Great for starters and early finishers, this Mental Maths / Arithmetic Upper Key Stage 2 Big Bundle contains 3 resource packs (Year 5 / 6) and 3 Lower KS2 resource packs (Year 4 / 3), great for differentiation in the same class. A total of 30 PowerPoint Speed Tests, 432 Self-Check Cards and 16 Cross Number Puzzles for regular practice throughout the year. The Lower Key Stage 2 resources were originally designed for Y4 (Primary 5 and other equivalents) but would also suit some Y3 (Primary 4) classes too once the concepts have been covered. They could also be used for lower ability students in Upper KS2. The Upper Key Stage 2 resources were originally designed for Y5 and Y6 (Primary 6 and 7 and other equivalents). They could be used as part of SATs preparation. They would also suit some early KS3 classes for consolidation and revision. Concepts include: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Doubling & Halving, Fractions, Percentages, Decimals, Negative Numbers, Place Value, Money, Measure, Time and Angles. As the PowerPoints and Self-Check cards include money questions in UK currency, I have also included versions for countries that use dollars and cents. Differentiation: I have called the Lower KS2 resources Set B, while the Upper is Set A, rather than using any other identifier to help facilitate the use of both sets within the same class without the children being aware of the age level of the questions. All these Mental Numeracy resources are available individually or in smaller Lower KS2 and Upper KS2 bundles: Mental Maths Bundle Year 5 Year 6 Mental Maths Bundle Year 4 / Year 3 The information below applies to both the Lower and Upper KS2 resources, so there’s double what it says: POWERPOINT SPEED TESTS 15 informal tests split across 3 PowerPoints, designed to be shown on the whiteboard with children recording answers in jotters or on paper. One question to a slide will allow children to focus for a few seconds before the next one comes up. The question slides are plain and uncluttered so as to minimise distractions. Run the PowerPoint presentation on a timer or click it on yourself, perhaps allowing a little longer for more challenging questions. Each test features 20 questions involving a variety of mathematical skills and knowledge. At the end of each test, the same 20 slides are repeated, this time with the answer added clearly. Children can then mark their own or a partner’s work to reduce your workload. If short of time, you can whizz through the answers but the idea of each answer appearing with its question like this is that it allows for important discussions about strategies. SELF-CHECK CARDS A flexible resource that can be incorporated into many mental maths games and activities within the classroom, especially oral starters. Laminate and use again and again as starter and early finisher tasks. There are twelve calculations on each A4 sheet. Leave them as 18 A4 sheets or cut each of the question cards separately to create 216 cards. There are versions both with and without the answers printed below the questions. The with-answers versions could be used by pupils questioning each other while the version without the answers could be used by individuals testing themselves. A separate answer card is included, which individuals could consult. CROSSNUMBER PUZZLES A fun resource for early finisher tasks, mental starters, homework etc. They could be completed by individuals or in pairs or small groups, where they will promote important discussions about different mental strategies. As in a crossword puzzle, children will find it easier to work out some of the more challenging questions once they have filled in the easier ones as some digits will already be there for them. ANSWER GRIDS for all 8 puzzles are included within the file and could be printed for pupils to self-check (or displayed later on the board), cutting down on your marking! I hope these save you time and provide great practice to help boost your students’ mental maths agility. I would be grateful for a review if you get a spare moment. Many thanks. Making 100! This is a fun KS2 mental maths starter activity. It’s a complements to 100 Numeracy treasure hunt / scavenger hunt activity - an active printable mental maths team game, with differentiation, ideal as a whole class starter or plenary, originally designed for Year 4 and 5. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of number bonds to 100 calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability pupils in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions for teacher and students is included, along with solutions. I have a collection of these Grab the Answers games, each one focusing on a different maths concept. You can explore my growing bundle below. Students collaborate on a treasure hunt type maths trail and when they’ve collected all 5 answers, they are given a target, which they must make using 3 given numbers. You can print and laminate the cards in batches of 3 sets, so if you don’t require them all, you needn’t print them. The cards should be printed double-sided (they’ve been laid out to facilitate this). I print by selecting the ‘2-Sided Short Edge (Top)’ option. However, if you can only print one-sided, print all the even-numbered pages, replace the paper, and print the odd-numbered pages on the back. Give each team their ‘Start’ card. Spread out all other cards, answer side up. You may wish to remove cards from any set not being used, although this is not necessary. On your signal, teams turn over their Start card and complete the calculation. Each team sends one person to collect the correct answer card, on the other side of which will be their next question and a letter to confirm which team it belongs to. Ensure teams immediately replace any cards not marked with their letter. The process continues until the team have answered all five calculations. On the other side of the final answer card will be a target number, which teams must make, using the numbers printed in boxes in the bottom right corner of 3 of their cards. Use all 3 numbers and only once each, using any of the 4 operations. The first to make their target number wins! One possible answer for each of the target challenges is printed on the solution cards. Please visit my store for many fun, time-saving maths activities: FullShelf Resources

