Emotions and Facial Expressions - Build a face!

(0)
A selection of photographs featuring eyes and mouths in different expressions (happy, angry, scared, sad etc.), and a full page face template for sticking them on. We have found this really useful for teaching children about emotions and when encouraging them to speak about how they are feeling. They can either be used independently as a cutting/sticking activity for children, or laminated and provided within continuous provision to encourage children to show you how they are feeling when they are struggling to articulate it.

The packs include both planning and resources, and as such are ‘ready to go’ - they can be printed out in full and handed to your teachers/TAs for immediate intervention groups. The planning formats are fully editable and feature over 20 separate activities for both phases (over 45 sessions in total).

Number Hunt to 10 - Numeral Recognition Activity

(0)
A Powerpoint presentation that comprises ten different scenes - each with the numbers 1-10 hidden within them. This has proved really successful within my Early Years setting to develop and secure numeral recognition. We often use it as a Maths Starter activity and it has engaged pupils very well. Some scenes are more challenging than others, though it consistently surprises me how much better children are at spotting the numbers than adults! There are lots of different ways of using this resource to ensure appropriate pitch and challenge: We write the numbers 1-10 on our class board and tick them off as we find them in the pictures. Ensuring that we search for the numbers in order has really helped to secure number sense. We ask children to describe where the numbers are, supporting them to use positional language and to develop their speaking and listening skills, e.g. “The number 10 is next to/on top of/underneath the table”. Children can write the numbers on their own whiteboards and work on the activity individually - this way they also get practice of writing the numerals. We provide a checklist for children to tick them off themselves as we search for the numbers together as a whole class, supporting children to ‘match’ the numbers as we develop early number sense. We have often found that children are inspired to go and create their own ‘number hunt’ pictures independently after our Maths sessions, which then provides lots of evidence for our Learning Journeys and ensures that learning is embedded. A 1-20 Number Hunt activity is also available for purchase in my store.

EYFS Reading Records - Individual Tracking Sheet linked to Development Matters

(0)
A one page Reading Record for Reception aged pupils, featuring the ‘Development Matters’ reading statements for 30-50 months, 40-60 months and the Early Learning Goal. There is space for teacher comments and logging the dates and books read each week. In my Reception class we have a reading folder for the whole class. Every child gets one of these sheets either half-termly or termly, to document their progression and to support assessment. Practitioners write comments by the side and date when steps are achieved. Having the Development Matters statements easily to hand helps prompt practitioners to further children’s learning and plan for their ‘next steps’.

One more, one less posters: Number displays to 10. Each poster is on its own A4 page and features a representation of the number in three different ways - on fingers, as Numicon number shapes and as objects - as well as 1 more and 1 less than that number displayed in the same way. There is also a blank poster for children to complete themselves in continuous provision or as a home learning task.

CVC Word Trails - Blending activity for reading intervention (Phase 2)

(0)
A selection of 20 different word cards, designed to support early reading of Phase 2 CVC words. Letters are laid along a ‘trail’, with the full word blended together at the end. We have found these incredibly useful as a phonics intervention activity. We encourage children to use their finger to trace the trail and blend the sounds together as they are reading. They are also great laminated for display, or as a reading activity that children can access independently in the book corner. Words included: tap, sit, pan, pig, mop, cat, map, cot, pen, mug, bag, hat, dog, fox, ten, jam, log, red, van, fish.

Numbers 1 to 5 - Maths Mastery Interactives

(0)
Five separate Powerpoint presentations for the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, delivered in rhyme. Children have the opportunity to: Recognise the numerals in different real-life contexts. Understand the ‘one-ness’ of one; the ‘two-ness’ of two - what do they mean? Interact with the resources, e.g. Put 5 socks on the washing line. Designed to engage young learners through story and rhyme, supporting them to become secure in the basics of mathematics. Consistent with Maths Mastery and White Rose schemes of learning.

These A-Z display posters feature letter formation rhymes and use photo-realistic images for each sound instead of clipart - to support younger pupils, EAL and SEN learners who benefit more from real-life imagery. Each sound is on its own A4 sheet.
