3-5 lessons which revise the Beethoven set work-Sonata in C minor.
Lesson 1 focuses on the key features of the movement and categorises the musical elements into the main features of the piece e.g. piano and sonata form. The lessons is differentiated with success criteria and has answers included. This also focuses on the main musical elements and how you would describe them in an essay. This would take more than 1 hour long lesson.
Lesson 2-3 focuses on the extended answer for Question 9 in the exam by picking out the main features for all the musical elements and trying to explain them to ensure AO4 is achieved in the answer. Lesson 3 also focuses on wider listening and uses 3 example piece from different time periods (sheet music provided).
There is also a document with a summary of the Beethoven movement on just over 2 sides of A4 with the main features students need to know for the exam (this is in prose). There are 20 differentiated questions where answers can be found in the text. Ideal for revision lesson, homework or a cover lesson. Answer are provided.

Differentiated resources which aid students in developing the rhythm of an original idea. This was originally used over 3 lessons with a sixth form class but could also be used with GCSE students.
Students must firstly define rhythmic development methods (definitions provided). They must then identify how this looks by using musical examples.
The gold task then asks students to apply at least one method to their own composition.
All worksheets are in word so they can be further adapted in order to differentiate for your students.
Students look at the 40 images and try to work out which quotation each image is referring to. This is great for quotation revision because students often come up with lots of different suggestions for each image.
The answer sheet is included too.
I use this as an end of term activity and invite students to colour in the images to help them remember each image.
Also includes a second activity with 100 key quotations all missing a key word that needs to be added.

This sheet contains information so students can annotate over 90 key quotations from the text.
It should be noted that this was created for a fairly low ability class to help students who had missed a significant number of lessons to catch up. The annotations are not perceptive enough for students aiming for grades 7-9. They will nevertheless still offer a solid grounding for higher ability students to then explore the quotations further.
The resource tells them the page number of each key quote so students must practise their scanning skills to find the quotation to highlight. Then students write the brief note beside each quotation to explain why it is important.
The page numbers correspond to the Heinemann edition. Check the preview to ensure the page numbers correspond to the copy of the text you are using in class.

A grade 9 response to the AQA May 2017 power and conflict question in which Bayonet Charge was the named poem.
This response was completed in 45 minutes so replicates the amount of writing expected within the time frame of the examination.
In other grade 9 power and conflict responses on Tes I wrote comparative-style paragraphs.
For this essay I used a different method. In the first half of the essay I focused solely on the named poem Bayonet Charge and then referred back to Bayonet Charge in the second half of the response when analysing Remains.
Both methods are effective.
This resource can also be purchased as part of the bundle of multiple grade 9 power and conflict comparative responses:

A grade 9 critical and exploratory response to an exam-style generic question about how Romeo and Juliet’s relationship develops during the play.
Also contains a response adapted for a question on Romeo’s feelings for Juliet.
I have included the extract and a brief examiner commentary to help explain why the response would achieve grade 9.
The response is 662 words along which is about the average length of a grade 9 essay in 45 minutes of exam conditions.
Also available as part of a group of model responses:
https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/romeo-and-juliet-grade-9-grade-8-and-grade-7-model-responses-to-aqa-gcse-questions-11580421

Silver: Work out which themes each quotation links to.
Gold: Identify language features within each quote.
Diamond: Link each quotation to context.