Key Stage 1 (KS1) Year 1 and Year 2 (Y1 / Y2) add and subtract multiples of 10 / tens numbers activities. These printable mental maths activities, are great for starters, warm ups, early finishers, independent work, home learning etc. Includes 36 self-check write and wipe trail cards to be laminated for pupils to complete with wipeable pens. A preview file is included to show how the write and wipe trail cards work. These cards could also be used in KS2 with learners who require consolidation. In Scotland, use for First Level Maths, Primary 2 and 3.   WRITE AND WIPE CARDS Each card contains 14 mental maths adding and subtracting calculations - over 500 calculations across the whole set. ALL ANSWERS INCLUDED. They can be used by individuals or you could have pairs or small groups racing against each other to complete trails accurately. It promotes speed and accuracy and is a more engaging alternative to worksheets. Starting at the dog and working their way around the card in a spiral, children write the answer to each calculation in the box, creating a running total. The final answer is printed next to the bone in the middle of the card so they can see if they have correctly completed it. If not, children can check to see where they have gone wrong. Answer cards can be used by the pupils themselves or by the teacher to see at a glance where pupils have gone wrong. Key Stage 2 (KS2) area printable activities - fun, strategic games of Four in a Row for consolidation and revision of area of rectangles, squares, right-angled triangles and compound / composite shapes. Differentiated 3 ways. Originally designed for Y5 and Y6 but it might suit some older groups (KS3) too. In Scotland, use for Second Level Maths, Primary 6 and 7. The boards were originally designed to be printed in A3 and I recommend this so that children have sufficient space to record the area of each 2D shape. Taking turns to go, children use a different coloured whiteboard pen to write the area of a shape in the appropriate box on the grid. If using the same colour as their opponent, they could add their initial to the box. When someone achieves 4 in a row, answers could be checked using the ANSWER GRIDS, or by using a calculator. 1-star version - area of rectangles, squares and right-angled triangles. No conversion required. 2-star - area of rectangles, squares and right-angled triangles. More challenging calculations. Some conversion required between centimetres, metres etc. Includes decimal lengths and breadths. 3-star - area of rectangles, squares, right-angled triangles and compound / composite shapes. Some conversion required. Includes decimal lengths and breadths and more challenging calculations. Some of the compound shapes require children to work out the length of a side, using other given sides, before they can work out the area. Children will be able to do some of the calculations mentally but could work out more challenging ones before writing in the answer on the grid. Identifying, estimating, and measuring angles activities for Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2): 36 cards for a variety of fun, self-directed practical activities and games to consolidate naming (identifying / classifying) , estimating, measuring and drawing angles (acute, right, obtuse, straight and reflex). Originally designed for a mixed ability Y5 (Primary 6 in Scotland) but could be used for Y6 (Primary 7) for revision or differentiation. Answer Card (angle type and measurement) and Pupil Instruction Cards for all activities included. There’s Teaching Notes with further explanations and learning intentions. To consolidate or review understanding of angle types, Snap can be played, pupils calling ‘Acute!’ or ‘Reflex!’ etc as appropriate instead of ‘Snap!’ Alternatively, print out the Angle Type name cards included in the pack and play a game of Which Angle?. More able learners can combine their estimation of angle size with mental addition in the 2 Estimation Challenges. Of course they can just be used for practising estimating angle size and then calculating the degrees using a protractor. Also included is an instruction card for angle drawing challenges that don’t involve any cards. Finally, there’s a set of 20 acute, obtuse or right angles for younger or lower ability pupils to do a sorting activity Acute, Obtuse or Right? They’re smaller as they don’t need to be measured. There’s an answer card for this set too so pupils can check angle names. I hope your class enjoy investigating angles with these resources. The final answer is printed next to the cheese in the middle of the card so they can see if they have correctly completed it. If not, children can check to see where they have gone wrong. Answer cards can be used by the pupils themselves or by the teacher to see at a glance where pupils have gone wrong. Print and laminate if required.   You might be interested in the other versions of these resources, to practise different aspects of adding and subtracting. Scale Drawings / Scale Factors

(1)
KS2 (Year 5 / Year 6 - Y5 and Y6) Scale Drawings Maths Game: An engaging and differentiated game to consolidate understanding of scale drawing / scale factors in a fun way. It’s also an enjoyable way of practising times tables (if using the standard version) or decimal multiplication (if using the Challenge version). The children act as engineers, working their way around the board using scale drawings (24 cards included) and throwing a counter onto a target to discover which scale - in ratio notation - to apply each time, once they have made a measurement of the drawing. Teaching Notes and Pupil Instruction Card included. Differentiation: Alongside the standard version there’s a Challenge Version for older/more able learners that requires pupils to deal with decimal lengths (a second set of 24 cards included) and to convert between cm, m and km, using a separate scale target board when scaling up. I recommend blowing the gameboards up to A3 for use with bigger groups although A4 would be fine. I suggest printing the cards on different coloured paper to help keep sets separate, especially if using both versions with different groups. The Scale Target boards are colourful so black and white versions are included should you prefer. I hope your pupils enjoy playing it. If you can spare a moment