This uses a cinema booking page and a TV show review. The former being aimed at L1 and the latter, L2.
It guides through determining purpose & tone, via the use of sentence types and purposes - as well as revisiting persuasive features, previously explained.
There are a multitude of animations which demonstrate and explain how Document 1’s purpose can be determined. After guidance, all students are encouraged to have a go at Document 2. L1 students may need support with that one and there are slides with quotations selected to get them started.
Finish off with an email creati a set of relayed instructions to a friend, from Document 1 - after a bit of vocabulary replacement research.
This session covers reading nonfictional texts for both Purpose & Audience. It has a few formative tasks, some of which are marco-enabled slides which can be moved during the slideshow. See slide notes for brief intructions. Intended for Online delivery but would be great in a classroom on a touch screen.
Carefully animated with step-by-step revelations to aid delivery and questioning. There is a single hand out A4 page with text boxes for Online use or it could be printed and written into. Sometimes my students will photograph their work or scan it.
Session plan included.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! =-)

Adventure through the Solar System with this engaging, visually impressive and unique Functional Skills English session!
Practise exam-style reading questions, based on the new spec C&G exam papers and then flow straight into using these original and author-created documents to inspire and guide through article writing.
Differentiate with word count and let L1 learners have a little go of comprehension+ for L2…I also changed the audience aim of the writing to fit with vocational areas like children for childcare students and so on…
This was designed to help prepare upon return from lockdown. We have a number of students, however, whom might be sitting online exams at home. So with this in mind, this 6 week pack includes:
A pair of Reading Initial Assessments (Hair & Beauty/Engineering)
A 30 page Crash Course Workbook
A 60 slide Powerpoint Presentation
There are a number of fun and interesting tasks which can be taught with the presentation. PPT is fully animated with most answers and so this could even be sent out to parents to home school and help their children plan.
This lovely looking ppt and handout set is best used with a bolt load of free brochures from The Brochure Bank online. Order as many as you need and they are delivered within 48 hours - free!
Practise writing skills, using language features, taking notes from videos and writing persuasive and informative postcards.
This leads nicely into Report writing - simply get my session or create one to follow removing the persuasive elements. This lesson is also good because some of the new C&G writing questions are mixing purposes.
Break up the monotony of formal writing with some solid examples of informal approaches. This session has links to a multitude of upcoming movie trailers - simply click on each mini image, on the slide, in turn, and close each screen once they have finished.
There are a number to choose from so that you can extend the session in a number of ways. I have mixed classes so I chose trailers for a number of different audiences.
the hand out was designed by a colleague of mine and has 3 boxes which can be copied and pasted onto a second page in word, should you wish you use the lot of them. -
A second session is also included for free, which logically follows on to review writing.
Hope it is helpful! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. =-)
This double session is intended for 3 hours but could be extended over a few sessions and contains 40 slides & an 8 page hand out. It is meant to follow my Language Features intro’ session and then features the main acronym running through all my resources.
Effectively, students create a language guide to carry forward through the year, or for revision at home.
Explore both fictional and nonfictional features of language -
Word Classes
Sentence Forms & Purposes

Repeating Letters

Persuasive;
Informative &
Explanatory Features
This is quite detailed and is essentially 2-3 sessions in one. It is littered with task boxes and guided annotations via step-by-step/click-by-click animations. There are two main ways for delivery, either teacher-led or student-led.
Teacher-led, requires a prescriptive approach: providing the annotations and answers upfront. This can get quite monotonous but splitting it up will be necessary. Approaching this way, would be an introductory approach.
Student-led requires the opposite: holding back the answers and annotations and letting students find them, either independently or together, before providing any answers.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! =-)
These can be used as starters, bridges, or as part of formative assessment. They can be pasted into other marco-enabled files and they can be sent to students as a slide show which can be completed, saved and returned for assessment.
The text boxes can be moved in the live slideshow, just use the ‘Duplicate’ function and not the ‘Extend’ and they work really well on a touch screen, as well as with a mouse.
Students enjoy them because they can take responsibility, both On and Offline.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! =-)
This Entry 3 session is fully animated and includes an interactive pairs slide, and some fun activities like crafting an origami box…this I did as a group and had to practise the night before! It’s great to challenge students and encourage some team work.
There are formative activities throughout and a Terry Practchett page extract to highlight word classes, on a two-sided A4 hand out.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! =-)

Add the images to your own docs by copying and pasting them. Challenge groups with larger pages or just use as extension tasks. Answers are on separate slides so it can be delivered easily in a class.
A4 & A3 PDFs are also included.
Distribute On or Offline as a starter or extension task. These words can be very confusing, so the more you know - the better your accuracy will be!
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! =-)
