
describe them using relevant adjectives
suggesting a plan and responding by accepting / rejecting
using prepositions and times (time is introduced from scratch) to specify where to meet.
Ppt contains vocab sheets if you print these for your ss; a vocab test and ideas to put all skills into practice, as well as a number of starter activities at the end of the ppt presentation.
Check out the bottom notes on each slide - often you will find instructions to tasks.
A translation maze inspired on the language from pages 104 and 105 on the Viva 2 textbook, topic ‘que tipo de casa prefieres?’ (module 5.1).
All instructions are on the resource, and should be displayed and explained to students before starting to play.
Aim: to find your way out of the maze by shading a path of correct answers. You get out when your path connects the entrance with the exit boxes.
If you don’t know this activity it has, in essence, the same principle as a bingo. It takes quite some time to run, as there are 18 different questions/rounds and children get very excited by shading the boxes and counting how many left they need to shade before they get out of the maze!
The teacher should then check the answers (all included) of any child claiming to have got out of the maze: note they should be perfect or close to perfect translations to be able to call a winner. If you were to get through the 18 rounds and no one has managed to get out of the maze (unlikely), go back to question 1 and get them to translate the opposite sentence until someone can win.
This activity tends to work wonders with any age group and is a nice alternative to bingo. It’s also easily editable - you might find the sentences I’ve used are too challenging for your class.
On my profile you can find the same activity for Viva 1 - module 4.4 como es tu casa o piso? with vocabulary related to pages 86-87.
This 30-slide resource includes extra materials to accompany the textbook to teach topic 6.3 el patrimonio musical y su diversidad. You can see what type of activities are included in the preview of the resource (main focus is on flamenco and the imperfect of subjunctive).

As the textbook isn’t great, I created many extra resources to combine with working on the textbook. That includes the introduction of the perfect tense in this instance. In this topic i do not follow the textbook very closely as due to time limitations I am just covering the main aspects of environment: things we do to protect the environment, and then environmental problems and their solutions, introducing the subjunctive, too.
NOTE: look at the bottom of the slides (not in presentation mode) for instructions on what to do in each activity.
I have different bundles available on my profile for each textbook topic.