I would be grateful for a review. Many thanks. Build number sense with this KS2 Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 maths BUNDLE of fun printable games and puzzles worksheets for rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000, whole number, 1 decimal place, 2 decimal places and estimating the sum or difference by rounding to ten. All in PDF format. Includes: 17 fun, challenging and strategic estimation and rounding games 7 hidden word puzzles Great for starters, early finishers, revision or as fun homework tasks   ROUNDING GAMES: These dice games make students think carefully about where to place digits in order to make each statement on the board correct. As children are allowed to place the digits they roll (or spin) in any row on their side of the board, they will begin to generate tactics and the uncertainty will be prolonged until the final moments! Many levels of challenge - ideal for differentiation or for use across year groups: includes multiple games for each of rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, whole number, one decimal place, two decimal places, estimating the sum or difference and one for rounding to the nearest ten thousand Use as printed worksheets or else laminate (or use in dry-wipe sleeves) and complete with whiteboard pens Instead of playing in pairs, you might form small groups - pairs could play against pairs instead of one-versus-one and you might appoint a checker who can adjudicate (and then swap roles for the next game). Consider enlarging to A3 for larger groups Instructions are printed on the board   If you don’t have a 0-9 dice: Use 0-9 spinners (I have included black and white and colour templates for your convenience) if you wish to make some Use digit cards (basic digit cards included in the file) Use a pack of playing cards (use Aces as 1 and Jacks as 0, put aside the Kings and Queens; shuffle the pack and take one card in turn)   ROUNDING HIDDEN WORD PUZZLES: 1 for rounding to the nearest ten 1 for rounding to the nearest hundred 1 for rounding to the nearest thousand 1 for rounding to the nearest whole number 1 for rounding to the nearest one decimal place 1 for rounding to the nearest two decimal places 1 for rounding money to the nearest pound (dollar version also included)   More about hidden word puzzles: Similar to codebreaker puzzles, with a maths-related word to be revealed after the rounding work. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a number to be rounded and a letter. Once students have rounded all the numbers, they cross out any boxes containing numbers that round to certain specified target numbers. Then they put together the letters from the remaining boxes to reveal a maths word. If the word is more simple, the letters are in random order for students to reassemble. If it is a trickier word (such as a famous mathematician), the letters are already placed in the correct order in the grid. There is a further challenge question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the hidden word.   For previews and more information, please see the 2 individual resource pages.   Thank you very much for supporting my store.   YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE… Maths Puzzles Worksheets HUGE BUNDLE Place Value CrossNumber Puzzles Area and Perimeter Activities BUNDLE   Explore more at FullShelf Resources

KS2 Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 maths BUNDLE of printable games and puzzles worksheets for place value. Build number sense with fun activities. The dice games features 4, 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers (thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions) and decimals to 1, 2 and 3 places (tenths, hundredths, thousandths). The puzzles feature 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers. Great for starters, early finisher tasks, extension challenges and homework. All in PDF format. Includes: 17 fun, challenging and strategic games 7 hidden word puzzles Great for differentiation within the same class or for different year groups   PLACE VALUE GAMES: Use as printed worksheets or else laminate (or use in dry-wipe sleeves) and complete with whiteboard pens Instead of playing in pairs, you might form small groups - pairs could play against pairs instead of one-versus-one and you might appoint a checker who can adjudicate (and then swap roles for the next game). Consider enlarging to A3 for larger groups. There is a mixture of Make the Biggest Number, Make the Smallest Number and Greater or Less Than games   Every turn, players can place the digit they throw on any row or column, until there are no vacant boxes remaining, prolonging the uncertainty! Keeping an eye on each other’s numbers as they form, players will begin to spot new tactics; for instance they might notice that a 1 placed in a thousands place might not be so costly if there’s a 9 in the ten thousands place, depending on what their opponent is doing on their grid. They can also practise saying their completed numbers aloud at the end.   If you don’t have a 0-9 dice, the games still work with a 1-6 dice. Alternatively: Use 0-9 spinners (I have included black and white and colour templates for your convenience) if you wish to make some Use digit cards (basic digit cards included in the file) Use a pack of playing cards (use Aces as 1 and Jacks as 0, put aside the Kings and Queens; shuffle the pack and take one card in turn)   Instructions are printed on the boards.   PLACE VALUE CROSS NUMBER PUZZLES: 2 for numbers up to ten thousands 2 for numbers up to hundred thousands 2 for numbers up to millions Differentiation: For each of 5, 6 and 7-digit numbers the first puzzle is for practising reading the word version and writing the digit version in the grid, while the second, more challenging puzzle for each involves adding and subtracting from large numbers (increase by 1000, take away five hundred thousand etc) Works in a similar way to a crossword puzzles but with numbers entered into the grid   Thank you very much for supporting my store.   YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE… Multiplication and Division Activities BUNDLE Maths Puzzles Worksheets HUGE BUNDLE Place Value CrossNumber Puzzles Decimal Activities KS2 BUNDLE Area and Perimeter Activities BUNDLE   Explore more at FullShelf Resources
