PSHE lesson for Mental Health Week 2024 which has a theme of ‘mental health in the workplace’, however we’ve also added in content about mental health issues in the wider world in general too, to make this more immediately relevant to students. In this lesson students will explore what we mean when we talk about mental health in the workplace and the wider world outside of school, the main contributing factors to employees’ mental health issues and practical steps that can be taken to help manage and resolve these.

Students investigate the latest scientific studies on the personality differences between men and women, critique them, read about the nature vs nuture debate and explore how extremists have hijacked information about male and female differences for their own agendas.

2 HOURS A fully-resourced transgender PSHE / RSE lesson which serves as an introduction to the difference between sex and gender and explores sexuality, identity, language (correct terms) and gender expression. Students will explore new key terminology before investigating the key components of identity and sexual orientation, why some people still find some of the ideas behind this controversial (such as pronoun use) and then educate other students on a trait they will be working on and presenting in small groups (all information needed is included).
This lesson is great to consolidate the PSHE 2020/24 spiral curriculum (especially for an LGBT+ unit) or for a Citizenship diversity unit. The lesson has been written for KS5 and is editable, so easy to adapt for your own PSHE planning.

Introduction to UK Parliament lessons - 2x 1 hour Citizenship lessons all about Parliament and Law Making. Communicating online PSHE Lesson. A one hour-long, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS2. In this lesson, the students will discuss why we need to be careful when communicating with others online. We will discuss ways that we can be respectful to others, and identify examples of unacceptable online behaviour. We will look at how sarcasm and intonation rarely translate well in written messages, often leading to unnecessary upset. The students will investigate the importance of grammar in informal messages, including how easily the meaning of a sentence can be changed with inappropriate punctuation. The lesson includes case studies, a match-up task, a video clip with questions, and clear, measurable learning outcomes.

For the Gatsby Careers Guidelines - A careers assembly lasting around 20-25 minutes (including short clip) with a focus on why Careers Education is so important and how students can make the most of all the opportunities presented to them whilst in school. The assembly examines the cases of two fictional ex-students, Alisha and Jack, who didn’t take Careers Education seriously and ended up paying the price for it by adding years on to their lives in the time it took them to eventually find their ideal jobs. The slides in the previews are just a sample and not the whole assembly.
The assembly includes optional interactive elements, a 4 minute clip, a lot of motivational information, questions for students to answer and a little humour.

NEW PSHE lesson all about stereotypes and stereotyping. Students will investigate what these terms mean, how stereotyping can be harmful and why humanity developed the ability to make quick generalisations about groups. Students will investigate the case of Ethel, an old lady who loves her teenage grandchildren, yet can’t help stereotyping teenagers as a potential danger to her when she passes them on the streets. TWO x 1 hour lessons, fully-resourced, detailed and differentiated PSHE (or possibly RE) lessons for Prevent + PSHE 2020-23 guidelines. The lessons cover how easy it is to be tricked into following a cult, rather than a genuine religious organisation.
Students will learn about the differences between cults and religions, what makes a good religious leader and how these qualities differ in cult leaders’ personalities. The lessons see students investigate five different figures from Islam, Christianity, Scientology, Buddhism and Heaven’s Gate. There is also a further focus on Heaven’s Gate as a typical example of a cult.
The lessons include detailed PowerPoints, information, differentiated activities, clips tasks with questions and active task (where you see which students were tricked into a cult and which weren’t). These resources have been designed to be engaging, detailed and easy to follow.

Vaping - what is it and why is it so dangerous?
In this lesson, the students will revisit their previous knowledge of smoking and vaping, as we delve deeper into the issue of underage vaping, its health risks and the wider environmental impact.
The lesson will look at the history of vaping and it’s role in driving down the use of tobacco, before discussing the growing trend of vaping amongst young people.
We will be reminded of our fundamental British values, with respect to the rule of law and democracy as we evaluate the effectiveness of our current laws and create a campaign to lobby the government for stricter regulations.
The lesson is both challenging and mature and has been created with a view to being used with students in Year 6, however, the resources are also suitable for use in LKS3 (Years 7 or 8).
