Hi there,
Here's some of this week's planning for play scripts. It's an often forgotten text type, but is helpful for many reasons.
I used this blank iphone template for children to separate who is saying what in a piece of text in order to prep them for writing a play script this week. I hope it works for you!

JK Rowling has published her new children’s book, The Ickabog, online for everybody to enjoy whilst at home. She is also hosting an illustration competition for children to design her characters and setting- the winners will be published with the book in November 2020! Links to this competition and how to enter are included in the ‘introduction’ pages.
With each project file, you will receive:

Editable .docx Word document version of the project

Chapter 1 Project:
With 4 jam-packed tasks (each with multiple activities), children will work through the first chapter: drawing the main characters & settings, designing the famous Cornucopia pastries, finding definitions for tricky words and creating a fantasy map for the country.
Chapter 2 Project
5 tasks, made to be set daily, see children work through the second chapter of The Ickabog by JK Rowling: recapping what happened in the first chapter (setting, character, plot), making predictions for the future, identifying nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs in context.
Chapter 3 & 4 Project
Set across 5 tasks, children work through the 3rd and 4th chapters and are introduced to five key reading skills: inference, summary, questioning, comprehension and synthesis. Each task dives deep into each skill allowing children to access the text on a continually higher level.
Chapter 5 & 6 Project
Set across another 5, jam-packed tasks, children dive deep into understanding, recognizing and using apostrophes for both contraction and possession whilst working through chapters 5 & 6. The activities include conversion tables, spotting apostrophe errors in Chouxville shop signs and placing apostrophes before or after the ‘s’ depending on singular or plural possession.

Writing prompt/stimulus based on finding a mysterious book. Teaching PowerPoint and 4-way differentiated planning sheets included in this 22-Page pack.
Assessing writing is a subjective nightmare! With this independent writing assessment stimulus, children can engage in an exciting and mysterious plot centered around a magical book found in the school library. As teachers, we can decide which planning sheet most accurately matches the children’s abilities or targets and the writing they produce can be assessed against national or state standards.
With Talk for Writing opportunities throughout the PowerPoint, children can discuss their use of vocabulary, ideas for plot and explore their characters’ emotions in peer work or small groups.
This can be delivered to a single class, year group or whole-school cohort, or even as an extra-curricular Creative Writing club task!
Included in this download:
18-page teaching PowerPoint
4 different planning sheet options in PDF format
5 fonts for editing purposes
Editable versions of PPT and worksheets to suit your classes’ needs!
Looking for more writing prompts? Look no further (:

Teaching tenses can be frustrating for many reasons- we were never taught grammar to this extent before, making resources can be tedious and it can be difficult to make them entertaining!
For that reason, and to help out other teachers who are DONE making tenses worksheets time and time again, I thought I’d upload the unit I created and teach with year in and year out!

Differentiated worksheets for children to present artist research, opinion & analysis along with a page for attempting to recreate and replicate the artist’s style.
Sometimes, the way children present their research findings in art isn’t up to scratch with their practical work. This resource gives children the opportunity to show their findings neatly (with sentence starters, word banks and prompts to help guide their writing) and give opinions on the artists’ work.
This resource is re-usable as it’s not artist-specific and gender-neutral pronouns are used. The second version of the artist research page is scaffolded for lower-ability writers.
Included in this download:
3-page PDF for demonstrating knowledge on artists
Word .docx versions of the pages so you can tailor the sheets to your students’ needs
Lost in Chalk font for editing your resources in keeping with the current style
Hand drawn page borders that can be used on other classroom materials (not for commercial use)
Hand-drawn paint tube clip art that can be used on other classroom materials (not for commercial use)
I hope this resource saves you time and stress!
Happy teaching,
