A range of high grade Macbeth exam responses. All responses were written to reflect the ability of grade 8/9 students working under timed conditions. Marking is subjective but as an experienced examiner, I am confident all of these responses would, in my opinion, fit into the top band because all 6 contain thorough (and at times perceptive) debate with the nuances of the question supported by thorough and at times perceptive analysis of methods and wider ideas supported by fine-grained analysis of judicious quotations.

A revision grid contains notes for all 15 poems on the themes of power, conflict as well as notes structure and context. The activity asks students to engage with the revision grid in order to look for discriminating comparisons. After finding a pair, students write comparative sentences. Another way of using this revision sheet is to colour code the poems that go well together.

This 44 page PowerPoint collates my carefully selected annotations for each poem onto one 44 page powerpoint. The annotations are animated to appear on the mouse click so you can go over them one by one. Essential to help with the closed book poetry exam, this revision sheet contains 5 key quotations from each poem in the Power and Conflict section of the anthology. It asks students to make notes on the significance of each quotation. Also includes an answer sheet for teachers with some notes about why I selected each quotation. Also includes an audio/video recording of the answers. Also includes a blank grid for students who want to select their own 5 quotations to memorise for the closed book examination. Students must write a brief note to explain why each note is important. It is a useful exercise for making students revise their annotations.

Resources for 2 lessons or 1 lesson and a homework based on music for ensemble (jazz and blues). Students must define terminology associated with jazz and blues and then categorise this onto a summary sheet (answers on the pp). There are also 3 listening questions with answers with you tube links on the pp. One of these is based on the longer answer format and firstly ask students to make notes on each section (a hint sheet is available) and then put this into continuous prose to be marked according to a SAMS mark scheme. Differentiated tasks are including for all stages of the lesson.
